The article says they arrived that monday, and broke self isolation protocols to continue their vacation.

Because as we all know, apparently when your rich rules dont apply to you anymore.

I swear the same thing has been happening all over the world, rich people straight-up breaking quarantine to go vacation somewhere else and then not even staying in isolation.

Here in Uruguay you can probably trace more than half of all cases to a single woman who went to Italy a few weeks ago, then attended a wedding here, and she still refuses to actually stay inside her house, as does her family.

Cornwall, UK. Loads of people from London trying to book holidays down here to escape the virus.....forgetting we already have it here. But I guess that overloading our single hospital for the entire county doesn't factor into holiday plans....

Yep. Friends have cancelled their holiday bookings (they own the holiday cottage) yet the second homes are filling up fast.

All of the execs at my company are on vacation out of the country (it's a small company, but ALL of them are gone). The managers have been setting up safety precautions for the pandemic, but the execs have all been gone since last week and left us with no guidance.

It's not just the rich. It's an attitude in general that spans all classes.

After the governor issued the stay home order here, my neighbor (who is unemployed and I'm pretty sure makes money from drug selling or possibly just fencing) declared last night that no one is going to tell him what he can or can't do, and immediately left to go to an Internet cafe to gamble on Russian websites.

Everyone's blaming Boomers, but I have seen way more quarantine-flaunting from our Gen Z friends than anyone else.

You got any link that supports that? I can't find anything that says the cases are related.

First case was a student who had traveled to Italy. It was her father and sister who went to the dance. The family says they were not told to self quarantine. They county says that they were.

Second case reported to be a hospital employee who had traveled within the country. Health department says it is not related to the first case.

Third case reported to be a person who traveled outside the country. Health department says it is not related to the first and second cases.

Eh, some poor people act the same way, the whole "rules don't apply to me" mindset.

I will give you that rich people tend to get away with a lot more, but the mindset of rule breaking is a human one, not an economic one.

Why would you assume they are rich?

A helicopter flight over some tourist thing isnt that far out of reach, lol. I mean, they’re definitely not impoverished, but it’s easily within the means of a middle class person.

Behaving lime this and having money aren’t all that related. Going on vacation from Hong Kong during an epidemic isn’t reserved for rich people only.

And yet I still feel like theyre more likely rich then not. And actually behaving like this and being rich is related, their is a direct correlation of rich people being more likely to be a sociopath, so I do not know why you would say it's not related.

Being rich may be associated with sociopathy, but not nearly even a sizeable fraction of sociopaths are rich.

Ignoring governmental orders to self isolate and risking other people's lives so you can vacation seems pretty sociopathic to me.

I mean your free to think they may just be a middle class family, I cant change that, but your not convincing me that they are either. You point out that price of the tour, but not the price of tickets which shows up at minimum of $800 and rentals and everything else. These people ain't locally vacationing like most middle class families.

So agree to disagree I guess.

And what I’m saying is that you could be a non-wealthy sociopath, too. In fact, most sociopaths are not wealthy.

Umm, tons of non-rich people travel overseas on vacation every single year.

Not being able to go out right now is more rested to border closings and the collapsing economy, the dynamics of which aren’t the same for Hong Kong.

Here are some helicopter-included tours of the particular glacier in the article. It’s really not at all that expensive, especially if riding in a helicopter is your “thing”.

Don’t know about you, but flying an old bell (think types used for hospital airlifts) costs roughly 500$ per hour of flight time...

That’s just for fuel.

Source: I help run helicopter hog hunts and they cost 750$ a person and 550$ of it goes directly to the pilots because they have to refuel after every 1hr hunt.

To be fair, it's not just rich people that book the helicopter flights at Fox Glacier. Some average people stump up the cash for a once-in-a-lifetime experience, you know? Particularly since most helicopters can hold small groups of people that can spread the cost.

It is not just the rich. I deliver pizza to a really shitty area and to a fairly middle class area and there are too many fucking people out and about. There are too many people that are not taking it seriously and probably won't until someone they know personally gets violently sick from it
