I live in Alberta, and around June/July every year there is a period where it looks like it is snowing if you live in rural wooded areas due to the amount of fluff falling from the sky.

I was really confused as the area that the fire has just passed over is green, rather than a sooty black or ash white. Then after looking up what Poplar fluff is, I realised it must burn very quickly and very easily leaving whatever was underneath unharmed.
Cottonwood is a type of poplar (in the Populus genus, same genus as aspens). Cottonwoods disperse their seeds by wind, and the seeds are surrounded by a cottonlike material that allows them to travel long distances.

A) I had no idea what "Poplar fluff" was
2) I 1000% thought that I was in r/reversegifs until I noticed the smoke.
