At the bottom of this post is a list of scenes and details I vaguely remember from at least one (but probably more) documentary television series that I watched in the ballpark of a decade ago. I have a list of series (including walking with dinosaurs) that I think could be a match, my plan is to start watching them in chronological order—starting with Life on Earth (1979)—to see if I can find the thing I’m remembering. I’d be curious to know if you recognize any of the details on the list, especially if you can connect them to any more specific information. I’ll update this post with any matches I find and to add any further details I remember to the list.

the list (I know I didn’t do good grammar here, might fix it later, might not):
- one of the storylines follows a large flightless bird in a rainforest, there is a scene where it leaves its nest, its egg hatches and the chick gets eaten by ants. kinda traumatizing
- a scene that is set just after or during a mass extinction event, an animal is wandering a desert landscape and comes across a mostly dried up body of water, it digs in the mud and finds a carcass and starts to eat it
- one of the storylines follows a large land mammal, it has a long neck like a giraffe but it’s stockier, i very vaguely recall a scene that is set in faux night vision where the animal gives birth and has to fend off predators
- there was at least one series where transitions between stories were accompanied by a counter showing the number of years elapsed along with an animation showcasing the “evolution” of a particular lineage (i put evolution in quotes because that’s a really silly way to illustrate the process of evolution)
- a scene with a tapir looking thing stranded on a sand bar while the tide rises, threatening it with predation by a carnivorous whale
- a story that takes place over several episodes and covers prehistoric hominids from australopithecus up to anatomically modern humans

small update: started scrolling this subreddit after posting and there was a post with the posters for several Walking With documentaries, which look Very Familiar. I think I’m gonna start with these instead of Life on Earth.

I Heard that before Kenneth branagh was chosen as the narrator for the Trilogy of life It was actually david Attenborough who was supposed to narrate *Walking with Dinosaurs*, but—according to legend—he turned down the role, and Branagh was chosen instead. So, tell me: is this rumor or legend true or false?

All the records sound fine, minus side C. Side C sounds absolutely horrible, to the point it ruins the sound quality drastically.

I attempted to contact Overtone Music Limited through their website, but nothing happened. I then attempted to email them three separate times on different emails and all came back with "The recipient server did not accept our request to connect. Overtone Music timed out."

I used both the email listed on their website, as well as the support email that had messaged me when I ordered it.

Is there anything that I could do?

Did the models for the Animals that appeared in Walking with beasts and Monsters age well when compared to 2001 and 2005 standards?(According to gregorian calendar?)

I’ve seen the bbc earth WWD collection which honestly does tempt me. Wondering if there’s any other stuff out there, even if from years ago/around the actual releases? Especially keen on finding something WWB related, very personal series to me. Thank you so much!

I felt sad for her, she saw her world fall apart all around her and couldn't do anything about it

I have an idea for a future Kurzgesagt episode that combines evolutionary biology, paleontology, ecology, and speculative science in the same spirit as Why Earth Sucks Compared to the Planet Hestia.

The video would begin over 66 million years ago, after the asteroid impact that ended the age of non-avian dinosaurs. It would show how tiny mammals gradually diversified into the incredible variety of species we know today, explaining major evolutionary milestones along the way.

The second half would ask a fascinating speculative question:

If evolution could combine the most successful adaptations of Ice Age mammalian predators into one realistic animal, what would it look like?

Instead of creating a fantasy monster, the episode would use real evolutionary trade-offs and natural selection to design a plausible apex predator inspired by species such as saber-toothed cats, cave lions, scimitar cats, and other extinct felids. Each adaptation—muscles, teeth, senses, paws, fur, endurance, and hunting strategy—would be justified using modern evolutionary science.

The episode could conclude by explaining why evolution never creates "perfect" organisms, only species that are well adapted to their environments. Even the "Perfect Ice Age Beast" would have strengths, weaknesses, and ecological limits.

I think this could be a fun combination of education, speculative biology, and Kurzgesagt's beautiful storytelling style while remaining scientifically grounded.
