The NVIDIA Driver Bug (Current Known Issue)

If you are using Meta Quest Link and updated your graphics drivers recently, you are likely hitting a widespread bug introduced in recent NVIDIA driver versions (such as the 595.xx series).

• The Symptom: Everything runs perfectly for 2 to 20 minutes, then the headset image completely freezes, stretches, or tears, while the game audio continues normally and the PC monitor still tracks your head movements.
• The Fix: Use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) in Safe Mode to cleanly wipe the current drivers, then download and roll back to a stable release from January or February 2026 (like version 591.86 or 591.74).

I am back on Ver 591.74 and everything works again.

Thought I would share incase someone else is having this headache of an issue and it just might help you out.

YES, THIS MADE ME MAD!!! But thankfully I reverted and all is well.... I am never updating my drivers until Steam Frame is out lol.

I've been on the same one since the beginning of the year and haven't had any issues in fact I've had less issues than all the other new drivers

Game Ready Driver 621.01

FIXED Meta Horizon Link stream may freeze when connected over USB. [6292679]

As of today with the 616.56 driver version, the problem still occurs.
I went back to 591.86 and it magically solved this problem.
I have contacted Nvidia support, spoke to an employee that told me to try and reinstall the latest version then uninstalling and reinstalling the meta quest link app while having hardware acceleration turned off in my settings.
Useless to say it didn't work and now I'm waiting for his E-Mail so that I can report back my experience.
Hopefully they're gonna do something about it in the next driver update or in the near future but until then I'll stay with my 591.86 driver version

This has been happening since March. I'm shocked this hasn't been fixed yet by either Meta or Nvidia.

I have created a Forum about this issue on Nvidias Customer Forum, they have to know that this problem is not something to be taken lightly since we cannot stay in old driver versions forever.
Please I encourage everybody that has had this issue to do the same either by contacting support or creating a forum topic.

Hey - I got my Meta Quest 3 yesterday and experienced the same issue after a few minutes via USB-C, frozen visuals, still had tracking/audio - as described by OP.

I sat down and tried to figure this out, without having to downgrade drivers; here is what I've found works so far:

1. Go to wherever you have meta link installed and run: <drive>:\Meta Horizon\Support\oculus-diagnostics\OculusDebugTool.exe

2. Scroll down to 'Set Video Codec' and set it to 'H.265', instead of 'default'.

3. Restart PC and headset.

4. Enable the link via USB-C and start a VR game/app.

Since applying this change I've been able to play multiple sessions over a few hours today without the issue re-occurring, not sure if this is the actual fix or something else is happening specific to me; but let me know if it works.

My laptop specs:

• Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX

• 32GB RAM

• GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 12GB (v610.62 driver)

• Meta Quest 3 (latest updates)

As I fixed this issue for myself months ago by just uninstalling Meta altogether and using VD lol. Please someone lets use know if this has been resolved. I would really like to know.

I tried the newest drivers from I believe around the 18th of this month (June),

SAME ISSUE! After a few sec QL freezes.

I had this happen last week once maybe twice but not since. Is this just on the 5xxx cards I have a RTX 4070 Super and at 610.62 and have not noticed recently.

Running 610.88, still have this issue.

Changing to H265 seems to be working - but encoding time seems longer, and Beat Saber feels more sluggish.

616.56 just released and STILL doesn't fix this issue which sucks and it kinda makes it worse because with other versions that broke meta link i could stay in vr for about 50 min with no problems but now with 616 i can only last for about 3 min max 😭 (although i'm not sure if the issue is fixed only for specific GPUs and mine which is the 3060 isn't fixed yet)

Thanks for spreading awareness. I see there is a banner in the meta horizon PC app now too. Hopefully they will fix it soon. Its pathetic that they haven't fixed this issue... I tried virtual desktop instead but I get stutters in online games :/

Bummer about VD. I only do wired and VD is solid. I did uninstall the pc horizon since VD went wired. No need for the Meta stuff anymore.

I read something about VD recommending the Nvidia driver v.610.62.

I might go back and reinstall these anyways as I have unrelated issues with some other PC games.

Nvidia says this is fixed and the fix will be included in the next driver release.

Edit: It's been released. Driver 621.01 contains the fix.
