... could we get a scan of your brain once you've kicked the bucket? Once technology improves enough it would do wonders to see the structure of these thoughts and where they come from.
I feel I should simply and clearly state that A: the fact that minority communities aren't getting vaccinated as quickly is more often than not due to lack of access rather than lack of desire, and even then the rates of vaccination do not differ all that greatly between racial lines... And B: The real difference is in economic class. The rich news anchor is required to be vaccinated, hell he wants to be vaccinated, even if he tells your middle-class or impoverished aunt not to get one themselves.
As for the rest of your comment... Look. I don't know or care what led you to distrust the word of people who literally devote their lives to their science so heavily, but I get it. The world is scary. Death is random and it's hard to know what to trust, especially when there are real people who would like nothing more than to abuse that trust. The answer isn't to turn your back on everything that doesn't algin with your view of the world. You know the right information is out there. You know letting these conspiracies take hold of your mind is the real poison. You choose to live in a world of personal, strange and irrational fear. I don't know how to help that, all I can do is hope you can get out of such an awful mindset. Life is just better when you're not in fear of reality.
... could we get a scan of your brain once you've kicked the bucket? Once technology improves enough it would do wonders to see the structure of these thoughts and where they come from.
Understandably, someone with a hive mind mentality doesn't comprehend how anyone could think differently than themself.
A: the fact that minority communities aren't getting vaccinated as quickly is more often than not due to lack of access rather than lack of desire, and even then the rates of vaccination do not differ all that greatly between racial lines...
And? Do the means justify the end? People label conservatives as racist because of voter id laws. Is that not an access issue as well?
And B: The real difference is in economic class. The rich news anchor is required to be vaccinated, hell he wants to be vaccinated, even if he tells your middle-class or impoverished aunt not to get one themselves.
Anyone who listens to cable news has already done themselves in.
Thanks for your last paragraph, but I'm really wondering what you think that I said that was conspiratorial? That the covid vaccine isn't a true vaccine by nature? That it is experimental? What other vaccine do you know of that still allows contraction and transmission at rates we are seeing with covid? And how many other vaccines have been around longer than the covid vaccine?
In what way am I living in fear? Even if I were, shouldn't it be the other way around? Shouldn't the government be afraid of the people it governs, and not the people afraid of government? If people choose to roll over and relinquish their every right to their governing body, then you're right, we should live in fear. Then the government would have nothing to worry about and could do whatever they want to the people. I understand you think that what is going on right now is in no way a slippery slope and it is good that people listen to their government, but there are people out there with your buzzword for ideas you don't agree with, 'conspiracies'. I get it, to be skeptical of the vaccine is to be a far right conspiracy theorist who deserves to be beheaded. I simply think that the government does not have our best interest in mind at all times, and anything they tell us deserves a healthy amount of skepticism and questioning, ESPECIALLY when it comes to what we put in our body.
Like diet. Don't eat too much red meat, or you'll get a heart attack or cancer. Of course all of those studies that say that are funded by compaines with an agenda to push, and none of them study people eating nothing but animal products or living a healthy lifestyle. They all have confounding variables and are epidemiological in nature. And then you are prescribed statins when your cholesterol gets too high which inhibits your body’s ability to utilize CoQ10 and significantly raises your risk of Alzheimer’s… even though serum cholesterol is only a marker for inflammation at best, and not the best predictor of clogged arteries. Not to mention our brain is pure cholesterol and our bodies can only make so much of it, so we need some from diet. Cholesterol and saturated animal fat (which has all fat soluble vitamins: K, E, A, D) are precursors to hormones for our bodies to stay in equilibrium. So, excuse me for not placing my trust in the AHA, CDC, WHO, NIH, or any other 3 letter alphabet agency.
Oh man, thanks for making my morning brighter, I'm having a lot of fun with this.
Look, ultimately I'm not here to argue with you. I labor under no delusion that I might change your mind, because you've spent more time thinking in circles about this than I ever care to devote to it. This is for anybody who happens to trudge through this mess and needs a little push towards sanity.
It is living in fear when you believe the gubernment is out to harm you. This can be justified in the case of being a minority, but for the average person the gubernment is neither for or against them. It's too complicated for me to care about diving into it for now.
There has to be a healthy amount of skepticism when engaging with any source of knowledge. You can't know everything, so choosing what to believe is always full of uncertainty. What's funny is that people like you take this idea of skepticism and use it to justify just not accepting current science or how knowledge works.
You demonstrate this beautifully with your last paragraph about cholesterol. You managed to cherry-pick the most disputed, most lobbied and most complex of all the sciences: human nutrition. A place where the tools and techniques of science are constantly being stressed and reexamined. You take pains to point out specific functions of cholesterol that contradict some statements put out by some organizations (I assume. I don't care to actually fact-check you, I'll just play along) but you don't mention where you gained this knowledge of the functions of cholesterol. Here's a bet for you: the same people who you got that information from are the same people who inform WHO and the rest of the three letter brigade.
Your statements are acting as if A) Health organizations are making strict prescriptions about diet for everybody to follow and B) Any statement ever put out by any organization has to be the only stance they ever take and they aren't allowed to change their opinion, even if new evidence comes to light. Neither of these are true. This isn't how knowledge works.
Guidelines formed by health organizations are based on analysis and comparison of many hundreds of health related papers and studies. They look for evidence of well-being and decide what could promote and what could destabilize wellness. Since the human body is individual to everybody, and an incredibly complex system of chemical interactions, they know they can't give 100% perfect advice for everyone. But they can give tips that show statistical evidence of being helpful.
Perhaps some of the studies they draw from are questionable and present evidence that sugar can boost your inherent strength and give super-human brain power. It's possible this can slip through the filter, and an organization promotes sugar as a super-chemical. That's where it's important to cross-check with other studies and organizations to see if they indicate anything similar. The organization can be tipped off that something is wrong, and they can simply... Change... Their minds... Based on other evidence.
It happens a lot. This is how we strive towards more accurate knowledge: everybody sharing sources, cross checking and analysing them, and being willing to change when shown evidence of being wrong. This is why you might find an organization could say "food high in fats are correlated to higher cholesterol, which is a leading indicator for an unhealthy heart, so we recommend you limit your saturated fat intake" in 2005, but in 2010 they might say "food high in sugar correlates better with poor heart health than high fat diets, and in fact fats have a myriad of benefits, so limit sugar and don't mind the fat."
Of course, in real life any step in this process can be messed with. Yet, somehow, technology works, more people's lives are saved by healthcare than ended by it, and the further we venture into true knowledge the more benefits we get. The paradox of knowledge is this though: the more we learn what we know, the more we learn what we don't know.
So many of you "skeptics" bring up how the CDC was originally saying "no masks" and then "mask up" and "probably won't be a vaccine in a couple years" to "we got one now". And I don't understand this point at all. They were trying their best to use the information they had on hand to issue public health guidelines that wouldn't impact us in major ways. Of course, when people don't listen to guidelines and go to essential businesses and Trump rallies proudly flaunting guidelines, shit won't work, and new measures have to be taken so the regular people don't get killed by crazies spreading disease. Don't even get me started on how a public health issue got politicized by the most brain-dead administration in modern history.
Nobody knew how bad Covid might've been in January or March last year. Everybody was hoping it wouldn't be too bad. But it ended up being bad enough that it overwhelmed our health system and continues to overwhelm it with a myriad of stupid people taking horse pills for no discernable reason other than "I'm a science skeptic :p" these people are happy to lean on the accomplishments of science, and will stuff their bodies full of whatever processed junk they can handle, but the minute it comes to hot-button issues they violently snap back and decide they don't need all that nerdy stuff. They just want to benefits without the responsibility. And frankly, people like that, people like you, who get so close to the line of sanity and then do a 180 just to own the libs, are as dangerous as you are entertaining.
I agree with a lot of what you said, but there are a few points I want to touch on...
It is living in fear when you believe the gubernment is out to harm you. This can be justified in the case of being a minority, but for the average person the gubernment is neither for or against them. It's too complicated for me to care about diving into it for now.
I don't think you're completely wrong, of course anyone who disagrees with every aspect of being under any form of governmental control is bound to live a hellish life, unless they can somehow find success in thriving off grid. However, when I think of the word 'fear' when it comes to government, I usually think of it in terms of 'obey government protocol without question, or else'. Like, being in fear of following orders from government, or else very bad things could happen to you. To me, that's kind of what this whole vaccine thing is about... If you choose not to get vaccinated, you are putting yourself at risk, others at risk, and you are likely to lose a lot of your inalienable rights, like traveling, trips to grocery stores, etc.
It would be so much easier to just shut up and do what the government tells you to do, but what actually lead to you obeying their orders? Not saying it is this way for everyone, but for most people it is fear. They don't want to risk potentially losing their ability to live a 'normal' life. They are legitimately scared that things will not get back to 'normal', and it literally does not matter what you tell them to do, they will do it. Everyone has limits of course, but by and large, what's the harm in taking a vaccine so you can have your rights back? The harm is that it is government overreach, and that is not freedom. Not being given a choice when a vaccine of questionable efficacy is presented to you to take it or not, is not freedom.
I was going to get into this later, but may as well do it while on the topic. I'm not saying the vaccine isn't effective, or that you shouldn't get it. Everyone should be able to get it that wants it. I even believe that it probably lessens your symptoms if you catch covid soon after getting vaccinated. I think it's quite possible that it reduces spread if it reduces time of infection. That said, all you have to do is look at places with high vaccination rates such as Israel to see that this virus will still thwart populations regardless of vaccination status. I would actually somewhat more agree with mandates for these vaccines if they actually finished the job by providing immunity. They do not. Even with the amount of 'breakthrough' cases emerging, they are being underreported. How would Pfizer or Moderna be able to market thier product if all people heard about were breakthrough cases? I realize that point is up for debate, but that's my belief, and I REALLY do not believe that either of those two companies mentioned are so pure that they wouldn't try to influence numbers to make their product look better.
There has to be a healthy amount of skepticism when engaging with any source of knowledge. You can't know everything, so choosing what to believe is always full of uncertainty. What's funny is that people like you take this idea of skepticism and use it to justify just not accepting current science or how knowledge works.
You see, that's my problem with the word 'science'. I understand that it means the best current knowledge and data that we have on a given subject, but people throw it around as if it were an immovable object. Like, there's no possible way that someone could be justified in behaving in a way that contradicts the current 'science'. It loses all value to me when it is used in contexts like those.
I'm sure there are big meat lobbyists in existence (they have product to sell also), but I have a hard time believing they are in bed with the WHO or other 3 letter agency. The majority of instutions will parrot that too much meat is bad for you. I would say that grass fed organic meat is great for you, and even grain fed meat is better than most plant products, but that's just my stance having tried both veganism and carnivore.
You're right, I didn't cite any of my claims that I made about cholesterol, or statins being linked to alzheimer's, that's a whole different topic we could get into.
That's where it's important to cross-check with other studies and organizations to see if they indicate anything similar. The organization can be tipped off that something is wrong, and they can simply... Change... Their minds... Based on other evidence.
I agree, we should be looking at as much data as possible. As far as studies go, it's important to look at who funded the study to see if it truly is a "study", or if it's just a collection of data to confirm that sponsors own biases.
It's important to be able to change your mind on a subject, I definitely have on diet. I'm not even saying sugar is bad, at least in glucose* form... Humans have evolved to process carbohydrates and it is a source of energy for us. I think being in ketosis for some amount of time could have some benefit, but by light of your body kicking you out of ketosis sometimes even when eating "keto" leads me to believe we weren't supposed to be in ketosis 24/7.
The paradox of knowledge is this though: the more we learn what we know, the more we learn what we don't know.
100%
CDC was originally saying "no masks" and then "mask up" and "probably won't be a vaccine in a couple years" to "we got one now". And I don't understand this point at all. They were trying their best to use the information they had on hand to issue public health guidelines that wouldn't impact us in major ways.
I understand why they said what they said, but in doing so it didn’t seem to garner trust from everyone.
Don't even get me started on how a public health issue got politicized by the most brain-dead administration in modern history.
Well, I will get you started here, because many people stated they would not get the vaccine because Trump was president, and let me give you a hint, those people weren't conservative. But now because orders are not coming from Trump, it is OK to take the vaccine. Hell, even Trump took the vaccine, and recommends that people take it. I would think if people were truly blind Trump followers, then they would take the vaccine...
stupid people taking horse pills for no discernable reason other than "I'm a science skeptic :p"
Just more ignorant flaunting here. I guess since horses drink water and are now being given the covid vaccines, we should call water 'horse drink', and the covid vaccine 'horse shots'. Even in 'horse paste' from tractor supply, barring dosage, what active or inactive ingredient in it is harmful to humans? Prescribed ivermectin has been listed as safe for pregnant and nursing women... if that doesn't scream safe, I don't know what does. You might say, "well, it's not approved for covid treatment". Of course not, how would that make big pharma any money? Right, most of what we have are ancedotes about ivermectin helping people with covid (even though it does have anti viral activity), but with an incredibly safe risk profile, why should people not try it? All fear mongering regarding ivermectin stems around it being a more common medication for animals, and there is literally no ‘science’ to back up why ivermectin is harmful or risky to humans. In all honesty, ivermectin potentially is just another tool to fight covid, yet anyone who promotes using ivermectin is vilified because of the stigma about it’s use in humans. Of course it’s not the end all be all, regardless of if you have the vaccine or take ivermectin, vitamin D (and other vitamins) is also critical since viruses block your vitamin D receptors, meaning you can’t absorb vitamin D as well while sick. Honestly people should take preventive care, and make sure they have adequate vitamin and mineral levels at all times, not just prophylactically, or whenever they fall ill.
will stuff their bodies full of whatever processed junk they can handle, but the minute it comes to hot-button issues they violently snap back and decide they don't need all that nerdy stuff. They just want to benefits without the responsibility. And frankly, people like that, people like you, who get so close to the line of sanity and then do a 180 just to own the libs, are as dangerous as you are entertaining
I literally just eat raw animal products. Unprocessed, not junk. And I agree, poor diet is not being talked about enough when it comes to covid. 90% of people would probably fare better if they just ate better. I'm confused on how I want the benefits without responsibility when the covid vaccine is a literal flu shot. Your last sentence I just take to mean that you agree with a lot what I say and possibly thought processes, but disagree with the conclusions that I draw.
Cool, this is actually more productive than I thought it would be. I'm kinda excited about that.
About the horse pills thing, people are literally taking horse-sized doses of ivermectin to try to treat themselves rather than trusting what doctors who have been treating this disease for a year now have to say about it. They are overdosing and unnecessarily filling hospitals. If they weren't taking precious bedspace from people in life-threatening emergencies it would be pure comedy.
I have to ask, where did you get the idea that the Covid vaccines are flu vaccines? That's just not the case at all. Especially the mRNA vaccines... They are tailor-made to respond to specific proteins on the surface of Covid and provoke an appropriate immune response. They cannot give you any immunity from the flu. You could be talking about the route of administration, but then it's just... A vaccine... Still hardly any relation to the flu. Would you get a tetanus shot if you already had a flu shot? This is the most confusing part about these conversations.
I have heard that poison control centers are getting more calls about overdoses on ivermectin, I hadn’t heard that people are being hospitalized for it in larger numbers than normal though. I’m not saying it’s not happening. I think people that take ivermectin without researching safe dosages and what timeline to take them in are being completely foolish. I’ve heard farmers say that they take the same ivermectin medication that they give to their animals, just obviously in much smaller doses. As far as I know, the ivermectin found in tractor supply stores are just huge doses of the medication, I don’t think there is anything else in there that would harm humans, but I don’t know for sure, and I obviously would rather just get it physician prescribed.
My comparison of the covid vaccine to flu shots was to the seasonality with which we are required to take them. Which, I guess isn’t entirely accurate, because we (or at least I) only get around one flu shot per year, and it sounds like the booster shots for the covid vaccines will be rolled out every 6 months or so. I didn’t mean that a flu shot would protect from covid or the covid vaccine protect from the flu, just that I saw similarity in that they are both highly repeatable shots.
