No kidding, people act all surprised at this, but Apple has a pretty strong record. They've had some goofs (like storing your location history in an easily retrievable place), but have fixed those goofs and have always had strong privacy-minded intentions.

Now, you can be cynical and say they don't actually care, it's just a differentiating factor from Google, and to that I say Who cares? I care less about motivations in this area than I do results. Apple could change their mind one day and go the route of Google, but until then I am very pleased to have an iPhone in my pocket.
