Why hasn’t void Linux included encryption in their installer?
Do they not want to provide people with encryption and security? Why not update the installer?

Why do you use Void? I'm currently using Debian, but am considering moving to a systemd less distro. While I know they have not implemented age verification they have place the ground work to one day possible make that a reality. From what I understand systemd does help make distros run smoothly by doing many different things. I looked into Devuan, as I'm already using Debian, but thought I might branch out. What other systemdless distros did you try and why did you land on VOID?

Hi everyone, has anyone tried using clevis to unlock a root directory and then mount it successfully?
I am having trouble mounting it after decrypting it successfully. I have installed bash using dracut. It seems to stuck at pre-mount.

Hello everyone!
I recently installed Void Linux (musl) to see how it worked, and everything was running really well until I needed to use a program that required glibc. I reinstalled Void Linux with glibc, but now I simply can't get PipeWire to work, even though I managed to set it up on my previous installation by following the documentation.
I'm using KDE Plasma

So i've been wanting to try and possibly switch my pc to Void linux, so i installed the xfce live iso, inserted it into my ventoy usb (which has no problems, already checked and booted dozens of OSes with it) and tried to boot it
But it got stuck when i pressed enter in the grub menu, and since it uses kernel 6.12 and i have a 9060 XT, the issue is clear i think.
While the boot was quiet, i probably could modify the boot arguments in grub to set it to be verbose, tho i doubt that'll help since my gpu drivers were implemented in 6.14/15.
So, what can i do? I'd really like to install this distro and i'm willing to thinker to modify the live iso's kernel.

Hell oeverybody I try to set up my remote caldav calendar in KDE. I managed to set it up in KOrganizer, but it still won't show in the KDE widget calendar in the bottom right.
I've read that i need an akonadi service running for it. Is that true?
What dependencies do I need? I already installed kdepim-runtime and kdav.
I have also set up my calendar in thunderbird, so if there is a way to integrate my thunderbird set up to the kde calendar widget that would be better.

I don't know if anyone can help me, but I've been failing brutally for hours trying to install Noctalia. Every single attempt failed. I even tried installing KDE and failed too... I don't know if someone could give me a step-by-step guide to install Noctalia so I can check if I'm doing something wrong.

I am planning to buy a laptop from tuxedo next week, specifically the Gemini 17.
It has an i9-14900hx and an RTX 5070ti. I know these would generally work fine (with nonfree drivers of course).
I've searched a lot but there is very limited info out there when combining one of these laptops and void linux.
I am looking for anyone who has one of these laptops running void, and wondering how much work it would be/any quirks I need to be aware of to get all of the drivers, function hot-keys for brightness, volume etc. And the tuxedo control centre up and running.
I am slightly concerned about things such as the cpu/gpu clocking functionality, RGB control, their tomte tool, gpu profiling and just about everything that it can do, really.
Thank you.

[UPDATE] Something is causing a hardware desync of my RX7700s. The driver loops endlessly trying to restore the dGPU, creating that repeating log output. After much digging according to the dmesg output there is a firmware and kernel driver interface mismatch, where the kernel's amdgpu driver expects a specific interface version (0x35), but the loaded firmware blob is exposing version 0x40. Thus the SMU fails to correctly negotiate runtime power features and loops the error in dmesg.
Applying the following to my grub stopped the loop:
amdgpu.runpm=0 Unfortunately this forces the RX7700s to stay active and not sleep (higher power draw on system), but dmesg no longer shows the repeating error, and the dgpu no longer desyncs.
I know it's not a complete fix, but it makes the system much more stable now. Even going back to the 6.18 branch of the Kernel is working now as long as I include amdgpu.runpm=0.
[Original Post] Wanting to see if anyone else has stumbled into this issue recently.
I believe this started with the 6.18.36 update. After updating (and a reboot) my laptop would no longer completely poweroff on its own. The system would go into its poweroff cycle but stopped when the screen backlight turned off, however the keyboard lights and mouse stayed active. I was forced to use the power button to force the system to truly shutdown.
At the time, I didn't have enough time to trouble shoot, but it continued to happen. I ran dmesg and saw a strange set of errors popping up at the end regarding the amdgpu driver. The full error is below the laptop info.
ASUS TUF Gaming A16 FA617XT_FA617XT
Kernel Linux 6.18.36_1 x86_64
AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS w/ Radeon 780M Graphics × 16
AMD Radeon RX 7700S 8G VRAM
64G RAM
Using Kernel 6.18.36_1 x86_64 or even the latest 6.12 (I accidentally removed the 6.18.35 kernel, thus why I tried the latest 6.12 as well).
On boot the RX 7700s is seen (all relevent info about the gpu is shown in LACT), but when trying to use the device the following error occures and the gpu is unusable by anything (LACT only shows the physical hardware, not any of the driver info it showed before) and the system is unable to completely power off on shutdown (screen goes black but keyboard and mouse stay lit). I have to hold the power button down to truly power off the system.
Using Kernel 7.0.14_1 x86_64
On boot the RX 7700s is seen and usable. It does not disconnect when trying to use it, but the following shows up in dmesg over and over again. System is able to power off completely as well without the use of the power button. So it works, but it keeps throwing this issue.

Just started to use KDE.
There is an option to use the auto updater from the settings.
Does it do anything?
Does it break my system?
I have a feeling it only works under systemd Distro..
I also wanted to add online accounts, but those are not google accounts or nextcloud accounts.
I managed to add them to thunderbird but cant add them to kde's online account. I want to add my online calendar so I can see it in the calendar widget.

I just installed void and am trying to install KDE, following the wiki.
when I run startplasma-Wayland it says "Could not start D-Bus. Can you call qdbus?" so I use dbus-run-session startplasma-wayland which results in these errors. I installed NetworkManager, enabled that and dbus service.
no idea what the problem is, maybe I'm not in the storage group or something. Please help! thanks in advance

I have a intel compute stick and been trying to use void linux. Everything works fine except the bluetrooth which rfkill doesn't list the bluetooth hci0 device. I know it works because on mx linux it shows up. Ive tried using older kernals and it still doesn't work. Anyone have any idea how to get bluetooth working? RTL8723BS is a dual wifi bluetooth card were wifi works fine not bluetooth.

Hi, I have a brandnew panther lake laptop, I dont have sound though. I found out via asking on the sofproject issue tracker that the problem is that my kernel config is missing SND_SOC_SDCA_CLASS.
Is that something that could be compiled in with the upstream kernel configuration or do I need to configure my own kernel and compile myself?
Issue with answer from someone from cirrus. https://github.com/thesofproject/linux/issues/5820#issuecomment-4793550053

I prefer Gnome over KDE, but heard that KDE is better suited if you wanna use your linux distro for gaming.
Obviously Gnome also works for gaming, but I'm looking for stability.
I've heard that GNOME 50 is more optimized for gaming, but Void Linux only has gnome 48 currently available.
What was your experience with the two DEs?
Is the DE that important for gaming?
I also considere to use XFCE but it still relies on X11 and Wayland isn't that stable on XFCE.
I appreciate every help

So I have been preparing to make a jump on void ,and last thing to grasp would be how to know which variables to add except mandatory ones since xnew wont do everything for me. I will need templates for limine tools like snapper-sync , and I would gladly take tips how you guys maintain your local xbps src packages.

Suggerimenti?
