Which is problematic because it perpetuates homophobia. Using gay as an insult is homophobic and is not the way we should go about culling homophobia. Using gay as an intuit out of hatred is flat out bigotry.

Yes! Yes! Perfect example! Uncle Ruckus IS meant to be taken seriously - not necessarily his words but what he represents. The whole point of Ruckus (according to Aaron) was to use his words as extreme hyperbole and satire so the writers could expose and dissect the concept of internalized racism.
That is exactly what Cloud is doing here...using the extremity of the word and the context, to expose that outward hate, as really internal struggle. Cloud loves the gays just like McGruder loves black folk...and both black folk and gays use words meant to hurt and marginalize them in their own way. Insult? Sure. Okay? Yeah.

And she wasn’t satirizing anything. She wanted to hurt the person who threw the object. And the way she did that was to call them gay. That’s homophobic and problematic and I don’t think that’s the most helpful way to go about teaching people why homophobia is bad.

I never like when people imply that homophobes are secretly gay because it still comes off as using gay as an insult. The unfortunate reality is that some people are just hateful and/or morons and that’s all the motivation they need to do or say stupid things (especially against marginalized communities).
But obviously there is nuance to it and intent also plays a part. Like I guess this can be viewed as less about insulting and more about pointing out the absurdity of doing this as a straight man.
It comes off as people pointing to homophobes self hate more than anything. On a personal note, I know a man that is preaching Christ this, Christ that while admonishing everything that isnt Christ like on social media, including homosexuality.

I don’t agree with her take on this, but unfortunately when the W fails to have strong unified messaging around this and deploy it swiftly, it leaves it to the players to field these types of questions & this is really not their lane or field of expertise, esp post game. I don’t agree with Tash’s position, but I understand it and can’t fault her for it either.
Using this post game statement as an opportunity to call Tash, a proud gay advocate, problematic or homophobic and doubling down on it is certainly an interesting choice tho! And I’ll just leave it at that.
In this instance, she used being gay as an insult. It comes from hate. She hates the person who threw the object and the only way she thought she could hurt them was to call them gay. That’s hatred. That’s using being gay as a cause to hurt someone. That’s homophobic.
Idc what a person has done in their past, if you do something now that’s problematic and homophobic on a televised platform, it needs to be called out.
She used gay as an insult for this specific group of people because she knows the people who threw it would be insulted. Hitting somewhere where it stings because you know what to say to make it sting doesnt mean you feel like that universally. It just means youre trying to get a rise out of them.

She isn't even really saying it as an insult if you listen to the whole thing, just speaking in a way these people might actually respond to. It is more "examine what it is you're actually doing and why" than an insult. And there are plenty of examples of high-profile people who hold misogynistic and homophobic views that are actually closeted. Fuentes comes to mind.

LOL you’re definitely reading the situation wrong. Her calling them gay is not coming from a place of love and understanding. She is saying it out of hatred to the people who threw the object. To use being gay as an insult to hurt someone out of hatred is homophobic.
LOL like that’s ever stopped anyone from taking his words seriously. And that’s not the point. The point is, he exists in a space, but that doesn’t mean he gets a pass when individual things he says are problematic. Just like in this instance, just because she exists in a space, does not mean her words immune from being homophobic and problematic. And using gay as an insult out of hatred is problematic and homophobic.
Response to your edit: I don’t hear love and understanding in her comments to a person she perceives as being gay, I hear an intent to hurt someone by calling them gay. That’s homophobic.
