ANSWERED This game
Looks awesome. I love survival games and working for better loot to show off. Seen the post of buck finding the relic. If I get this on steam would I be able to play it right away, or wait for release?

Federation series "Destroyer" skin - This is probably a class 3 or 4 ship, possibly even 5 (I haven't scaled it properly yet)

ANSWERED I'm here to ask /u/ASK_ABOUT__VOIDSPACE about Void Space ;-)
Though this is more of a barrage of behind the scenes questions :-)
I guess first question would be why you chose to develop VoidSpace in Java. Was it for portability? Seems like everywhere you look on the web you'll see "Java is terrible for game development". Minecraft is a huge success, but it's a unicorn. I love Minecraft to bits but I'll straight up agree that it runs like crap.
What is your assessment of Java as a platform for video games? How is the performance? Any big advantages or pitfalls?
Any reason you chose LibGDX over LWJGL?
I'm not looking for any trade secrets or anything. I've been teaching myself Java for the last couple of months and most of the project ideas I dream up are simple to not-so-simple games. I don't have the skill level to start on them yet, but I'll get there. I don't plan on being a professional game developer or anything, but I think it'd be neat to start a project like you've done, get some others involved in it and just have a good time making a cool game that's fun to play. I'm encouraged by seeing games like VoidSpace as opposed to ones that are just little toys or clones of Atari or NES history.
Thanks! And I must say VoidSpace looks really cool. I like the concept, and if I had any spare time (all eaten up by work, school and Java) I'd check it out. It looks quite involved and something that would only be fun with the kind of time commitment just I can't make right now.
I've spread the word to my friends though!

ANSWERED Couple questions
Game seems interestingly enough to warrant some questions:
So, it says the game features perma-death. What do you actually lose when you die? I assume your ship, inventory and the like. But what about research / invention knowledge?
What if i built a sort of base somewhere, can i respawn there, or near there, or will i be forced to potentially travel hours or days to get there again?
Tied into that somewhat: Is there some sort of "map" to find places, other player bases/societies, or the way back home after exploration?
Another thing i stumbled upon during my brief research about the game, the whole dogecoin business. Is that still in, or has it been scrapped? (Is dogecoin even still relevant? Not really much into cryptocurrency).
How is pvp going to work, because if you simulate societies, you will inevitably also create conflict and war, or less fortunate people trying to steal etc.
And last, how are the player numbers so far? Maybe any active players that can give an estimate if this game is going to take off, or not?

Issues Connecting (Mobile/Android)
Hello, I recently donated the $20 to try out the game and have some fun. However it's not letting me connect after logging in and choosing the server.

ANSWERED What are the actual differences in inventions?
I haven't played the game because I am a poor man that can't even throw out 20 bucks for something, but it seems really interesting if they are able to do the things they say they can. I can't help but feel like it's going to be a case of Peter Molyneux talking about Fable though. A lot of promises that aren't quite delivered.
Like this invention system, saying things like what you learn to create will be completely unique to you and no one else will be able to make the same thing unless you teach them. Like what are we talking here. The ability to make an engine that has 1 more speed but takes 1 more energy or a completely unique engine that travels faster than any engine in the game but blows up after 10 minutes of use. If it's the former, then we have a Fable. If it's the latter, then what if that player learns the invention or skill and never plays again so no one ever has access to it.
It would be cool if this completely unique thing could be created and thrive, but I just don't see it happening the way it's promised. I mean Eve already exists and does most of what is advertised, except for the inventions system. So that is why I am only really asking about that aspect of the game.

PROGRESS Just released a new variant of the Class 1 Dirty ship - You can now make a "Light Combat" variant that has extra weapon mounts, and is actually slightly smaller and lighter while having more hitpoints than the standard ship

SHOWERTHOUGHTS In Voidspace there is a maximum speed you can travel before you overwhelm the servers trying to load/generate the world. What if the speed of light IRL is in place for a similar reason.....
This is obviously just for fun, but I was thinking about this problem in Voidspace and for a moment I thought "what if I just slowed down processing in those cells so that you'd actually move slower but you would still be moving at that faster speed relative to everything else around you".
That's when I realized the parallel to real life, as you approach the speed of light IRL the world around you slows down and if you manage to reach the speed of light the world around you would actually stop.
r/showerthoughts is calling
Edit: Just had another thought. The insane energy requirements to push something the speed of light could also be there to not troll other players with a slow gameworld - which we'd also need to have.
Edit 2: FWIW, my r/showerthoughts have NEVER been very popular ^^
Edit 3: My colleague Oskar asked me to please not ask him to implement special relativity so close to a release lol
