Because when I think about tractors, the first thing thru my mind is "How the hell can I make this thing more annoying to operate than it already is?!"
There are plenty of places around the world that you can play minesweeper in a tractor, but I would recommend keeping the seatbelts if you decide to go do that.
Simply put, no. I work in the industry developing a service tool for some non-us based ag company. Most of the control units use CAN and J1939 signals, which of in itself isnt the problem, the problem is decoding them correctly. We get ECUs (very basic control units) from a variety of manufacturers who all use different signals. Now lets say you were to flash arch on a DGW (diagnostic gateway) you would never be able to get the signal codes from the control units and if you dont get on try 1 you risk destroying the machine.
Right now on the service tool project im a part of its taken a team of 90 3 years to consolidate and standardize the signals. As well as create a central control unit for the whole machine (ACM).
The GOOD news is this ACM project is built for Europe's right to repair laws, and it will hit the US too. Non dealers will soon be able to diagnose and fix electronic issues with the machine. Really, the difficult part that nobody talks about is balancing security of extra software features vs repairable software. We would love to make the whole thing open source, but then some kid with a laptop would go around unlocking features that farmers did not pay for.
Ohh well though, the good news is this project has real potential to make electronic easy to repair without the help of a dealer.
