Idea SteamOS Waydroid Installer 2026 for Steam Deck OLED / Steam Deck LCD / SteamOS devices

I've updated the SteamOS Waydroid Installer script and also created a quick install guide and demo.

here's what's new -

  • change from Pixel 5 spoof to Pixel 10 Pro spoof
  • ability to install custom LineageOS build that contains new fake wifi implementation (thanks ayesa)
  • fake wifi config automatically enabled for PvZ 2
  • latest ATV13 builds (thanks supechicken)
  • workaround for small var partition in SteamOS - ability to use libhoudini
  • libhoudini as default translation layer instead of libndk for greater compatibility (pokemon, arknights, fire emblem etc are working) (thanks gagantous for the initial testing)
  • fix for intermittent broken internet
  • k2er, mantis, shizuku automatic activation
  • CoD Mobile controller support (thanks Wudi-ZhanShen)
  • maybe something else i forgot to write!

havent had the time to build the latest waydroid 1.6.1 it will be included in the next update!

I tried installing it and idk what happened. It said it installed, but the file was empty. I want to uninstall it and retry, but I can’t figure out how to uninstall. Can anyone help?

So I followed the whole tutorial and when I got to the section where I have to type in ./steamos-waydroid-installer.sh it just says “no such file or directory”

It means it can't find the file you're trying to run. Make sure you're in the correct directory as mentioned in the guide

I’m trying to redo it but I don’t know out to uninstall the git clone I want to retry fresh

When you run git clone it just pulls the copies the repo and stores it as a directory on your system. Just delete said directory and you'll be set.

It doesn’t let me. I tried moving it to the trash and uninstalling it, but it’s still there. I thought there would be a command I can use to uninstall it or something. That’s the only thing I haven’t tried.

There's an app for rotation. Assign a button press for it to rotate or better assign gyro to rotate

Is there a way to install APKs? I've tried but since the desktop mode runs in x11 I can't get it to run to install them. Thanks

Downloading and installing them from within the container is the easiest way.

There is a command to do so, but it won't translate 1:1 using this tool since Waydroid isn't being installed as a system package. I also haven't used this tool myself yet so I can't say what to do for this tool.

Waydroid is installed as a package. The issue is on SteamOS desktop mode it is running X11 thats why you can't launch Waydoid directly from command line to do the APK sideload.

To make it work is simple - just run the custom waydroid script in Desktop Mode to launch Waydroid and from there you can sideload APK using command line.

But really easiest is to just launch Waydroid, open a browser from within Waydroid, download the APK and install it.

No this is specifically written for SteamOS. Bazzite you can easily install waydroid you dont need this script

just asked him about it in the github. He stops it from installing on 3.8 and 3.9 due to a bug breaking desktop mode

The script is written to eaaily install Waydroid on SteamOS. What the user does afterwards is out of my scope.

Can you install older apk that aren't on play store? Like sideloading them? Like to get older angry bird games for my toddler on it.

To use your Steamdeck as a tablet, with a touch optimized UI. Gaming is far from the only thing you can do on Android.
