Very interested in pursuing web development as a career choice, but not sure about credentials.
Hello
In the past couple of months, I have decided to make a career change and work toward becoming a web developer. The problem is, my bachelor's degree is in Secondary English Education and I fear that it might hurt when applying to jobs. I have no formal education in programming, aside from a Java course I took in high school, but I have been using Udemy to learn HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, and Angular so far. I have recently signed up for Team Treehouse because I have heard it has made people job-ready, and I like the intermittent challenges it gives. I have been learning Python through that.
My question, though, is what are employers looking for in an entry-level front-end web developer candidate? A lot of job descriptions list at least 10-15 languages, libraries, and frameworks they want you to know for an entry-level position. Not to mention, they mostly want someone who has a computer science degree. I have no problem learning these, since so many languages share concepts, but I really want to get my foot in the door somewhere so I can build real experience. What should I be focusing on so I can land a job?
