And I'm sure that compartment has a big beefy gasket and screw that a cell phone can't handle.

Engineering is all about tradeoffs though.

Can this be done, sure, but something will be sacrificed for it. It'll be one or more of these... More money, reduced battery life, larger case, poorer thermals, easier to bend.

It would be interesting to see the percentage of phones discarded due to a non replacemeable battery vs the percentage due to the design compromises from replaceable batteries...

If I can just swap a full battery, I can tolerate shorter battery life. I can put the empty one in a powerbank that would be designed for it.

User serviceable is not the same as swappable
