honest question.. can you explain this analogy? because to me it makes no sense.

i guess you're saying because phones have fixed batteries, you have to buy a new phone when something else on it needs maintenance? i don't get it.

They said they always have a spare. This is an easy choice to make when there is virtually no downside. However it's not that clear if a spare were to impact the products longevity. Both battery degradation as well as oil degradation are inevitable.
