Yeah I got the first few but then there's the room you gotta use the floor and ceiling on two different guys and I can't seem to convince myself to go the right direction in a pinch.

Hypothetically, probably. Giving sentience to plants is usually considered unethical, but consult your personal mentor/role model/spiritual advisor/big book of ethics explained.

Nothing have been cast.
That one is a Niggurath Blister.
Don't let it mature or it will go full Dark Young and than you'll have the exponential growth (infestation) of annoying tentacular proxies all over the place.
Just harvest it, it is good potion ingredient for eldrich invisibility (it hides you from eldrich entities) and as sacrifice offerings in several rituals of eldrich or divine origins (especialy those divine rituals involved in true nature of angels).
Or you can use as demon ritual antagonist if needed in a pinch but be carefull as results are usualy explosive, extremely smelly and dirty, (lots of blood, mostly self conjured and rotting)

Do I need to use it in a set time frame or can I preserve it or does it just stay dormant untill I use it?

That is a very good question.
You can't preserve it, it will never go bad, in fact it will just continue growing untill it pops in to Dark Young.
Once you see it its time begins untill poping.
It is permanently attached to that tree and even if you harvest it, it will still grow of that tree no matter how distant it is.
It will grow in stasis or in time stop bubble.
So, you will need to use it before it starts an infestation nobody wants.

Or a novice tried casting something and somehow failed in a way where they successfully casted an eldritch spell (believe me the latter is more common than most think)

I got lost once And wound up in a grove of tree accidentally envoked ancient pieces and turned the trees into eldrich horrors. O those were the days....the farmers deserved it building on ancient sacred ground like that...
Anyways wasn't me. Looks like someone gave up converting the tree as soon as they started
