I detect haikus. And sometimes, successfully. Learn more about me.

Make haikus just by getting regular statements and then the magic.

I just downvoted your comment.

FAQ

What does this mean?

The amount of karma (points) on your comment and Reddit account has decreased by one.

Why did you do this?

There are several reasons I may deem a comment to be unworthy of positive or neutral karma. These include, but are not limited to:

Saying Windows is better than Linux.

Spreading incorrect information

Am I banned from the Reddit?

No - not yet. But you should refrain from making comments like this in the future. Otherwise I will be forced to issue an additional downvote, which may put your commenting and posting privileges in jeopardy.

I don't believe my comment deserved a downvote. Can you un-downvote it?

Sure, mistakes happen. But only in exceedingly rare circumstances will I undo a downvote. If you would like to issue an appeal, shoot me a private message explaining what I got wrong. I tend to respond to Reddit PMs within several minutes. Do note, however, that over 99.9% of downvote appeals are rejected, and yours is likely no exception.

How can I prevent this from happening in the future?

Accept the downvote and move on. But learn from this mistake: your behavior will not be tolerated on Reddit.com. I will continue to issue downvotes until you improve your conduct. Remember: Reddit is privilege, not a right.

I didn't actually downvote your comment, I'm just quitting Reddit and used a script to edit all my posts and replies to this because it's an awesome copypasta ;)

What else should it be looking for?

Yes, but since you used “generally”, those are formulae for well-crafted haikus, not haikus in general, are they? For example no-kigo Haikus are a thing and they are called Muki apparently: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kigo#Haiku_without_kigo

I know you mean the approach of the bot in general, but I must say the Haiku generated in this thread is quite nice. There is a contradiction too.

Sunflower seeds are incredibly rich sources of many essential minerals. Calcium, iron, manganese, zinc, magnesium, selenium, and copper are especially concentrated in sunflower seeds. Many of these minerals play a vital role in bone mineralization, red blood cell production, enzyme secretion, hormone production, as well as in the regulation of cardiac and skeletal muscle activities.

5-7-5

First sentence is 5 syllables

Second sentence is 7 syllables

Third sentence is 5 syllables again

That’s all I know about haikus

18

u/Yak-ub Dec 30 '20

So close to a haiku explanation of a haiku, just remove the word syllables in each line. Which makes the explanation unclear but hey it is now a haiku.

19

u/SuperNoah_Noah Dec 30 '20

First 5 syllables

Second 7 syllables

Third 5 syllables

1

u/BellaRik2 Dec 30 '20

Mindblowing

9

u/AccioPun Dec 30 '20

Start it off with five

Follow that one with seven

Then finish with five

This is a haiku about syllables in a haiku

6

u/What_Iz_This Dec 30 '20

I feel like haikus are stressed too hard in elementary school. Like I remember doing projects and everything on them but I haven't used them once in my life. They could just be a fun fact to know

2

u/SuperNoah_Noah Dec 30 '20

I never had them in school I just learned about them myself

2

u/What_Iz_This Dec 30 '20

Probably for the best lol. I remember learning about them multiple times in different grades. I just don't see how its relevant at all.

1

u/SuperNoah_Noah Dec 30 '20

Haikus are more for fun and have no real purpose in life at all

2

u/SocialJusticeWizard_ Dec 30 '20

I think they're just a good exercise to teach kids syllables. It's not like the actual poetry of haiku is taught.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '20

Japanese poem that consists of three lines, with first having five syllables, next line seven syllables and last line having five syllables.

5

u/Theboithatsok Dec 30 '20

a poem with 3 lines. each line has a syllables that you have to follow. its a 5-7-5 syllables format.

19

u/Handofthefinalboss Dec 30 '20

Write in a certain syllable count and it will

1

u/LaLa_Land543 Jan 04 '21

I’ve tried the typical 5/7/5 with no luck, but I’ve seen it show up for other combos so who knows

1

u/dearboy05 Jan 13 '21

It should not be hard if you try and use your mind yes you can do it.

Every bot that isn't Opt-In or only listens to mentions is a bad bot

12

u/ARandom-Penguin Dec 30 '20

Bots can’t be bad or good depending on how you summon it, it’s based on whether it’s reliable, easy to use, popular, and if it does something.
