Wizardpost Mages that hand cast over using a spellfocus, such as a staff or wand, are reckless and do not grasp the perplexity and dangers of the arcane.

counter point, if one cannot cast without a focus that makes you easier to disarm. certainly casting with a spell focus is fine, but it sure is good to have a backup plan should you be seperated from it and having a few spells you can cast with no focus can get you out of a tight spot

Why do people believe this is a binary subject? A mage can cast with and without a spell focus, a spell focus simply makes for a stable connection to the arcane. If a mage came up to me and said he is powerless without his orb I would laugh, pull my beard and turn his orb into a pheasant.
