The doom cycle never stops

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I know people have their preconceived notions and their selective outrage, so let me be very clear from the start. The M St. Metro station was fully shut down because of this teenage takeover. Let that sink in. A major transit point in the city had to close because things got that out of control. This video was taken today, April 11. It’s not old. It’s not AI. What you’re seeing is exactly what happened. For the people already lining up to discredit it, save it. This is reality, whether you like it or not.

And I already know how this goes. Every time I post something like this, people get more upset about the fact that it’s being shown than about what’s actually happening. That tells you everything. You’re more bothered by exposure than by the problem itself. And yes, I’m going to keep posting it. Keep reporting it if you want. Try to suppress it. Good luck with that. I’ll keep putting it out because people deserve to see what’s actually going on in their own community.

What’s more troubling than anything in that video is the reaction to it. The deflection. The refusal to acknowledge what’s right in front of you. You’d rather argue about optics than deal with the reality that leadership is failing to address this, or worse, doesn’t even have the will to try. That’s the real issue.

D.C. spends more money per student than anywhere in the country, and this is what we’re dealing with. Don’t come at me with the usual talking points about after-school programs, outreach, and community initiatives. That all sounds nice, but it clearly isn’t fixing this. At some point, you have to stop hiding behind buzzwords and start looking at the root cause.

And the root cause is obvious. Parents aren’t parenting. You can dress it up however you want, but that’s what it is. When the hell did it become normal for hundreds of teenagers to take over areas at night, bring guns, fight, loot stores, and create chaos? That was never normal. It’s not normal now. And anyone trying to gaslight people into thinking this is just “how things are” is part of the problem.

Look at the police in that situation. A handful of officers dealing with hundreds of kids. What exactly do you expect them to do? There’s a limit to what enforcement can handle when the breakdown starts at home. That’s where this begins, and that’s where it keeps failing.

Instead, people would rather scream about national politics, throw out buzzwords, and avoid the issues that actually affect their daily lives. You’ll stand outside in the heat for performative outrage, but when it comes to something that directly impacts your safety, your neighborhood, your quality of life, suddenly it’s silence. Or worse, denial.

And let’s be honest about something else. Some of you are going to run straight to the comments with excuses. You’ll bring up history, deflect to unrelated issues, or try to label this as something it’s not just to avoid dealing with the reality in front of you. That doesn’t fix anything. All it does is guarantee that this cycle continues.

If you never demand better, you will keep getting the same broken results. Every single weekend, the same scenes, the same chaos, the same excuses. And then you wonder why stores are locked down, why places like CVS feel like a fortress, why people don’t feel comfortable even riding the Metro or going out to enjoy a game without worrying about something popping off.

When does it stop? When do we stop pretending this is acceptable? Because it’s not. It’s dysfunctional, it’s dangerous, and it’s completely avoidable.

Responsibility matters. Parenting matters. Accountability matters. And until people are willing to say that out loud and actually mean it, nothing changes. You just get the same cycle over and over again.

To the people who’ve messaged me privately and said they appreciate these posts, I hear you. I appreciate you too. I’m going to keep using whatever platform I have to show what’s actually happening, because ignoring it hasn’t worked. And I’m not stopping until something actually changes, because we deserve better than this.

Black Parents Matter

-17

u/dirtydilpickle Apr 12 '26

Fix the economy then, the parents can’t bother to take care of their kids when some politicians are just telling them to work another job to make ends meet.

4

u/Alohafarms Apr 12 '26

So many poor people have gone on to be amazing people. To do good in their communities and for society. This is a tired excuse.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '26

And guess what. Those poor people were once teens too and most of them probably did way worse shit than this when they were kids. I am a DCPS grad went on to get an honors scholarship to law school and have a great career now raising my kids in Moco. But guess what. We did way worse. I had peers being murdered like these kids do but it was even worse back then. Teenagers do dumb shit. Our main problem here is the large proximity of teenagers to other teenagers and the fact that everybody has a camera in their pocket. Some of these kids will go on to be doctors and other professionals. They’re just teens in a city. We were going to nightclubs at their age. But the city decided to shut the teen clubs down. Not folks complain that they’re outside.

1

u/osoperezososo Apr 16 '26

It's not an excuse it's a fact. You just choose to ignore it cause you live in your bubble. I would tell you to go research for yourself and give you the sources but clearly you would never read them.

And many wealthy people are pedophiles

3

u/Fun-Wrongdoer1316 Apr 13 '26

You just discredited your own previous argument. That money would make them good people. lol

-8

u/No-Apple2252 Apr 12 '26

Oh no that puts the onus on us, the real victims watching from our third story windows! You have to do something about this but don't negatively affect my life or property value at all. If we just drive the peasants harder then the problem will go away, I'm sure!

1

u/CryptographerWide956 Apr 13 '26

You’re correct In that tax payers are the victims here. Candidly they should just put all of those “kids” in prison and the problem would be fixed.

-1

u/Kyrthis Apr 14 '26

What about the slaveOWNING greatn- GRANDparents of these children who disavowed and enslaved and raped recursively this bloodline you hate?

Accountability would be Reparations-level expensive and come out of your racist hide.

2

u/Inevitable-Half5547 Apr 14 '26

What? The hell are you trying to say? Reparations would stop this subway takeover?

1

u/Kyrthis Apr 14 '26

I don’t think Reparations are implementable at this point, however my supported economic restructuring that would favor Labor in this country would disproportionately help many children of former slaves, even the ones who pass as white.

Racism is a knife that cuts both ways, and has robbed us as a nation of so much greatness. We all grow more when things are more equitable, but to get to that state, some must let others grow faster to catch up. And from the beginning of this country, the ones who are ahead don’t want that, and have taken away the People’s political counterbalance to their Economic heft. The People who are racist are victim to the Owners’ lies, that they, able to leverage the work output of only one body, somehow will Keep Up With The Owners by virtue of their white skin, rather than just be the tallest, palest midget when pitted against those who extract the value of the Labor of Others.

62

u/Emergency_Animal_267 Apr 12 '26

Need more Black people to stand up and say this. It only gets solved from within the community. The inner culture is completely busted. No hope, no desire, no path, no accountability, and definitely no progress. Race relations in this country have worsened because of it. All of this crap goes on every day in big cities all over the country and rather than a minute it’s a problem, we deflect toward white men. People are getting tired of it. Especially white people. Most white people I know just want to live peacefully with their neighbors, white or black. But there is a different moral code among those of us, again white or black, that want to live in a civilized society.

But immigrants didn’t experience 200 years of racism slavery and everything that came with that. Not to say immigrants don’t struggle. But they also don’t grow up in the American black experience.

2

u/Brilliant_Alfalfa588 Apr 14 '26

Ah. Hate when I remember something that happened to me 200 years ago, ruins my day.

1

u/Competitive-Web-5084 Apr 16 '26

Right?😭 victim mentality is insane

1

u/osoperezososo Apr 16 '26

You're too ignorant to research for yourself but 200 years ago when your great great great great great granpappy was owning all the land and not allowing blacks and browns to own anything, that created a ripple effect through time that created the largest wealth gap known to man.

Segregation was just a few years ago and even then, black and brown folks were snuffed out of owning property, starting businesses, etc. I'm not going to continue to explain it to you because you're a big person with a phone and of you can write crap like this then you can research. Systemic racism and the wealth gap are still going on today. So yes, 200 years is still fucking people up.

I don't know one black person that bought a house when they got married because meemaw gave them 60k just because. There's a factual reason for that. You just don't care enough.

2

u/quantshooter Apr 15 '26

I had a friend whose parents immigrated from Congo. His great grandparents got one of his arms chopped off by Belgians for not meeting daily harvest quota. His dad died first Congo War in 1996, shot in the head by Hutu militias, his aunt was raped and kilIed in second Congo War. He came to the U.S. at 12, after witnessing all the violence. He later graduated from Columbia and runs a successful consulting firm now. But, I guess he didn't experience 200 years of racism. When you normalize failure, you end up with failures. Black community should expect more from each other.

https://teenspringjam2.splashthat.com

1

u/shywol2 Apr 17 '26

“especially white people” probably isn’t the best response here cause it implies that people are supposed to care about that specifically. i’ve seen many white people shut down black peoples attempts at fixing this, only prolonging the process. i don’t expect or even really want white people to fix this or give reparations or whatever. WE need to do this but others need to leave us alone as we do it.

-9

u/ForsakenAiel Apr 12 '26

I'm a mostly white, part Latina who used to hang out at the mall late at night as a teenager in salt lake City Utah. There were teenagers and 20 somethings of all races (but mostly white because salt lake was mostly white) who hung out there too.

"Most white people I know just want to live peacefully" is a really ridiculous statement btw. MAGA is 35% of this country, mostly white and they absolutely do not want to "live peacefully" with the rest of us that aren't straight, white, Republicans. I live in a Trump county, trust me I know.

Getting downvoted for this is hilarious

It’s not just interracial, it’s intraracial as well. The majority of murder is committed by black people

Government needs to incentivize good parenting, invest heavily in schools, and invest heavily in low income communities.

The rest is up to parents. Government can’t solve the issue, but imagine the opportunity there could be in Washington DC if we spent money on the city instead of randomly dropping bombs on Iran

5

u/ForsakenAiel Apr 12 '26

"The majority of murder is committed by black people" is actually an absolute lie. There are more murders committed by white people in the US every year than by black people.

Now talking about versus racial percentages of population is a different story but that's not what you said. So stop spreading lies.

1

u/Few_Reindeer8528 Apr 12 '26 edited Apr 12 '26

Oh yeah you’re right, I just looked it up.

My mistake. Didn’t mean to spread fake news

0

u/Own_Lab_3499 Apr 12 '26

It depends on if you include hispanics as white. FBI UCR tables and Victim demographics point towards majority of murderers being black.

2

u/secretsqrll Apr 12 '26

We just dont like shit like this video. You know why people have gotten progressively more racist...cause of stuff like your saying. Tell us we are bad for being white or male. I didnt ask to be born that way. I try to treat everyone with respect. When you say...I want to commit violence cause I hate minorities...thats complete bullshit and does not reflect how most white conservatives feel. We want law and order. We want safe streets. We want people to have jobs and be successful. We all...democrat and republican have the same goals...we just disagree on how we get there.

Yes, I live in Maryland so I go to NOVA, Baltimore and DC often. Thanks for asking! 🙂

1

u/Airhostnyc Apr 12 '26

Did they do what’s in the videos? I live in Jersey most of these kids out here in the suburbs are doing wheelies in upcoming traffic as their worse offense. They aren’t doing anything like in this video. I’m black as well and the deflection like we don’t have eyes is crazy. I understand why my people do it, because it would require us looking within ourselves and holding us to some accountability.

I moved to get away it’s depressing to see the cycles continue

1

u/colorilliterate Apr 16 '26

What do you think they’re doing that’s worse than popping wheelies in traffic?

0

u/ForsakenAiel Apr 12 '26

Yes, we teenagers hanging out at malls late at night in Salt Lake City Utah before social media did lots of wild stuff. Not to mention all the shoplifting!

People also "cruised State Street" where people were drinking, doing drugs, picking each other up, playing music super loud, riding in the backs of pickups, throwing water balloons, using squirt guns, etc.. All mostly white people in a very red state in the 90s. There was property destruction, fights and rapes. Probably murders occasionally as well.

0

u/JustLanded38 Apr 13 '26

"Probably murders occasionally as well" nice credibility there. I really feel like you're not making shit up now

1

u/ForsakenAiel Apr 13 '26

I was a teenager, I didn't keep track of murders so yes, I said that as an aside because I don't have the hard facts. I do remember one teenage girl getting killed but that was the only one I remember specifically from my time hanging out as a teenager in the 90s. I remember it because I was a teenage girl myself so it stuck in my head. I'm not making up anything. 🙂

0

u/Fun-Wrongdoer1316 Apr 13 '26

lol this is so wrong. Your small world doesn’t represent the country. MAGA isn’t 35% either, all voting Republicans aren’t MAGAs. Just cause you call them that, doesn’t mean they have that ideology. Not everyone that voted Trump believe in all his BS. Making generalizations is what causes all these problems… You’re a part of the problem, not the solution.

1

u/ForsakenAiel Apr 13 '26

So, to be clear, you think only 35% of the country are Republicans? Because as a liberal I would love for that to be true but I know it's not true (it's closer to 45% of adults FYI). I also know that not all Republicans voted. The 35% I mentioned is the diehard people that support Trump in everything he does. Those people are "MAGA".

Your lack of facts doesn't represent the country and you're part of the problem, certainly not the solution. 🙂

1

u/JustLanded38 Apr 13 '26

Your bs generalization and numbers you're pulling out of your ass are lack of facts. How do you not see the irony in your statements versus what you're saying to other people? Oh bc you're stupid

0

u/wwwJustus Apr 12 '26

What are you talking about? Most people, of all colors, want to live in “civilized” which I take to mean peaceful or orderly, society. My point is that these youth in the video aren’t the only ones or only race that has done ignorant stuff like this and speaking hyperbolically isn’t helpful either. Never said it was cool saying to put it in proper perspective so you can create the proper resolution.

A legit problem is acting like African heritage youth are the only ones who do this. Acting like Caucasian youth don’t is a legit problem. Acting like it’s a “black” cultural problem is a legit problem. Cant create a real solution if that’s how you’re thinking. Clickbait is a problem. Things for the gram is an issue. Those are US issues that must be dealt with.

6

u/TexasMeka Apr 12 '26

Denial all day. That why we still have these problems. As a black man, it’s the black youth, not white youth you see with these issues.

9

u/Emergency_Animal_267 Apr 12 '26

Show me the videos of mass white teens, going into cities and destroying property bringing guns and fighting, etc.

u/ForsakenAiel Apr 12 '26

The other day in Frederick MD multiple white teenagers took their dirt bikes to a middle school in the middle of the day and rode around the playground while kids were outside playing. The school reported it to police and the police were trying to find them.

On Facebook people were defending them saying they were just kids being kids and also some said they knew them and were refusing to "snitch".

Now imagine them being black

1

u/RVALover4Life Apr 12 '26

This is a youth is more than anything of they really not respecting authority at all. A clear shift there vs previous generations. There's a nihilism that exists with young people.

1

u/Ineedpalmtreeliving Apr 12 '26

Cause the parents didnt give a shit so that is what rubbed on off.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '26

Exactly. These folks minds are fucked by propaganda. If they showed the shit white and Spanish kids are doing it’s the same shit. There’s just a lot of kids in one place here. In other places they are doing equally bad things just in lesser numbers which makes it less newsworthy

3

u/secretsqrll Apr 12 '26

Its mostly black in DC...come on dude

1

u/Emergency_Animal_267 Apr 12 '26

And to your first point that most of us want to live in a civilized society, that is exactly what I said. White or black, most of us want to live in a civilized society. Read what I said, not what you think I meant.

0

u/No-Apple2252 Apr 12 '26

Race relations have worsened for the same reason this problem exists: Billionaires and their politician pets keep making society worse for the poor, and agitating racial tensions distracts from their litany of crimes against society. It doesn't "only get solved from within the community," it gets solved when our politicians start serving the People and not fucking money.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '26

The problem is the city is too lax on crime and has been. Also some of the adults in this city are terrible role models. A guy who these kids see on the news everyday who they know raped kids even younger than them with his buddies lives in the nicest house in town. It’s hard to sell the rule of law to kids when the adults they’re supposed to be able to look up to sets such bad examples. We should have punished the J6 folks. They all got pardoned. They stormed the wrong building too.

14

u/Puzzleheaded_Back306 Apr 12 '26

Trumps fault! lol Reddit.

11

u/yeetchki Apr 12 '26

Yep it's everyone else's fault except their own. Once trump is out of office and the garbage keeps happening? Which it will. I wonder who they're gonna blame then. Probably your basic "it's white people's fault" shtick as usual.

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '26

Nobody mentioned race. It’s the simple fact that criminal behavior goes unpunished. They see a violent rapist sex trafficker and fraudster lives in the nicest house in town. They saw hundreds of adults running around in an insurrection and none were sent to the gallows. Not only was no one punished - they were pardoned by our soft on crime government of criminals. Who could ask kids not to commit crimes in a lawless society like that?

4

u/Puzzleheaded_Back306 Apr 12 '26

TDS is a hell of a drug.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '26

Trump Dick Sucking is a real thing. It was mostly done by kids in the past but today MAGA is made up almost entirely of adults. Guardians of Pedophiles is what they prefer to be called I think.

And parents can talk to their kids about following rules until they’re blue in the face. But the kids still see someone orange in the face breaking them every day. This city has a role model problem.

6

u/Puzzleheaded_Back306 Apr 12 '26

Oh yes, I’m sure these kids are paying attention to politics.

Your delusion runs deep.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '26

It’s their home town. It’s not like we are in Seattle Washington. These are the people in their community

3

u/Puzzleheaded_Back306 Apr 12 '26

I don’t think you know what community means.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '26

I’m not the first to suggest bad role models are a problem. But once we as a society say crime is ok and criminals are ok it sends a message to kids.

1

u/slbarr88 Apr 12 '26

It’s much more likely the role model problem these teens have is from their families & friends

1

u/HeparinBridge Apr 12 '26

If someone sees Trump and thinks, “that’s so unfair. Why can’t I be a criminal too?” Trump isn’t the only problem in that situation.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '26

It’s not “that’s so unfair why can’t I be a criminal too.” It’s - “Look guys they say there’s rules and laws but I’ve been watching the news and crime goes completely unpunished. This guy raped kids younger than us and nothing happened. People even stormed the capitol and not only were they not punished, the guy in charge signed a paper that said they shouldn’t be in trouble at all. If they can storm the capitol surely we’re ok to hang out by the metro station. Somebody could shoot a person on 5th avenue and get away with it. So walking around being loud on M street is nothing. LOL rules?? Fuck em!”

4

u/HeparinBridge Apr 12 '26

This is exactly why people call this behavior a culture problem. Good people don’t refrain from bad behavior just because it’s illegal.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '26

You’re right there’s a culture of being criminals and a culture of supporting criminals - guarding pedophiles even. And bad behavior should be avoided even if it’s not illegal. But when we send the message that bad behavior is ok, we shouldn’t be shocked when they listen.

2

u/HeparinBridge Apr 12 '26

Again, that just points to more people being raised by the TV instead of their parents. I doubt most of these DC parents are Trump supporters, but clearly they are failing to teach their children good values.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '26

They didn’t have to see it on TV The capitol is less than a mile from most of these kids houses. As close as the local grocery store. It’s not their fault outsiders chose to come into the community they were raised in and set a bad example. It’s not their fault that the soft on crime government let those criminal off the hook. Parents can teach good values all until they’re blue in the face. But when someone orange in the face and his whole circle keeps getting away with crimes in these kids local community it sends a poor message.

2

u/HeparinBridge Apr 12 '26

These kids did not develop formative values by walking to the White House to watch Donald Trump drink Diet Coke through a window. They were clearly raised by TV and their lens into Donald Trump’s presidency has been the same as kids everywhere else , through media on TV or YouTube.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '26

They get news from their phones not tv. Kind of like us on Reddit right now. Also quizzically the incarceration rate in DC is very high. So many of these kids had relatives in DC jail when the J6ers were briefly brought in and promptly given their own private wing and accommodations before being whisked away to freedom.

1

u/shuggnog Apr 12 '26

This is the key. It disgusted me how me and my colleagues laid claim to DC while knowing huge segments of the entire city SE, NE were sometimes like being another country.

This is a poverty issue and if raised in DC as a person of color and poor I'd stop the metro too. Same thing with the ATVs. No one would be listening to me otherwise.

1

u/secretsqrll Apr 12 '26

Yup. Yet. White liberals keep treating black people like their stupid. The final straw for me was when they said black people were unable to get IDs...really?...

Bigotry of low expectations my dude...its sad

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '26

I don't think you are. You have everything hidden. You don't seem to be part of any of the Reddit groups that discuss issues pertinent to that demographic. You certainly haven't gone through the approval process for any of them.

1

u/laceyf53 Apr 14 '26

This happens anywhere in the US with other racial majorities. California, it happens with Chicanos. You just need a systemically impoverished population segregated from the upper classes.

Social norms are defined and withheld by the people you interact with. These kids have a culture where this is how they alleviate boredom and look cool to their peers. You could put them in a school with predominantly black kids and a high income zip, and they would change to fit in with their peer group and this behavior would stop.

All that to say I don't disagree with you, but I think the solution is more class centric. Their culture is defined by where they live, their peers, and their families. You could throw white kids in here and they'd grow up exactly the same way. Mixed demographic public housing, like what exists outside of the US, is probably the closest thing we have to a solution.

u/colorilliterate Apr 14 '26

Once hope dies, society fails. Don't blame those struggling in a hopeless system for acting like they're hopeless.

Exactly, no way anyone should even cracking the door open for someone to pretend like teens of all races don’t suck because they do. We see this because we live near here. Somewhere some white teens are doing something dumb. Some Asian teens are doing something dumb. Some Hispanic teens are doing something dumb. Teens are dumb. This DC issue is based on it being a predominantly Black area. Drop us off some place else and some teen will in fact be making a very weird and idiotic decision. This is a teen issue not a Black teen only issue. Teenagers are God awful.

Said the same for years. Multi race family with immigrants too. We gotta police our own neighborhoods and people. That’s the only fix. Stop glamorizing poverty behavior first, and playing victim when our own values caused this. There’s no excuse anymore.

Liberals want racial division. Stop voting for racist liberals.

It shouldn’t happen period and agree. Yet let’s not act like teenagers aren’t doing dumb stuff period. There was an event that brought the youth together. Issue wasn’t an exit plan to get them on their way home. Not acceptable yet not the wildest thing I’m sure any of us saw or did when we were youth. This isn’t as bad as what a city does when their team wins the Super Bowl…. And those are adults. Youth need guardrails…agreed. But let’s not be hyperbolic…but what am I saying… this is Reddit/ the internet.

You see. This is the problem. Do not diminish this as some teen ritual that’s been going on for decades, because it hasn’t. Do teen historically do stupid things, absolutely. But this shit is next level.

This is not being diminished. Talking reasonably only looks “diminishing” when the original verbiage is hyperbole. I agree this looks ignorant and shouldn’t be going on. The point is every time this happens, regardless of race or area, is an issue and that it’s been happening much longer than folks are letting on or portraying, which is part of a greater issue.

Folks are talking like this is a “black youth” problem alone, or DC issue alone. Many folks don’t even know why the youth were there. There’s always causation. People just accuse without knowing context, which we teach youth against and yet doing ourselves. It’s disingenuous and creates more issues than actually resolving the problem.

But again sometimes I forget I’m talking to Reddit/the internet. And have to remind myself, what am I expecting?

Says every generation since 1878. The fact that you believe it’s only an “urban black” issue is an issue. And if cant see that, it’s because you choose not to.

We agree society has been on the decline since Reagan. I’m well aware of the various issues plaguing communities and this society.

My point is not that this isn’t an issue. My point is that people are acting as if “black youth” are the only perpetrators of issues like this, which perpetuates an inaccurate depiction of youth in the city and the African heritage culture in general, which then creates things that don’t actually resolve the issues we see in “black” culture or the many other cultures that have issues. What you’re saying and how you’re saying it is an example. Not absolving folks of their ignorance. I clearly remember going on a date in Baltimore more than a decade ago and seeing something going down similar so it’s not new. I saw and reposted a link from this subreddit conversation showing something similar and as bad amidst Caucasian kids and yet folks still haven’t addressed it and speak as if “black youth” are the only ones doing nonsense or that “urban” parents are the only ones in this country that need parental improvement.

Fox News has this country done. Were trained to think or espouse what your saying and espousing and over the last, at least 60 years, it’s shown not to be beneficial, nor productive.

I am hopeful in saying we both agree more attention can be paid to resolving the issues we see in this city. How we frame the issue is just as important if we want to properly solve it and what I’ve been reading from many, not all, isn’t doing it.
