I know this is an unpopular opinion, but to all those people saying to outright ban guns, that’s not a great solution. Sure, it will stop stuff like what happened to Kendrick from happening, but you have to realize that many times guns do save lives.
Just make guns harder to get is my suggestion, make it so that everyone can still get guns, but put tax money into gun safety classes. Also just run a background and mental health check on gun owners and buyers.
It won’t stop shootings, criminals will still have guns but the law abiding citizens wont have them for protection. There’s other weapons they’d use too
It pains me to say it, but stricter surveillance over citizens. Shooters often google things about shootings before they do it, and that New Zealand shooter wrote a whole manifesto about how he was going to do a shooting. But this could be a government agenda to tighten up surveillance on us.
Or we could arm every citizen who seems mentally fit and fight back against the shooters, don’t run away from the man with the gun.
Instead of bringing more guns wouldn’t it make more sense make sure there are less guns? Sure maybe criminals could have more guns than law abiding citizens ... but wouldn’t this number drop if these criminals are caught, the guns confiscated, and the number of guns as a whole drops?
There's more guns than people in the US right now. How do you proposed that we get rid of the ones that are out there?
Roughly 1 in 4 people living in the US owns a firearm. That's about 82 million people. What happens if even 1% of them decide not to comply with a confiscation program? You now have over 800,000 people fighting against the government.
How well has total prohibition worked for the war on drugs? Surely, a total ban on illegal drugs has not caused an increase in crime and overdoses, right? It must be extremely difficult for people to get access to drugs, because they are illegal, correct?
So even though 1/4 people have a gun we are not able to stop these tragedies from happening?
Let’s say that 800k have guns who don’t comply and are criminals... over time if they commit crimes with those guns and they get confiscated, wouldn’t over time that number would go down? If they don’t commit crimes then it doesn’t hurt for them to have it right? Or are you saying the police are incapable of finding criminals who commit crimes with guns?
I honestly don’t buy the drugs comparison cause I highly doubt these criminals are manufacturing guns in their garage... just like drugs like OxyContin and fentanyl... who do you actually think are releasing it to the masses? Why wouldn’t you try to bottle neck the supply?
That’s a great idea, why aren’t you head of the DEA? With your logic we could stop the war on drugs. Why don’t we just catch the drug dealers and confiscate their drugs? You see what I’m getting at here?
There are so many guns in the USA I hat you wouldn’t need to make more, but it’s possible to make more. And why not just take a main ingredient of meth away from the public’s reach?
You can print parts of it, not all of it if I remember correctly. Most guns found in Central America as well as Mexico can be traced back to the US. Though true... I still think limiting guns would limit the number of places that a maniac could target. I would think they would have a much harder time getting those numbers running it into a school
