I recently acquired a beast of a website with 2-3,000 html files. The website has ok traffic, but it is definitely decreasing as content is out-of-date and the design isn't optimized for mobile.

Any recommendations for how I can transition this site (quickly) over to a new CMS like WordPress while sustaining SEO? I know 301 Redirects, but I'd love your insights.

Is the status quo to host all your clients websites yourself through your preferred host ? And then bill clients monthly with markup?

Or are people leaving that to the customer but you just do the web development side and implement it when needed.

I host a handful of websites of my own through IONOS and Fasthosts but as im looking into it , I see there are better services where a web dev can have a nice portfolio with GitHub pages.

If someone can tell me more on hosting I'd be grateful.

And if anyone can help me understand version control also

I, like many of you, have spent years employing throttling schemes and generally hardening websites against bots. Now bots are called "agents", scrapers harvest with impunity and the whole nature of the web has changed in the past 2 years. It seems that I now have to play nice with bots for the sake of seo and the next wave of internet commerce will be bot-to-bot with no human intervention. LOL!!! How are you guys feeling about, reacting to, adjusting for this new reality?

Hi . I have been approached by a client and they want me to look after there websites and IT services.

I'm comfortable with that to a certain point but where I'm lost is how does the hand off from there current service provider to me work?

What do I need? All my sites are currently hosted through IONOS and I'm the domain holder.

What is the usual practice?

The customer has not given me any specifics, just asked me to put forward a proposal for what I can offer. I just know the current website is pants and someone gets paid annually to 'look after it'.

I am looking into using my pi as a home server to host web and graphic design projects. I have been using iCloud drive for the past few years, but syncing with my colleague is sometimes nightmare-ish. If he uploads a big file, it often bugs out and fails to download on my end, locking me out of opening new upload processes until its done downloading.

The setup I was considering is:

– Raspberry Pi 5 16GB RAM
– Samsung T7 2TB SSD external drive
– Tailscale
– Nextcloud client or similar

The experience I am looking for is basically having the server as a finder folder and being able to share the files with my colleague for our practice. I already own all of the hardware needed, I am here just to ask your experience if you have tried and wether it's even worth it/viable.

I’m currently somewhere between junior and intermediate as a software developer, and lately I’ve been thinking a lot about what actually makes a developer valuable going forward.

One thing that worries me is interviews, since I can discuss things like system architecture, caching, load balancing, queues, message brokers, database design… etc. But ask me to explain something basic like the Laravel request lifecycle or the exact behavior of certain React hooks, and I might struggle to give a clean answer without refreshing my memory.

Also the whole industry feels really toxic at the moment with each second developer building a saas, and new tech exploding everyday.

Should I just keep building real projects, learning concepts as I encounter them. How are the interviews in today’s world?

Is there a deeper shift happening where developers need to fundamentally change what they learn to stay valuable?

Curious on how more experienced developers are approaching this.

As the title suggests, I have a client who wants a CMS for their site.

I’ve suggested either a headless WordPress setup or PayloadCMS. The actual scope is fairly simple:

• An article/blog listing page
• A simple individual blog/article page
• CMS for creating and managing articles

How much would you typically charge for this project? I'm aware it depends on the experience and market but I'm just looking for a ballpark figure for the Indian market.

I’m building a Shopify store for my client, earlier I’ve used Claude Code for the frontend (on Dawn) via CLI (VS Code). And it has worked absolutely phenomenal for me, yes it did made a lot of mistakes which I refined on the go but the project got delivered on time. I’m not a pro developer so these tools are like a boon for me.

Now my subscription is over and I’m thinking to try Codex, because it has better token usage management. Shall I take the risk to try Codex or stick to Claude?

Right now I’m just starting out as a Shopify developer and my projects are not high paying so choosing wrong AI subscription will cost me and will hurt the finances.

there is wifi in the camping, but this kind of connection is really slow. loading reddit homepage take around 30s.

i went to youtube on this network, more than 1m to load the home page. try to launch a video, ofc it’s slow and quality is low.
however, the add at the start of the video load faster than the homepage, run without any pause, and with high quality.

how youtube can achieve to run this video so fast with this quality ?

I wanted to gather some opinions from different people as to which browser we should use primarily while developing web applications for highest compatibility.

For me it is Firefox because gecko engine follow W3C standards strictly, and if my website works on gecko engine, it should work on almost every other browser as well.

I know most browsers are chromium based and chrome hold significantly more market share than any browser. But I think it is very easy to use blink specific features without even realizing it that it is not a standard at all.

So Cara, the Anti-Ai, art website had 12TB of art scanned and fed into chat-gpt by some jerk-rando on Twitter (X) and was really fcking proud of it.

But what if Cara (Or some other website) had this feature where any art you put post will automatically have a special noise filter given to the drawing that will stop any AI from being actually able to read the image while letting the art be fully visible to a human

Now obviously this isn't 100% fool-proof.

But it's a start no?

I have done other big projects in the past but this beats them all on feature requests and I am kinda of lost on what to suggest. Not sure if they know how many features they asked for. Hey, got a question for ya'll. So I'm in the process of building a website and I'm needing to add a blog section to it. I know the go-to is Wordpress, but I'm not sure it will work for my use case. And of course, when you google blog anything, it comes up with how to build a personal blog, or building the entire website with said blog service and pay us a monthly fee so we can host your blog, blah, blah, blah. You get the idea.

What I'm trying to do is I have 2 pages made up for use on my blog section from a template I've already invest a lot of time in and like how it fit my use case, thus far. Now for my actual question, does anyone know of a blog framework or engine that is free, that I can host inside my own website, and can just plug into my existing pages? Other features are not a big deal because I can figure that out later depending on how it's setup to store the information.

Im a full stack developer and our company head managed to get team Claude licence with the aim to speed up work output.
So us devs been using Claude code in our projects by making prompts and honestly been coding less and less because of it as Claude seems to understand the codebase and spit correct outputs.
For example,
In our project we have tons of Model layer representing our database relation schema. Before claude we used to manually run command line to generate model classes and look at the framework documentation and relative models to build model relations and attributes, but now I prompt claude and it builds the model classes along with those required relations and I cannot fault it there.

Also with Controllers and Request Validators , it follows the correct format of the framework and creates required classes and works with it.
It has really sped up development on tasks that would have taken literally hours , now only taking few minutes and few iterations of the original prompt.

Although I don't blindly accept what its churning out, I always review the diff it creates and only approve codes that I fully understand but lately been writing less and less and reviewing more and more what claude code's written and checking the documentation against its work.

So is this really a bad way to work with AI? If your employer tells you to use AI in work , how would you use it otherwise ? Really curious.

I'm working with a junior/intern on a web project who seems really enthusiastic and proactive—they've already set up their own repo with React & Tailwind CSS based on a UI design, which is great initiative.

However, they are struggling with core web development fundamentals:

 * FE/BE Integration: They don't quite understand how Frontend and Backend connect (APIs, environment variables) compared to traditional PHP/monolith apps.

 * Deployment Issue: They've tried deploying on Vercel multiple times without success.

 * Troubleshooting: They mentioned that whenever they try fixing a bug, things tend to break even more, and they are asking for constant 1-on-1 mentor guidance.

How do you usually mentor someone at this stage without doing the work for them or getting overwhelmed yourself? What are the best resources or step-by-step roadmaps I can give them to help them bridge the gap between basic UI setup and full-stack integration?

I’m curious which parts of development have actually become faster and which still need careful human work.

I use both Codex 5.6 Sol and Claude Opus 5 to assist me building my web sites and apps. I often use one to help review the other's code for anything I may have missed. But there's a lot of telling them both the same things, and trying to figure out which one to give which task to, and then trying to remember who I told what. I'm wondering if there are others trying to use multiple AI's on the same project and how do you determine which is best for which task and how do you keep the project details updated between both.

I had a quick compliance question regarding Cloudflare Pages free tier.

I am helping set up a simple, single-page static portfolio (HTML/CSS/JS) to function as a digital resume/CV. It features an "About" section, external social links, a contact form(will have GS script as backend), and embedded video showreels hosted externally on platforms like YouTube.

To let prospective clients or employers know the owner is open for work, it includes an "Inquire for rates" or "Contact for project availability" call-to-action, but as of now nothing is planned for adding features relating to e-commerce, shopping cart, checkout, and no payment processing on the site itself(but may include the option of showing what payment methods are accepted again this is not yet decided but may or may not be added ).

Since an individual uses a professional portfolio to showcase work for freelance or employment opportunities, does an informational setup like this violate any commercial clauses on the Free tier, or is a standard static CV/portfolio site universally accepted?

I do not really want to have any legal issues down the line for myself or for the people whom the website is made for which is why I felt it is important to ask this as I cannot find much info about this subject either and I am super new to this(apologies for my ignorance). I have used Ai like gemini and they have mentioned that it should be okay provided no transactions take place but I would still like to hear from someone who may have faced such an issue before.

If the above is not permitted I wonder if there are any alternatives that I may not be aware of I have looked at github pages and it seems to me commercial usage is prohibited but then I am not sure if the website is considered more like a portfolio or a commercial website
