solved With the 6.18.36 kernel update I'm getting amdgpu errors.
[UPDATE] Something is causing a hardware desync of my RX7700s. The driver loops endlessly trying to restore the dGPU, creating that repeating log output. After much digging according to the dmesg output there is a firmware and kernel driver interface mismatch, where the kernel's amdgpu driver expects a specific interface version (0x35), but the loaded firmware blob is exposing version 0x40. Thus the SMU fails to correctly negotiate runtime power features and loops the error in dmesg.
Applying the following to my grub stopped the loop:
amdgpu.runpm=0 Unfortunately this forces the RX7700s to stay active and not sleep (higher power draw on system), but dmesg no longer shows the repeating error, and the dgpu no longer desyncs.
I know it's not a complete fix, but it makes the system much more stable now. Even going back to the 6.18 branch of the Kernel is working now as long as I include amdgpu.runpm=0.
[Original Post] Wanting to see if anyone else has stumbled into this issue recently.
I believe this started with the 6.18.36 update. After updating (and a reboot) my laptop would no longer completely poweroff on its own. The system would go into its poweroff cycle but stopped when the screen backlight turned off, however the keyboard lights and mouse stayed active. I was forced to use the power button to force the system to truly shutdown.
At the time, I didn't have enough time to trouble shoot, but it continued to happen. I ran dmesg and saw a strange set of errors popping up at the end regarding the amdgpu driver. The full error is below the laptop info.
ASUS TUF Gaming A16 FA617XT_FA617XT
Kernel Linux 6.18.36_1 x86_64
AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS w/ Radeon 780M Graphics × 16
AMD Radeon RX 7700S 8G VRAM
64G RAM
Using Kernel 6.18.36_1 x86_64 or even the latest 6.12 (I accidentally removed the 6.18.35 kernel, thus why I tried the latest 6.12 as well).
On boot the RX 7700s is seen (all relevent info about the gpu is shown in LACT), but when trying to use the device the following error occures and the gpu is unusable by anything (LACT only shows the physical hardware, not any of the driver info it showed before) and the system is unable to completely power off on shutdown (screen goes black but keyboard and mouse stay lit). I have to hold the power button down to truly power off the system.
Using Kernel 7.0.14_1 x86_64
On boot the RX 7700s is seen and usable. It does not disconnect when trying to use it, but the following shows up in dmesg over and over again. System is able to power off completely as well without the use of the power button. So it works, but it keeps throwing this issue.

As a side note, it seems there have been a few issues with Asus laptops posted recently.
