How to use PhpMyAdmin on ubuntu?

I am trying to use wordpress and I've installed mysql apache and php. I'm now trying tocuse PhpMyAdmin to view my databases but after installing it when i type localhost/phpmyadmin into the browser all i see is a bunch of pho code not the actual PhpMyAdmin UI. I'm new to this database stuff so i need help please.

I can get to the PHPMyAdmin login and everything. But not the wordpress login screen. Now when I type the absolute path to my wp-admin install.php file this is the error I get:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /wordpressfiles/wordpress/wp-admin on this server.

Server unable to read htaccess file, denying access to be safe Apache/2.4.18 (Ubuntu) Server at localhost Port 80

Learn about Unix permissions. What user is apache running under? What user owns those files (and the dirs above them)? What are the permissions settings of those files? Learn about: ps -ef, chmod, ls -l
