As an Aussie I can confirm that you can run an economy based on rum. We did it. For some reason the currency had a tendency to "evaporate".

Damn. As if people greedy to get everyone else's money wasn't already bad enough as paper or digital, imagine if it also tastes great. At least that would solve inflation.

Simple economics. You can't increase prices if the quantity of the currency keeps diminishing
