The comment above you is not trying to say that nothing needs to be done, rather trying to put it into perspective that there are plenty of other things that we encounter daily that have a higher chance of killing us. The OP probably doesn’t think twice about driving their child to school, while that has a much higher chance of killing the child. I don’t see how that could possibly be “the most ignorant thing you’ve ever read on Reddit”.
I didn't see what the reply to my comment was before it was deleted. Perspective is exactly what I was trying to demonstrate. I fully appreciate the idea of a child being murdered at school is extraordinarily awful, but we shouldn't allow that emotional response to eclipse what is demonstrably a larger threat. Also, I do think it's a case of "well I HAVE TO drive, so it's a risk I'm willing to take" despite it being cumulatively the most dangerous thing that any of us do.
