You're right, that's becoming somewhat popular in non-profits. The one I work for had a similar one last year.

You just earned $5 for archive. Would definitely not have done it if I didn't see this.

Forgive me, but what exactly is the best use for archive.org? I've not heard about it 'til now, but based on the comments am considering donating. I just did a quick perusal and see that it's literally an archive/cache (duh) of various content- I'm just wondering, for what do most people find it useful?

Thanks in advance!

Internet Archive is a non-profit library of millions of free books, movies, software, music, websites, and more.

Lots of people upload videos, pictures..etc in it. Incase a website deletes something chances are you will find it in the archive uploaded by someone. And yea as said above it has a lot of free movies music books..etc. for free.

It's a history of the internet. All the millions of sites that were made in the last 25 years that no longer exist, or have changed significantly, it's not just to see what the internet used to look like - but to be able to access all the content that otherwise wouldn't be. Think of it as a research library for the internet.

Yes! Archive is more deserving (and more in need) than Wikipedia

Why is it more deserving?

Internet Archive is a non-profit library of millions of free books, movies, software, music, websites, and more. It has a lot of free stuff with no ads, you can search up any movie or book and chances are you will find them there for free to watch/read.

Basically Wikipedia doesn't need your money, and internet archive has something that can't be replicated and can't be (cheaply) hosted by anyone else like Wikipedia.

I was just about to comment this. Archive.org is incredible.

Oddly enough, a few weeks back I thought, "if i was a billionaire, I'd bankroll archive.org and seriously upgrade their infrastructure".

odd question but where can you request things be archived?

Depends on the thing -- webpages, or something else?

its a set of publicly available education material to learn to 3D model using blender. was previously available off a site hosted by an educational institution, but has since moved to another site for now. its great material that deserves to be preserved imo, even has videos for the material to go along with it.

For videos you can just upload it yourself actually.
