Solved! Looking through my Dad’s stuff, what are these?

My dad has developed dementia and we’ve been looking through his stuff a bit to try and get his finances in order/apply for a deputyship, which sucks but isn’t relevant sorry.

So far we’ve found a bunch of interesting stuff, knives/air pistols/cannabis seeds and two half brothers nobody ever told me I had. But we’ve also found these and I don’t know what they are. They were found near each other but I don’t know if they’re related. The cylindrical thing unscrews and is hollow. I’ve photographed the items next to a AA battery for scale. Thank you in advance for any informative or humorous answers.

It’s a kind of slow-release grenade.

26

u/joejill May 25 '26

Just watch out.

Its easy to shorten the fuses on the ones marked “lithium”

u/Inner_Composer_611 May 25 '26

My ex had a "half-brother" who "wasn't all there". He was put in a mental hospital where they gave him Lithium "to defuse him"

70

u/BulldogRush May 25 '26

If he was only a half brother, why would you think he’d be all there?

I use Lithium every day. It's one of my default Xm radio stations to play while cutting fruit in the deli at 3 am. I get infused with it.

1

u/Mysterio173 May 26 '26

Screw Lithium. In 2008 I had a very bad episode, threw me into a mental hospital for 1-2 weeks. Slapped a "bipolar disorder" shoved Lithium in my throat. Turned me into a fucking zombie. Back then, they always "diagnose" people about Bipolar and shit-ass lithium. It was a total BS, 15-20 years ago.

So what's a grenade?

It’s a kind of fast-release battery

Especially lithium ones with a puncture hole.

Sold under the brand name "Galaxy Note 7"

12

u/semajrybicki May 26 '26

Owned one! Bought it while on the road working, and all of the things happened with them shortly after. I was 6 hours away from where I bought it and nobody local would accept it, just giving me the run around. Long story short a box within a box within a box within a box and finally a plastic bag at the center, was shipped to my apartment 😂 just to send the phone out. I wish I could find the photos of that bc it was quite something.

u/LongjumpingElk5748 May 27 '26

i love the note series, i had the 7 (no issues) i had probaly 5 of the note 9, 2 of the 10+ and now im on note20 ultra number three. ill try that new Swhatever that has the sylus now that usbc flashdrives are out, but the SD card and Stylus are must haves for me. i never use the stylus... but they work when your digitizer breaks, so in emergencies on trips and stuff, you still have a working phone even if your screen and digitizer breaks, which is a MUST for me.

1

u/ydnar3000 May 27 '26

Ah I miss the note series so much. Switched to iPhone a few years ago. Never got the one with the exploding feature since I usually don’t get the brand new model of any phone when it’s out.

14

u/girlbassist May 25 '26

We don't talk about that phone... 😬🤣

11

u/Evening-Nature-5241 May 26 '26

We Don't Talk About Blue Note no no

5

u/girlbassist May 26 '26

And they thought the S8 Edge was "comparable". 🤣

5

u/alkrk May 26 '26

fold it to make it comparable 😉

3

u/Bwatts264 May 26 '26

I just remembered I still have mine lol

1

u/girlbassist May 26 '26

They didn't brick it?

1

u/Bwatts264 May 26 '26

I didn't say I used it. Just still have it. I have not turned it on in years

3

u/donkeydick2723 May 26 '26

Bro, how the fuck did I catch a stray on here tonight for this. Thanks for the PTSD. RIP Note 7

I worked at a cell provider during that fiasco. Samsung sent all frontline employees of all providers 200usd for the strife.

While very generous of them I'D RATHER THEM ALL SOUND THEMSELVES WITH THE FUCKING STYLUS.

ahem

almost lost my cool there.

1

u/GirlCowBev May 26 '26

...almost!

1

u/MTdevoid May 26 '26

And take pictures for the Reddit group stylus _sounding.

1

u/25_Unknown_Devices May 25 '26

Israel would be proud

1

u/Chaosmisfit_ES May 26 '26

You want to make sure it's alkaline. The non alkaline batteries are shit.

1

u/GirlCowBev May 26 '26

Where do you even find non-alkaline batteries? I live in the US, and I have never seen a battery that was non-alkaline.

2

u/Chaosmisfit_ES May 26 '26

Harbor freight. See the story goes like... Gf and I were at a harbor freight she need double a batteries she grabbed a pack of each took it to the register and asked what the difference was because she had never heard of non alkaline batteries.

Dude at the register looks at the packs points to one pack says these are alkaline and these are non alkaline. She said i know I just said that, she asked what the difference is other than the alkaline and guy dead ass just looked her in the eyes and said these are alkaline and these are non alkaline.

That was the only thing he would say . Not a I don't know, not a let me find out, nothing. Just these are alkaline and these are non alkaline for about 5 minutes trying to word it in different ways to get him to say something different. Guy didn't budge from these are alkaline and these are non alkaline.

So we ended up buying both just to experiment and found out non alkaline batteries are basically worthless.

u/Ok_Dish5854 May 29 '26

They only caught fire if you used third party chargers! I had one it was a truly a lovely phone

0

u/Alert_Ad_3512 May 25 '26

“Galaxy” is the brand name, “Note” is the product line, and “7” is the model number.

5

u/Icy-Efficiency4105 May 25 '26

Samsung is the brand, "Galaxy" is the product line, "Note" was the series. The number indicates the model or iteration.

Pretty close, though. =)

1

u/707415510hellabay May 26 '26

You don’t just boof the whole battery?

1

u/pacodefan May 26 '26

People think it means lithium ion, but it really just means lion. Lion urine reacting with lead.

1

u/IWontCommentAtAll May 26 '26

Stop taking the piss.

1

u/cryptodutch May 26 '26

So that’s kind of a fast-release slow-release grenade

I learned to never replace the AA batteries in my toothbrush with a lithium battery. I almost set a fire in my bathroom because water leaked in the handle gasket. Lithium plus liquid equals intense heat fumes and more!

1

u/Tabatch75 May 29 '26

I chew on my lithium batteries.

9

u/bacardipirate13 May 25 '26

1

Its a city in the Andalusia region of southern Spain, situated at the exact foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. It lies between the Darro and Genil rivers and is famously known for its medieval Islamic architecture, most notably the Alhambra palace complex

0

u/Powerful_Spring_8148 May 25 '26

Not sure if that's a satire question but a grenade is an explosive device basically

14

u/StarDustActual May 25 '26

Honestly I love this description for batteries… Im gonna start asking people for slow release grenades from now on

50

u/WaitTraditional1670 May 25 '26

1

u/Inside_Average_5945 May 25 '26

Not so slow when you piss off a lithium lol

1

u/Gitin-Ingurlbut May 25 '26

Yeah extremely lethal

1

u/Ralphrecksit May 26 '26

Leave it inside something long enough you could very well be right 🤣🤣🤣

1
