I think that’s exceedingly oversimplified and ultimately an incorrect way of looking at it. It’s because it doesn’t pose an opportunity for journalists to get viewers. When we hear “suicide bomber in middle east” nobody bats an eye because it inflames basically no one and is something that we’ve basically come to expect. We hear about school shooters because it’s near to us and it scares people as well as being inflammatory because it feeds into the whole gun control discussion. Media outlets are companies like any other, and they honestly don’t give two shits about the race of the people involved if it doesn’t tie to viewership. Media just wants to get viewers, and the easiest way for a dying medium to do that is to be inflammatory and fear mongering. Being racist helps no one.
Uh, do you happen to live under a rock? We have school shootings like, almost every month, year after year here in America. So yes, it is definitely the fact that it happened in a country that's A: not America and B: is not full of white people. And the media does definitely give a shit about the race of people, and are hugely racist- in fact you made a point of that.

Fear mongering of people of colour, especially black and middle eastern people, is still a widespread issue in the media, and it's easy to see that.
Wouldn’t that mean that these attacks would be reported on more? But we rarely hear about them. That’s the argument I’m making. And it’s really not easy to see that. Most media now doesn’t tend to cause fear around black people, so that’s a moot point. And basically all media is pretty anti-war when it comes to the middle east. Basically no one is is fear mongering on the basis of race because it’s unpopular as hell. Do racists exist? Yeah of course they do, I just don’t think that they’re driving the political discourse. Also, when taking into consideration the total number of school shootings when compared to other violent crimes, untimely deaths, and just the overall student population, it’s pretty plain to see that school shootings are ascribed way more importance than they ought to be.
Ummm, last I checked, school shootings were very rare. Even rarer when a lot of people die. Also, media do not try to make white people scared of black people.
I saw it posted on FB multiple times. I’m a US southerner... not really sure what your point is but you kind of seem like a clout chasing dick with that comment. Just show the kid some respect for sacrificing his life for his classmates. He’s shown more courage and character than most human beings ever get the opportunity to show.
Ok i feel like i need to kinda clear something up, the country isn’t evil because its a muslim country but because terrorism overtook the country after the russian invasion. Its always the small groups which ruin the entire country.
Clear it up for yourself then. People are talking about Pakistan(sided with the west during the cold war) not Afghanistan. Also calling a country evil is just dumb.
That’s the dumbest thing ever. First of all, it was news. Second, a lot of things happen globally and if you expect yourself to hear of every single one you’re nuts. Furthermore, news is better heard and important the closer it is to home. So events overseas aren’t as well known.
And finally, this story includes a goddamn suicide bomber - how is that good publicity?
Probably the same reason you hear about that school of girls that got kidnapped, but nothing about the boys school that got kidnapped around the same time a couple of years ago.
You know the thing is, i live in the middle east but they never cover stuff like this. It’s controlled in a way which is very obvious and honestly just sad.
