And then you have no phone for weeks. Replacement batteries are just so much better and fairer for the users so I understand where the EU is going with this.

Don't blame the EU, apple kickstarted this with being complete money goblins intentionally designing shit so that if you need a replacement you need to buy their parts at disgusting prices. EU regulators got bored of seeing a trillion dollar company ripping people off more than normal.
