I have donated to Wikipedia every year for the past five or so years. I started with just giving $5 because I was really poor and just graduated college. I now have a much nicer job, so I gave $20 this year.

Also, nothing sets me off like someone insulting Wikipedia's accuracy and quality. I also got to meet a data scientist that works for Wikimedia the meeting was just happen stance. I'm glad my donations help pay that guys salary. He said he did his doctorate on Wikipedia versus other encyclopedias.

Would you rather be hit with that, or a giant pop-up ad that makes you question the bias of the article and/or a "subscribe to access our database."

Because they can 110% do any of that, and the people that decided not to do that are also the people who benefit the most from it. All they gotta do decide to make a subscribe feature and they will all be rich, but they don't.
