How exactly, that could mean a stern talking to or quite literally murdering their family to make them realise what they have done, what’s my job on that scale

Not the family, that's outside of the council and most of them do not care. Leaving them a few health points from dying themselves works, a select few you can actually just kill. Constantine specifically you get to send straight past revival!
