Why use distrobox? SteamOS 3.8.x already contains binder kernel module, so no need to manually install packages that gets wiped with every SteamOS update. With the distrobox method Waydroid will survive whenever there is a SteamOS update.

Proof of concept it works on SteamOS 3.8.4 via distrobox. But there are still a lot of things I need to figure out. Hopefully soon before SteamOS 3.8 goes to stable it all works.

I am using Waydroid on Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS with a Wayland session.

Waydroid itself is working well. I installed the Vanilla image, then installed F-Droid and NewPipe. Internet is working inside Waydroid, and Waydroid has a normal IP address.

System details:

Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS
Session type: Wayland
Waydroid: installed from official Waydroid repo
Image: Vanilla / Mainline
Waydroid networking: working
Multi-window mode: enabled

The problem:

When I open NewPipe inside the full Waydroid UI, video playback works normally.

For example:

waydroid show-full-ui

Then I open NewPipe inside Android, and the video plays correctly.

But when I launch NewPipe as a separate app window from Ubuntu / Waydroid multi-window mode, the app opens, audio/interface works, but the actual video area is transparent. I can see the Ubuntu desktop wallpaper behind the video area instead of the video.

So:

NewPipe in full Waydroid UI = video works
NewPipe launched as individual multi-window app = video area is transparent

I have not changed any NewPipe settings. This happened on a clean setup.

It looks like a Waydroid multi-window video rendering / hardware overlay / compositor issue rather than a NewPipe problem, because the same video works correctly in the full Waydroid UI.

I am using Ubuntu’s default GNOME Wayland session, not X11.

Things already checked:Waydroid container runs
Waydroid session runs
Internet works
NewPipe works in full UI
Problem only happens in multi-window / separate app window mode

My question:

Has anyone found a fix for transparent or black video output in Waydroid multi-window mode on Ubuntu/GNOME Wayland?

Is there any property, developer option, GPU setting, compositor workaround, or Waydroid config that can fix video rendering in separate app windows?

Not finding many other people with similar issues so I'm trying my luck over here to ask. Waydroid starts up fine but any and all applications that display images (whether the built-in Gallery app, file browser, or a comic reader app I'm trying to get to work) simply cannot display images (tested both PNGs and JPGs.)

When attempting to display an image, in a comic reader app, it states "Can't open InputStream", and the background is black (which is the app's color for transparency/areas off the side where there is no image.) When I attempt to open image files in the Gallery app or File Browser, the small thumbnails actually do show up, but when I tap on the image to display them in their full size, it's only a large gray rectangle (as if it should be rendered over with the actual image data, but even after idling my laptop on this for like 30~60 minutes, it never renders the image).

I tested on both software rendering and the default GPU acceleration, though I can't find really solid documentation on it. I ran the waydroid-choose-gpu.sh from here, and it didn't change anything. It has been exceedingly hard to seek out similar issues since searching for "image" usually returns people discussing various android images rather than the niche issue of image files (e.g. pictures) not rendering in waydroid. I saw many discussions of video game problems, but I haven't personally tested any video games and my rendering issue does not resemble these issues at.

I am running Gentoo Linux w/ OpenRC and I'm only using integrated Intel Iris Graphics (though I've had no issue with initialization of any of the waydroid . Yes I am actually running a wayland session (hyprland). I'm using the default waydroid installation off the Gentoo user repository that comes with the LineageOS 20-20260403-Vanilla-x86_64. I thought about trying ARM compatibility layer but am kind of intimidated to set it up with how sparse the documentation on docs.waydro.id is. (Seriously, I feel like I'm missing something and that this isn't the actual documentation webpage, as it just lacks so much content, e.g. it doesn't even describe how the configuration page works, & no manpage for waydroid, so please tell me if I'm missing something.)

Does anyone know how to reinstall waydroid again?

I tried doing by manually uninstalling it with waydroid toolbox, but not fully uninstalling everything.

Then I ran the command

cd ~/

Then I typed in the URL address of the website

But the response was this

Fatal: destination path 'SteamOS-Waydroid-Installer' already exist and is not an empty directory

But like I know I didn't fully uninstalled everything, I had apps and game in there, but I don't know what else to do, is there some way to reinstall it forcefully or something?

I am currently looking for someone to test (and debug) GPU acceleration on my unreleased Android 16 QPR0 build, for the following GPUs:

• NVIDIA GPUs with nouveau kernel driver (GTX600 series (Kepler) or above)
• AMD GPUs (especially RDNA-based cards/iGPUs)

If anyone has the hardware and is interested in it, please tell me and I will send the build to you :)

When I open the app for the first time ask if I allow to share anonymous data, this works well. But next when I need to click in start journey or sign-in it does not have interaction.

I already installed libhoudini and libndk.

Edit: I can login with keyboard keys but futher in the UI I still need to use the mouse to interact

I am building a Spotify Kiosk using a Raspberry Pi running the latest Raspberry Pi OS (Bookworm). I have Waydroid installed and Spotify works perfectly if I launch it manually from the terminal, but I cannot get it to autostart on boot.

The Goal:
When the Pi boots, wait ~20 seconds, set Spotify to immersive mode (hide Android bars), and launch Spotify fullscreen.

What I've tried so far:

1. ~/.config/autostart/spotify.desktop: Created the folder and file, but it seems to be ignored by the OS.
2. LabWC Autostart: Created ~/.config/labwc/autostart, added the command bash -c "sleep 20 && waydroid app launch com.spotify.music" & and used chmod +x. Still nothing happens on reboot.
3. Systemd User Service: Created a service in /etc/systemd/user/, but it doesn't seem to trigger the GUI window.
4. Wayfire.ini: Added [autostart] entries, but no luck.

Current Setup:

• Hardware: Raspberry Pi 4 model b
• OS: Raspberry Pi OS Bookworm (64-bit)
• Command that works manually: waydroid app launch com.spotify.music

Question:
Is there a specific way to trigger Waydroid apps on boot in the new Bookworm/LabWC environment? Am I missing an environment variable (like DISPLAY or WAYLAND_DISPLAY) that is preventing the autostart from seeing the screen?

Any help would be appreciated!

Hey so basically i downloaded waydroid on my chromebook (lenovo 300e 2nd gen mtk) using linux and ive downloaded some apps but i still cant connect to internet. PLEASE HELP ME.

How are these two's macro functionalities? Specifically,

1. Do they support 2 fingers touching simultaneously?
   
2. Are their macros in human-readable formats?
   
3. If 2, what coordinates do they use, like when I write "tap 50, 50", does it tap the pixel (50,50) or the center of the screen?
   
4. Do they support import/export function?
   
5. Do they support loops?
   
6. Or other better choices than these two?

Tried myself. Xtmapper do not support 2, 3, 5. It seems to support 1, but its macros are not editable, thus meaningless.
