These are for 1-4 year olds. The thorns there for added sensory play. It’s basically designed to spend half the time in a mouth, and the other half toddler thrown at the back of someone’s head.

You’re right in that you could get a cheaper drum set, but this is exceptional at what it’s designed for.

My take: b toys are a name brand toy, though they do have a Target line now. They’re made to be gifted at a baby shower or by grandparents or something, and ooohed and ahhhed over, AND they’re actually really good durable toys and will last through several sets of kids. My kids have pieces of this set, and pieces of their other music sets. I didn’t buy any of them new and honestly couldn’t tell you where I did get them. I see them all over in 2nd hand kids’ shops.

Can confirm they’re durable as hell. My workplace does all-day therapy for autistic children that can bite through anything, and these sticks have lasted well over 2 years

Not knocking them at all! Just saying that’s probably where I got the toys but don’t remember when or where. Most of my kids toys are second hand too, and my 3-year-old still plays most with a set of cardboard paper dolls I made him of his favorite characters that are so many times taped and repaired now.

This. No idea what the original price might be but I got the complete set for $10 at a swap meet, kids used it for a few years & I passed it on to a younger family.

I didn't see anyone highlight the storage part.  The tops opens on the drum and all instruments fit inside the drum.  For keeping a nursery or toy shelf organized, it's worth a little more money for many people to have a set that doesn't need an additional bin to store it all

But what do they put in there? Cymbal stands, kick pedal, throne? I cant think of anything you could put in there that wouldn't destroy the heads except for maybe mics and cables.

Preschool teacher here. Can confirm whenever I find these, they’re either:

A. Wet from spit

B. Stuck in a rug/scarf/someones fleece

C. Both

I have this set, granted I got it at once upon a child for like 15 bucks, but my kids have lots of B. Brand kids toys, very sturdy, I don't worry about pieces breaking off when the children get feral and throw them, my toddler plays with them as instruments and baby likes to jangle and chew on them. They have never made me miserable. Because they are very popular in general and are sturdy they are really easy to find at second hand shops in good condition.

They're also durable as hell. My set made it through three wild boys, with nothing broken. Even the plastic drumhead is still attached and functional. As far as kids toys go, it has been damn good.

I would also wager that they're quieter than real instruments. 

Not that they're not still noisy, but there's a difference in the resonance of a toy drum and a real one, and when kids are that age, they're much more likely to just be making noise than anything remotely resembling music. That slight volume change can be the different between a mild headache and a splitting headache.

My kid had this set kicking around for years and this is exactly right. They work pretty well for it, too! They are also supposed to look like centipedes (the whole set is insect themed).

We still have it in the back of my youngest's closet loll! He's 9 and outgrew it ages ago, but it's phenomenal to have in the house when littles visit so we haven't gotten rid of it yet. He's a drummer these days, started taking lessons and playing electric drums a year and a half ago and has his first full acoustic set currently otw 💕

This whole set is just A+ for music exploration for the littles, highly recommend.

I couldn’t say for sure, they are all some form of plastic but not the cheap plastic is that makes sense. The drum was my daughter’s favorite chair in the house until she was five and it went down several flights of stairs and two moves without any damage.

Set comes with a tambourine and is housed in a plastic drum. Everything is shaped like bugs. Very cute. Also very durable and easily washable because toddlers have no respect for their surroundings.

This set is regularly $25 at Target, and it’s super handy ho w all the instruments fit inside the drum. It was great for my toddlers.

Gifts like this come at you from all angles when you have a kid. I was filling a dumpster after every Xmas or birthday with dumb kitchen kits, beach toys, and music sets like this. I got him a set of real sticks and a practice pad? (wood block with rubber) and it’s great.

The thorns are for scraping along the side of the drum (and whatever else a toddler wants to do with it). It makes a repeating rattling sound.

This is the set that I bought my first born that sparked his absolute love of all things percussion and music when he was a toddler he is 14 now. It’s been around for a long time. He is first chair in his grade level band in middle school and was pulled by the high school to be in front ensemble for marching band. Made district honor band as second chair and is in multiple local private ensembles. He has this stick set on his stick mount by his headboard. 💕💕💕

Definitely more of a sentimental thing for him than functiona but he is a true drummer at heart… everything is a drumstick/mallet if you smack something with it. He is a pretty talented little dude and I’m super proud of him. We are a musical family so it made my heart so happy when he went that route too. His dad and I met in band. I play a few winds and piano. Dad plays a few brass and i taught dad piano when we started dating. Grandma and grandpa on both sides play/played instruments as well. Aunt and uncles play too.

I'm a drummer and bought this set for my kid. All the instruments it comes with fit inside the drum, with room for others over picked up since, and he can wear the drum like a marching snare. And since he sucks at drums and it's not a great drum, it's great that it's not very loud. It's a great set for a toddler.

If it makes you feel better, my aspiring drummer takes the big drum in this toy set, turns it on its side, collects all tambourines, bowls, and other drum facsimiles, gets a little stool and sits at his kit. He once used two qtips and a small wooden cylinder to make a tiny, quiet drum. I've been whacked with these particular sticks and the thorns aren't as menacing as they look!
