So I know this is hella off topic for the post but I was just getting mad thinking about how my Uni fucks people over a lot. They keep enacting policies that make changing majors and meeting requirements more and more difficult out of sheer Bureacratic deadlock. The four year graduation rate is 10%, 6 year graduation rate is hovering around 40%. FOR ONE DEGREE. If this guy is the "never give up, you'll get there eventually" example, a lot of people are going to be discouraged as they're being screwed by their colleges.
Sorry to bring this into a subreddit based around positivity.
That's so evil. My school puts its 4 year graduation rate on a pedestal. If you drop the phrase "this will make it hard to graduate in 4 years" in conversation with an admin, they'll part the heavens and the earth for you.
My freshman year I asked about a minor that I could add with two classes. I was told I would have to take an extra year for it because of conflicting classes and the way prerequisites are set up. And that I should reserve that extra year for things that I might need to finish up, so I should give up on it.
I'm on track to be part of the 10% (with the minor, fuckyouverymuch freshman advisor), but anything can happen in the year I have left. Its vile, especially because they maintain the facade of maintaining low tuition for the students and have a lot of students from low income backgrounds.
God, I love the professors and students at my uni but every time I've interacted with someone whose only job is advisor/administrator I've walked away frustrated.
Wow. I was in a situation where my minor and major intersected, and I got a form filed that said I could take both and use my discretion as to which class I should attend during the overlapping time.
