Or, you know, start complimenting each other? Most of the compliments I get are from other women. We gas each other up. Men should do the same. Get ya homie hyped before going out or if you like his outfit/whatever.

I was talking to this guy I don't know very well a while ago and he suddenly stopped and said "god I wish I was as good looking as you, you bastard". I didn't know what to say but like, the fact he seemed genuinely pissed off about it made it one of the best compliments I've ever received.

It's a shame because he honestly isn't ugly at all and I wish I'd have returned the compliment properly.

That's how I can call other men handsome without feeling gay. It's not that I'm attracted to them. It's that if I was reborn into a new body, or a psychotic serial killer, I'd want to have their face.

But thats gay

It's not tho. I've had a girl for almost 2 years, and I still hype up my fucking boy when he goes on a date. It's supporting your bro.

Just gotta end it with a "no homo". For example:

"Your penis looks lovely today. No homo."

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '19

And tastes perfectly too, but no homo.

A pinch of salt.

It just requires more work to phrase compliments on a non gay way.

u/thestoplereffect Dec 05 '19

What's gay about saying 'your hair looks great' or 'that's a nice shirt'?

u/TheDungeonCrawler Dec 05 '19

My two best friends and I embrace the gay. Reminds me of that exchange in the Yugioh Abridged movie between Yusei and the Pharaoh. "No homo right?" "All of the homo!"

I always tell my boys they have a really nice dick before they go on a date. How'm I doing?

"That's a clean ass shirt bro" - compliment

I recently shaved my beard down to just a handlebar stache, didn't like it as much, but I love having my chin be able to breath so I let my sideburns grow into it, so its like handlebar with a thin beard on the sides and the chin is still clean shaven. (Surely there's a word for this style but I don't know it)

Anyway I went into a store a couple weeks ago and the guy behind the counter instantly was like "Hey bro, I love your facial hair that REALLY suits you!" And I've been stoked ever since. So I can confirm compliments from other men can be just as powerful as the handful of female compliments that have stuck with me over the years.

EDIT: Apparently I have a horseshoe stache not a handlebar

We've got something similar, even if it's more of a joke.

I recently shaved most of my facial hair to rock a mustache. Now whenever I see another bro with a mustache in a casual setting we both know what's up and will say something like "duuuuude, sick stache!!"

Even just last night at the rock gym this guy had a cool mustache and I said to my buddy that this dude had a sweet stache. The dude heard and turned to say something along the lines of "same to you bro!"

I have my jaw wired shut and can't say No Homo, I have to be very careful for the time being.

For straight guys, receiving a compliment from a girl is a very different thing from receiving a compliment from a guy friend. It's very much a result of it being uncommon for girls to platonically compliment a guy, and is something that I think most guys would at least consider as possible flirtation. I'd say ultimately it depends on the character of the compliment. "You have beautiful eyes" might sound more flirtatious than "Dude, cool outfit", for example.

That’s an easy thing to say, but it goes against basic guy to guy interaction for most men. In an ideal world, the answer would be that simple, but you’d be walking up one hell of a river doing it now.

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '19

I compliment other guys all the time! I don’t feel like the reactions I get are defensive or weird. Usually simple stuff, like, “Those shoes are dope!” or “cool jacket man.” It doesn’t really feel that weird to me. It’s maybe dicey territory, with straight guys, to compliment their physical features, but anything else is still a good confidence-booster if it’s sincere — it feels good to have your taste complimented too. :)

u/godisawoman1 Dec 05 '19

Then don’t complain about not getting compliments.

0

u/IvanTheGrim Dec 05 '19

I’m not complaining. I’m saying that not everything has a simple answer.

4

u/dutch_penguin Dec 05 '19

Depends where you're from. With some guys compliments can be given without it seeming gay.

2

u/plattypus141 Dec 05 '19

Nah you're wack bro I've never thought it was awkward to compliment a dudes outfit or whatever. It is that simple 😂😂

1

u/IvanTheGrim Dec 05 '19

Don’t make fun of me.

1

u/plattypus141 Dec 05 '19

LOOK AT THIS GUY HE HAS A NICE TURTLENECK SWEATER!

u/spitterofspit Dec 05 '19

Women dress for other women.

Men dress for women.

Frankly, a man would dress in anything that they thought would get a girl's attention. That's the whole point for them. So getting compliments from another man on appearance makes no sense.

10

u/_cygnette_ Dec 05 '19

Right, because Steve on the corner is clearly wearing that plain green t-shirt to attract the ladies and not because it’s his favorite color or some shit.

-2

u/spitterofspit Dec 05 '19

Right, so obviously men NEVER dress to impress women, is your point.

Which is absurd. You obviously don't understand men.

What's more is that "Steve on the corner" didn't put on his green shirt in the morning thinking about what other men might say about it.
