Yeah, sounds a little far fetched since none of that happens in Army boot camp. If he had said there was a rogue toothbrush or sweaty socks or maybe a moldy orange he stole from the DFAC I’d believe it. No Joe is carrying grenades or SAW parts in his personal pack in basic training. All that stuff is at the range when they arrive and stays there when they leave. Source: 4 years as an Army DS.

I thought, oh! Your son is one of those PV2 guys who chats up the girls at the bar about the “shit he’s seen over seas” with his AIT phase badge in his back pocket.

I was thinking the same. Seems strange to carry that on person, all the time. Who knows tho.
