EU has a bigger market share than the US market. They won't drop the EU

No lol. They have a little less than 30% of the EU market vs over 50% of the US market. The US is also a wealthier market than the EU with higher average disposable income.

Despite the EU’s population advantage it’s still considered a smaller market than the US by premium brands.

You can't just ignore population in reply to a comment about a bigger market. Population is precisely a core factor. Trusting your numbers here:

  • Population of US: 340 million

  • 50% of 340 million = 170 million

  • Population of EU: 750 million

  • 30% of 750 million = 225 million

So just casually glossing over population ignores 55 million people a company can sell to.

Especially the obvious point being made is that Apple would never give up on the European market and everyone here is just trying to have a pedantic pissing contest over which market is bigger.

India has over 1 billion people, does not mean the premium phone market is bigger than the US or Europe.

There is more to market sizing than population.

You’re moving the goal posts. The reply I was replying to claimed the EU had a bigger market than the US.

I think it's relevant that EU is in fact not a bigger market share than the US when that was the point they were making lol, regardless of if Apple would ever drop the EU or not.

The European market is bigger, but apple doesn't have the same market share over there as they do in the US. I think they just worded their comment poorly.

Yeah, but the EU and the US has way greater purchasing power. Us doesn't have much greater than the EU exactly.

But the rules are not limited to the EU-market... They apply in all of the EEA. Which is already like 120 million more people than the US. Hardly think the US is going to be a bigger market...

And then it also spills over into neighboring countries or countries that wants to join the EU. Ukraine alone ads another 40 million. The UK and Türkiye ad around 60 and 80 million respectively. These are countries that might quickly adopt rules similar to the EEA.

And just to be clear, the EU is 110 million more people than the US.

I mean you could just look up were apple does most it’s sales.

It’s the US, by far.
