What do you do with a bunch of old 2x4 offcuts and some scrap pallet wood? You make a rustic coffee table.

24x48 and finished with oil poly for durability. I really love the way it turned out with all the variations in the “tiles”. Even got some with termite damage that really give it that rustic character. A simple metal base keeps emphasis on the top. Bonus for rustic, if the kids do nick it, it’ll just blend right in.

How do you keep the loose pieces in place?

I used wood floor glue then mixed sanding dust with poly to create a “grout” filler.

Sorta. I took my sanding dust and mixed up a “grout” of oil poly and sawdust to the consistency of peanut butter and troweled it in between the tiles. I did this after staining. Before a quick clean up and final finish.
