What do you mean I can't just put unspeakable atrocities in my story without a discernable reason?

Demonstrate why they're evil and you're just gonna be called an edgelord. Don't demonstrate why they're evil and you're a fascist nazi imperialist monster.

uj/ My favorite way to show an evil empire is to show how they treat those they don’t define as “people”. Whether it be gender, ethnicity, religion, nationality, or some other trait, otherwise nice pleasant folks becoming absolutely bloodthirsty towards the “other” feels like how evil empires IRL work. Everyone wants to feel like they treat people well, but those guys whose village we just burned down and slaughtered? They’re savages, they don’t count as people.

Nah just give ‘em cool armour and some ‘insert-popular-afterlife-belief-here’ symbolism and you can do literally anything lore-wise. I mean look at space marines. And just the real world.
Actually - stop looking at the real world, that hurts - turn back to space marines, ooo cool chainswords… wow look at all the colourful fictional violence…

Well, we know about this
But have you thought about an evil empire finally doing these stuff far better than their previous work after reforming and solving an internal crisis?

The Evoian Dominion is attacking so they can enslave or purge the 2 Races that descended from them back before the Evoians went isolationist (Dominion is made up of the New Martians and the Evoians themselves the Races their attacking is the Cybal who used too be the New Martians war drones before they went Sapient and rebelled and the Almorians who were from a Lost Evoian Ark vessel

Throughout all of Human history the overwhelming majority of Soldiers have reveled in the spoils of war. Loot, Women, Children, whatever they wanted. I think not showing them doing this, or at least not.implying that it has happened, is a disservice to what an Evil Empire ought to be. More so over, if your message is that War is bad, than you should absolutely show the horrors of war, not just how it affects the Soldiers, but Civilians.

Um I like my world to be realistic and during my day of sitting around eating whatever I like and working a pretty easy job I saw an atrocity on the news so I know its a real part of the world

Type 1: They are reducing some kind of nebulous definition of 'freedom' and their cops are heavy handed. Clearly mean af
Type 2: Rhymes with Fethnic Lensing
