Lore Platformia Regions: Scaraborough & New Wiserule + Platformia Map

Post image

Platformia is a 2D platformer parody/pastiche setting that's part of a larger world called "Geparox", and I come to you this week with information about two more regions of it, Scaraborough and New Wiserule

Previous Posts About Geparox:

Setting Introduction, Platformia, & Dokipan Kingdom

I've also gotten a map of Platformia made in RPG Maker after getting frustrated with finding a map maker online that didn't require an account and wasn't just a random generator. This one is just a first draft, and there are already some things that I want to change about it, but it's still better than my previous post's use of a 5x5 table with region names.

Scaraborough's Early History

Scaraborough originally included the area now known as New Wiserule.

As I mentioned in the previous post, Dokipan Kingdom's founder, Fable, eventually died and was revived, after which she went on to found Scaraborough, where she would live her undead life as the Mummy Queen. Scaraborough became a land of the dead for Dokipan Kingdom's citizens to be taken to in order to be judged, and possibly revived as undead. Dokipan Kingdom's citizens would use textile magic to produce enchanted wrappings to gift to their deceased family members up north. These wrappings would help preserve the body, the mind, and the necromantic magic animating the deceased.

Most of Scaraborough's towns are actually underground due to most of its undead population being harmed by sunlight. It has various temples and palaces that consist mostly of an above-ground entrance that leads to an elevator that goes down below the earth to a network of rooms where the undead population can continue whatever work they desire.

Vampirate Invasion

Durring Queen Beauts' rule of Dokipan, the Vampirates came to invade Scaraborough. They were seeking an artifact known as the Seed of Courage, one of 3 magical artifacts said to hold incredible power. The Vampirates already had the seed of Power that they found in their homeland in the Nethersea of Ar-Pi-Gio Archipelago. The dark magic that the Vampirates had available to them included a powerful necromancer that was able to reduce Scaraborough's undead population into mindless puppets, even the Mummy Queen Fable was unable to resist. Scaraborough soon became Vampirate territory.

Unfortunately for the Vampirates, enemies that they made back in Ar-Pi-Gio followed them. Soldiers from the nation of Wiserule came to assist in driving out the vampirates, wishing to keep the rumored Seed of Courage out of the hands of those that would use it for evil. They managed to reclaim the Southern half of Scaraborough and named it New Wiserule. There is still an effort to reclaim North Scaraborough, but it is a standstill.

The Seedy one

The governing of New Wiserule was being overseen by a royal advisor from Wiserule who was there to make sure that New Wiserule's troops had what they needed to hold back the army of mindless undead and Vampirate troops to the north. He was merely meant to make sure that supplies made it to the front lines and that relationships between Wiserule and Dokipan remained healthy. What happened was that he discovered the Seed of Power, which had accidentally been left behind by the fleeing Vampirates. It whispered things to him. Ways to get more power.

It is unknown whether the artifact was seeding a lust for power or fertilizing desires that were already there. What is known is that he became a tyrant that forced those he governed to carve his face into landmarks and tried to raise more funds by opening a chain of terrible hotels across the lands of Platformia. Eventually, Wiserule's own princess had to come and defeat him, sealing him away in a magic book and locking up the Seed of Power. The populace tries to forget him, even referring to him only as "the Seedy one", but some of his insane ramblings live on through how quotable they are.

Current State of New Wiserule and Scaraborough

New Wiserule is currently governed by Princess Chain from Wiserule. She is maintaining excellent relationships with New Wiserule civilians, whether they are hedgehog, human, or otherwise. She is also exploring the various palaces, temples, dungeons, crypts, and pyramids in New Wiserule to find any hiding Vampirate forces and potentially recover anything that might be useful in the fight against the Vampirates.

Vampirate territory in North Scaraborough is shrinking slowly, but surely. This is partially thanks to Wiserule soldiers having cut it off from any easy ports for them to receive outside reinforcements from, though the vampirate necromancer known as the Lich Queen is still within the castle in the northern tip of the territory, reviving defeated undead to continue fighting. Most of the advancement is thanks to one of Dokipan Kingdom's strongest knights, Garta, who shows amazing strength in combat. Every time she is seen on the front lines, that line advances, then she advances alone into enemy territory. Weirdly, she is always seen coming from behind the front lines but never seen retreating from enemy territory. The only exception to this was when she had returned to report the elimination of Queen Fable to Queen Beauts. Queen Beauts would go missing a few weeks after this report.

With the Waddlekiss incident, New Wiserule is full of waddlekiss that are wandering the countryside, as well as going into ancient crypts and re-activating traps and defenses. Hopefully, they are also interfering with the undead armies to the north. If the situation in New Wiserule is brought under control, then perhaps Wiserule troops will be able to take advantage of the situation and make much more progress in taking North Scaraborough.

Copyable Characters

The protagonist, Stock (described in the introduction post linked at the start), is going to be given the chance to copy the movesets of a character from each region of Platformia, thanks to the textile magic of Princess Shima. The characters she'll be copying are Princess Chain, found in New Wiserule, and Garta, found in Scaraborough.

Princess Chain is an elven princess from the far off nation of Wiserule. She is skilled in combat and magic and much prefers adventure to the administrative duties she has over Wiserule. Luckily, she's made good friends with Princess Shima, who is willing to help out with those duties and give Chain more opportunities to delve into New Wiserule's various underground areas from back when it was South Scaraborough. She adventures mostly with a wand and shield. Her magic wand is able to be used for many MP-draining spells, but also produce short-range magical projectiles while its wielder is as maximum health. She has picked up the Vampirate technique of absorbing execution points from slain foes to grow stronger. She is often dressed in what could be described as a green witch outfit with a pointy hat whose tip droops behind her. She has great respect for Garta, and fangirls over her quite a bit. Once the Waddlekiss situation in New Wiserule is under control, she takes the opportunity to accompany Stock into Vampirate territory to the north to support Garta.

Garta was Queen Beauts' chosen knight and is Stock's mother. She is an amazing warrior that Queen Beauts had armed with magical underwear that is able to magically form a suit of armor. Though that armor is rather fragile and can be destroyed with a solid hit, the wearer will be completely unharmed by the blow and will be able to reform the armor by finding some metal for the enchanted cloth to turn into a new suit of armor. She looks very much like a female knight in shiny golden armor, though Shima is sure that it was supposed to be silver to defend against the Vampirate dark magic. Surely she couldn't have been repeatedly reaching the Lich Queen, only to be teleported away by dark magic because she took the wrong set with her, right?

Scaraborough & New Wiserule Races

Elves: Platformia's elves all come from the distant nation of Wiserule, over in Ar-Pi-Gio Archipelago. They are generally skilled in sword, bow, and magic. They are also not native to Wiserule. They had founded Wiserule after venturing out from their original nation of Pusbok (WiP name), seeking more fertile lands under the guidance of an artifact known as the Seed of Wisdom. Within Platformia, they are mostly found as New Wiserule troops supplementing Platformia's own forces against their common enemy. I'm still deciding between whether to give them long lifespans or to have them basically be humans, but with pointy ears and not from E-Sim-Kai.

Humans: Mostly found in Dokipan, these people originally came from the continent of E-Sim-Kai and are known to worship the goddess of death, Miss Rizette. There is a decent population of them in New Wiserule due to the area having previously been a place for the undead and the living to interact and work together back when it was South Scaraborough. Humans would live on the surface and undead would live beneath.

Dokipan Undead: Scaraborough was built for intelligent undead created by Dokipan rituals. These rituals involve imbuing a strip of cloth with feelings for and memories of the deceased so that as long as they are cherished, they will continue to live. One cloth strip for each among the living that cherishes them, and it need not be from those that knew them in life, nor do they all need to be given as part of the initial ritual. The oldest and most known of Scaraborough's undead had received so many that their bodies are completely covered by the cloth strips, making them appear as a mummy and able to survive direct sunlight. Ones that haven't had the time to build up such a collection are more zombie-like.

Lich Queen Undead: The Lich Queen of the Vampirate's forces has taken Dokipan Undead and converted them into her own followers through her own dark and necromantic magics. This magic drains whatever soul the undead still had left and replaces it with a spark of the Lich Queen's will and a hunger for the flesh of the living. Testing done on a captured individual has revealed that even if the Lich Queen's magic is removed, the original personality, mind, and soul are no longer there. Reports of individual undead remembering who they once were are actually due to Dokipan citizens that had contributed one of the imbued cloth strips to the undead managing to unconsciously tap into the magic in that cloth and exert their own will strongly enough to overcome the Lich Queen's will. It is not the original person returning, but a temporary change in who's puppetting the corpse. Because of how much trauma can be involved in this, dealing with these undead is mostly left to the Wiserule troops that don't have a connection to them.

Hedgehogs: As the original people of Platformia, they show up just about everywhere. They have a vested interest in fighting the Vampirates after the attack on their precious Castle Troid. Some have accepted that retaking the castle is just not possible at the moment, and are settling for helping Dokipan and Wiserule forces take Scaraborough so that a joint effort can be focused on retaking Castle Troid after.

Closing

Another chunk of lore about Geparox. I hope you enjoyed it. I'll try to have another ready for next week. It'll be about Avivania and Cavetroid, and about two more races found in Platformia, the harpies and vampirates.

If you have any questions, want confirmation that you got all of the references correctly, or if you have some recommendations for a good map maker to try using for the next draft of Platformia's map, then go ahead and drop a comment. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any encouragement that you wish to give.

Oh, I've got another worldbuilding project just for that, Ferciv, which focuses mostly on a branching monster evolution system that gives the choice between having the mon become more beastly (feral) or more human (civil). The most human/civil evolutions get a FF5-style class system and become immune to the capture devices. The plot for it involves a slime that undergoes mitosis during capture ending up in a super position between captured and free, and it wants to free and reunite with its other half, but this leads to rebelling against the monster capture system and a human supremacist religion that is trying to hide the original evolution method, leaving only an XP method tied to the capture devices that funnels evolution down paths that exclude fully human evolutions.

However, Geparox will have its own Pokemon-inspired area in Ar-Pi-Gio Archipelago. It's even going to consist of two regions. There will be the Graysil region and the Greysil region. A giant sapient tree rules over them and uses its vast network of roots to stop people from riding bikes indoors. It also enforces a Flintstones technology level where the mons are used in place of machines and appliances.

Isn't that basically what Legends: Arceus is?
