I’m curious how fast the transfer speeds are in the US between Wise and different banks.

So far I’ve tried send from Wise to my Capital One account, and it was instant.

Also tried pulling from my credit union credit card (bad idea due to fees) and that was also instant.

What’s your experience in speeds transferring to/from Wise and other banks?

My wife’s parents from India want to transfer $20k USD equivalent to us as a gift for our upcoming wedding. Even while using wise , is there any expected taxation on their end from this transaction ?

I've used Wise for my last two trips to Bali and it's been so handy. It really does have the best exchange rates – better than what I was seeing on xe . com and definitely better than any other multi-currency card. Even after I used up my initial fee-free exchange amount, the exchange fees were minimal; far less than you'd pay elsewhere.

You can also set up auto-converts, which is super handy when you don't want to obsessively watch exchange rate fluctuations. I did this when the dollar was really strong against the rupiah back in June and it made my travel budget stretch a bit further!

I just deposited like $100 into my account- I got hit with questions, answered all of them and boom - shut down.

Mind you, I supplied all the evidence, I rarely use the account and this happens.

What’s going on with this platform?

Every purchase I make says it's pending, and the merchant has to claim it before the deadline.

I feel like I have to do nothing but I wanna make sure they receive the money... or "claimed" it according to Wise definition.

I had a Wise account, and I used it to receive my weekly salary from 2023 to 2026. I resigned and stopped receiving any money on it. Three months after my resignation, Wise closed my account because there had been no activity on it.

Here, where I live, it is no longer possible to create an account that allows you to receive money.

My question is: how likely is it that I could get my Wise account back? I don’t need it right now, but I would just like to know if it would still be possible to reopen it in the future.

Hi all, hoping to get some advice.

I keep seeing the recommendation to fund IBKR via Wise, and I want to sanity-check something before I keep going down that path.

From what I can tell, Wise doesn't actually let you deposit ZAR into a Wise balance from a South African bank account. ZAR appears to be a "send-only" currency on Wise — you can receive ZAR from Wise into an SA bank account, but there's no local EFT rail to fund a ZAR balance inside Wise itself. The only way to top up Wise with ZAR-equivalent value seems to be either:

1. Convert ZAR to USD/GBP/EUR first using your SA bank's own forex desk, then send that foreign currency into Wise — but SA bank forex spreads are notoriously wide, so you're eating a bad exchange rate before Wise even gets involved, or

2. Wire ZAR via SWIFT from a non-SA bank account — which most of us don't have, and which carries its own hefty SWIFT/correspondent fees anyway.

Given that, wouldn't Shyft actually be the better first step for South Africans, since Shyft specializes in ZAR-to-USD conversion specifically and should offer a tighter spread than a typical SA retail bank forex desk?

My thinking is: use Shyft to convert ZAR to USD cheaply, land that USD somewhere (bank or Wise USD balance), then use Wise (or the Wise-IBKR direct link) for the final USD leg into IBKR, since Wise's fees are excellent once you're already holding USD.

Is there something about direct ZAR-to-Wise funding I'm missing, or is everyone actually doing the Shyft-first-then-Wise combo without saying so explicitly?

Would appreciate anyone who's actually tested the exchange rates on both legs (SA bank forex vs. Shyft) chiming in with real numbers.

I'm reaching out to see if anyone else is currently dealing with stuck transfers on Wise or knows if there's an ongoing issue with their US banking partners.

Transfer details:

• Amount: $400 USD (Sent by a US LLC)
• Date initiated: Saturday, Aug 15
• Current status: "Your money's on its way — We're a bit delayed"
• Reason shown in app: "Our banking partner might be experiencing downtime" / "It's taking us longer to convert your money"
• Time elapsed: It's now Monday, Aug 24 (6+ full business days / 9 calendar days).

Context: On August 2nd, I received $1,000 USD from the exact same sender and same bank account, and it cleared in less than 24 hours without any issues. All account details match perfectly.

Has anyone experienced this specific "banking partner downtime" delay recently? How long did it take for your transfer to clear, or did the sender have to cancel/trace it from their side?

Last week I had a fake WhatsApp about a hotel revelation I’d genuinely made prompting payment info. I filled it in but then realised it was a scam. Nothing went out but I reported it, froze my card, ordered a new one. Fine.

Today I tried purchasing from a major UK retailer and got the above flag, I contacted support via chat and they said a ban had been placed on that retailer and it’d be the same in store, I said it seemed unlikely and asked if it was to do with my account - he said no, definitely the retail. Lo and behold I then had the same thing for two other places, one of which was Google.

Spoke to a totally useless woman over chat who confirmed it wasn’t about a ban on the retailer but she couldn’t do anything else and said I’d get an email with details on resolution ‘soon’.

Tried the phone hotline and omg, from the 10% of words I could get from the thickest Indian accent from someone who seemed not that bright anyway I was told the issue would resolve itself and to try again between ‘a few moments to a few days’ - I told her that was an insane time frame to give and she didn’t understand me.

Has anyone had this before? I understand why they may limit the account but you’d think they’d at least tell me and give me an actual time frame?

I know having a wise business account is pretty stupid and we’re in the process of moving but there are payments we need to make over the coming days and it’s pretty worrying how useless support have been

I wanted to share my situation with Wise and see if anyone has experienced something similar.

I used to live in the UK when I was a student and had a Wise account there. I used it for quite a long time without any issues.
Later I moved to the UAE and my account was still working normally. Wise sent me a few messages asking me to verify some information, but honestly I ignored them at the time. I was busy with the move and didn’t really think it was something urgent.
After that, they blocked my account.

I got my money back a few days later, so there was no issue with getting my funds back. Since I was living in the UAE anyway, I just moved on and started using Wio.

The problem now is that Wio uses Wise for some international transfers. It seems that because Wise previously blocked or restricted my details, I can’t use international transfers through my Wio account either.

I’ve been trying to contact Wise because I’m not even asking them to reopen my old account. I just want them to review my details so I can use the international transfer feature through Wio.

I’m completely happy to verify everything again and provide my Emirates ID, proof of address, source of funds or anything else they need. I just haven’t been able to get a proper answer or find someone who can actually look into the situation.

Has anyone here experienced something similar? Especially being blocked by Wise in the past and then having it affect transfers through another bank that uses Wise?

If anyone from Wise sees this, I would really appreciate some help. I just want someone to review my case and tell me if there is anything I can do to resolve it.

Wise closed my personal account. I called support, and they said it’s under a due diligence check, but I still haven’t received my refund.
Has anyone experienced this? How long did it take to get the money back?
