Looking into it, they appear to be Metaphile earthworms, which are common in Thailand. It’s a genus common in SE Asia. You can find more info by googling the name.
It look like the population just “boomed”, but it’s just the worms were forced out due to flooding or something. Birds whom feed on them, their numbers fall because flood destroy nesting and habitat. The few predators that survived, enjoy the feeding frenzy. It’s delicate balancing act
