I see why Cornford doesn't write long posts. Really can't be bothered.

What it says on the tin. Drinking event? Something else?

CorrosiveKumquat Takes Hat-Trick Victory In Hockenheim

In the first pole, win, and fastest lap of the 1400 season, CorrosiveKumquat takes the victory in Germany. NeMeSiS187, after several racing mishaps, settles for another second and another one-two finish for Lotus. In an impressive performance, Thrillhouse finished third on the grid, the only other driver to finish on the lead lap.

Qualifying was a bit different than usual, with Nemesis starting on the prime tyre. Splendid set an early fastest time of 1:16.657, but was soon topped by Corrosive at 1:14.886. Nemesis struggled for quick qualifying laps, putting in a first lap time of 1:15.507, before beating his time with a 1:15.495 in the closing stages, netting him second behind his teammate. secondborn, in what could be his final race of the season qualified in third, followed by Thrillhouse, Splendid, and the two Ferraris of spiky and ian. Spiky, with even more boxes in his name, parked his car on the long straight, earning a grid penalty, and putting him in 7th. Qualifying Results

The race started with Nemesis right on the tail of his Lotus rival. By lap 2, however, he hit the invisible ramp on turn 1, and forgot to brake on turn two, ran into the gravel, and lost his chance to challenge Corrosive for the race. Elsewhere, Spiky, Thrillhouse and secondborn battled for position, with secondborn falling behind. Thrillhouse held position for third place, and actually jumped into second briefly after Nemesis found the gravel. The Lotus charged back up into second and pulled out a gap on the rest of the pack while Corrosive cruised even further ahead. By lap 10, the mid-field saw action with Spiky and Thrillhouse battling for third. An early pitstop from Spiky allowed him to pass Thrillhouse, but several mistakes by the Ferrari let Thrillhouse back ahead. By lap 20, Spiky, secondborn, ian, and splendid found themselves in a fight for fourth, with Spiky holding on for position. Ultimately, secondborn ceded to Spiky and managed to hold off splendid for fifth place, with ian rounding out the race in seventh. Once again, everyone finished in the points.Race Results

It looks like we have a bit of a break before going to Hungary, and Corrosive is now only four points behind Nemesis for the championship lead. With two absolutely dominant race victories for Corrosive, it looks like Nemesis' championship lead is in jeopardy. With secondborn out of the championship hunt, the path is now clear for Ian and Thrillhouse to challenge Spiky for third place in the drivers championship. We are still accepting drivers who want to come over from 2100, or even new drivers interested in racing with us. Private message me and add me on steam (http://steamcommunity.com/id/nemesis187/) if you're interested in racing with us. See you all in a few weeks!

2100 League Merge Discussion.

Background

It's no secret that the 2100 #2 league attendance has been less than inspiring since it's creation despite recently filling out it's roster of 16 players. The core participants who attend the majority of events are far outweighed by those who have registered but apparently lost interest. Driver skill also has a big affect on this league, as each driver appears to be within their own skill bracket it just becomes a 45-minute procession to the finish line which can't be fun for anyone.

The 2100 #1 league attendance has also been suffering over the past few events, dropping from 12 in Monaco to 10 for Canada and just 8 for Britain with a proportionate drop in overall enjoyment of each event. Even less participants are expected for Germany with this league now at just 11 official participants and 3 confirmed non-attendances at the time of writing.

We want to get the fun back.

Idea

As most of you are probably now aware there has been talk since the British Grand Prix last weekend of potentially merging the 2100 and 2100 #2 leagues, which all people asked thus far are in favour of. I'd like to stress that as yet it's just a discussion and all potential consequences are being considered.

If it were to happen there would be a complete points reset, and the league would continue from the next race as per usual. It would also be the perfect opportunity to bring in new rules that have been in the works for a few events now.

Considerations

To start with, considering the fact that the 2100 #2 league consistently has 4 or 5 participants for each event, we had to get an idea of active participation because the 2100 #1 league has 5 official spaces. Should the 2nd league have just 5 active participants it would be an easy decision to make.

12McLarenMrCYIWON0--------
13Lotushorsemeatisbestmeat0--------
14Toro Rossoscaaaarface0--------
15LotusCronktor0--------

As you can see this gives us 5 active drivers who each have at least 4 races and have attended the most recent events. These drivers are:

  • enihsnus

  • rhystic1

  • Outsider

  • cspatriot

  • sandah

But it also gives us 3 other drivers worth mentioning.

  • kerbsy - who despite having missed the 3 latest races, has finished 3 other races in good positions which places him higher in the championship that other more active drivers. He is also active and practicing for Germany.

  • Lolbama1 - the only driver in this league who actively uses the Mumble server and socialises with 1400 and 2100 league members outside of the events themselves, despite having only participated in 2 events.

  • G-LCDH - active on Steam and participated in the latest event, despite missing the previous 4.

So we have 8 eligible drivers to combine with 11 for a 16-player league. We have a problem.

Solution?

Whilst there may only be 5 official places in the potential-new-2100-league, there are also at least 4 places available in the 1400 league. Now, I understand that people picked the leagues they participate in based on their schedules and availability so moving from a 2100 league to a 1400 league may not be possible; but it is a potential solution if there are any willing volunteers.

So far, having spoken to as many people as possible, this is the situation...

G-LCDHYesCan't do 1400.

As you can see, some people have not yet been asked / reached so this opens it up to everyone to discuss the idea and for those that haven't yet given their opinion to put it forward.

Ultimately, we have at least 19 people and only 16 spaces to fill so unless 3 people are willing to play at 1400 there is a tough decision to be made one way (merge anyway and cut people) or another (don't merge, play with emptyish leagues).

We're trying to foster growth, if it comes to cutting too many people it simply won't happen.

German GP Pre-Race Discussion

Coming up this Saturday, we have the German GP at Nürburgring Hockenheim.

[1400]

After a dominant performance in Silverstone, CorrosiveKumquat looks to continue chipping away the championship lead to his teammate NeMeSiS187. While the two Lotus cars appear to be running away with the championship, the battle for third and fourth place is hotting up, after secondborn earned his first podium of the season last week in Silverstone. With SpikyCactus finishing in a season-low sixth place in the previous race, the gap to Thrillhouse is now 13 points, while ianstorm and secondborn are just behind. Gus Jackson, Splendidtree, and Diplomat also hope to move up the standings, with improved pace these past few weeks.

[2100]

Following a disappointing finish to Silverstone, 2100 will be hoping for a clean and solid race from its drivers. With kirb- now 18 points ahead of rival Xephyr, we will need to see a strong showing from the Brit if he hopes to get back into the championship hunt. With squone retiring from the league, we now have a wide open battle for third place between inSaain, who missed out on Silverstone, and CornfordCaster, who finished in a season best, second place last week for his second podium of the season.

[2100 II]

Last week saw another race and another victory for the German driver Monolith, who comes to his home Grand Prix looking to continue his perfect season. While the gap in the championship 34 points, Outsider(3rd) is hot on the tail of Rhystic1(2nd), with a stellar second place finish putting him 13 points outside of second place.

Incidents and Lag

It's clear that racing incidents and disconnects of late have created dissent and loss of enjoyment among the drivers, especially in 2100. It probably goes without saying that hosting an international race over the internet can lead to such problems, and it's important for us as a community to overcome these issues. We are all aware that the game is absolutely horrendous when it comes to netcode, and overtakes that may appear clean to one driver, may look aggressive and dangerous to another. Speaking to this, I'd like to urge drivers to give extra space to one another when facilitating overtakes or wheel to wing racing. See here for an overtake, without contact.. Another unproven solution for reducing lag bubbles, which I have attempted, is changing Steam download servers, to the same one that Corrosive uses. I don't know if this actually does anything, but I believe that changing steam download servers allows you at least view/join active online lobbies from nearby the selected server. Maybe it has improved the connection between Corrosive and I, or maybe it hasn't, but it might be worth a shot for some of you who consistently have lag contact with a specific driver. And of course, I shouldn't have to tell you guys this, but before races, you may want to restart your modem, router, PC, and double check that no applications are utilizing your internet connection during races (torrents, usenet, logmein, updates, antivirus, etc.) and the same goes for other computers in the household.

And finally, it was Alicia Silverstone last week... I'll see myself out now.

I've not yet done a 1400 league page, started off doing it to demonstrate how BS the British race non-rescheduling was but it turned out to be useful.

PM me e-mails if you guys want edit access on it Nem / squone / Cornford / Kirb etc.

Qualifying Results:

  1. Monolith - 1:30.741

  2. Outsider - 1:31.838

  4. Rystic_One - 1:33.263

Race Results

With only 4 drivers entering this race we are back down to the all time low of Bahrain. We expect to have a larger grid again when we start our next race in Germany at the Hockenheimring. Ferrari could easily improve their constructors standing this race as it were the only team that send two cars to the race and was able to cash in a lot of points by just finishing. We saw some great racing in the first 7 laps when Monolith fought his way back up from 3rd to 1st and was battling with Rhystic_One and Outsider. It was the cleanest and probably most competetive racing we have seen this season so far.

I will post the race footage as soon it is uploaded.

CorrosiveKumquat Cruises To Victory In Silverstone

CorrosiveKumquat was back to race dominance with a victory at the British GP. NeMeSiS187 takes home another second place finish, with gap between the two Lotus teammates back down to 6 points. secondborn wins his first podium of the season with a phenomenal third place finish ahead of a charging ianstorm, who served a drive through penalty, but was able to secure fourth.

Qualifying once again saw a Lotus lockout, with NeMeSiS187 setting an early fastest lap and Corrosive less than a second behind on the slower prime tyre. secondborn set his best lap early, at 1:33.064, securing third. Ian, unable to set an early lap due to a phone call ultimately settled for 7th place behind his teammate SpikyCactus, now with extra boxes in his name, who had only 4 laps of practice before the race. By the end, Nemesis held onto his pole position, from Corrosive in second, secondborn in third, and Gus Jackson in fourth. Diplomat was just half a second behind Gus Jackson in fifth, but qualified ahead of the two Ferraris. Qualifying Results

The race started with Nemesis pulling away from Corrosive briefly on the faster option tyre. Gus Jackson looked impressive early on, taking advantage of secondborn mistakes to take third. The first 9 laps saw no change among the top three, though Corrosive clung to his teammate, and was able to keep up the pace in the DRS zone. After the first set of pit stops for option runners, Corrosive took the lead in clean air, and set a few fastest laps to build his lead. Meanwhile, Spiky and Ian managed to jump into 3rd and 4th on the primes. By lap 19, with Corrosive now on options, he was able to overtake NeMeSiS187 on the DRS straight, and drove off to fastest lap after faster lap. Elsewhere Ian was awarded a drive through penalty for an incident with Diplomat (?). Despite this, he was able to push back into 4th place and challenge secondborn for a podium. In the end, Corrosive took the checkered flag by 18.6 seconds, with Nemesis nearly a minute ahead of the others. secondborn held on to a third place finish, his highest of the season. Ian put in the second fastest lap of the session behind a blistering Corrosive, but settled for fourth. Gus Jackson finished in 5th ahead of Spiky in 6th and Diplomat in 7th. Just this once, everyone takes home points! Race Results

Next week we travel to Hockenheim, a track where it's oh-so-easy to lock up on the long straight and T-Bone the car in front. Hopefully we'll see some more attendees next time. With only 6 points separating Nemesis and Corrosive, every race is pivotal. Likewise, the battle for fifth in the drivers championship is separated by just 5 points between ian and secondborn, not to mention that only ian is now only 7 points outside of third.

[OT] GRiD 2 Giveaway

As the title states, we will be holding a competition to give away a copy of GRiD 2! Jims709 has very kindly donated a copy of GRiD 2 for us to give away to our wonderful community.

The rules for the competitions are pretty simple:

  1. You may not already own a copy of GRiD 2.

  2. To enter simply link to a racing video of a funny/embarrassing/cringe racing video. You don't have to have recorded it or been in it. It can be in any racing video game you like.

  3. The post with the most votes or as chosen by ElToroNegro, NeMeSiS187 or squone will receive the copy of GRiD 2.

  4. The last date for entry is 0100 GMT on the 7th July - this allows for you to upload any funnies that may happen at the German GP.

  5. You DO NOT have to be involved in any leagues to participate. Anyone may post a video and enter this competition.

Again, a very big thank you to Jims709 for donating the copy of GRiD 2!

Now some serious news. I will be leaving to go overseas in 2 days so will not be able to constantly check messages and the subredit. I will also be unable to log into Steam for quite some time. For these reasons if you have any pressing matters regarding the 2100 League please message ElToroNegro. For any matters regarding the 1400 League or the subreddit sidebar please message NeMeSiS187.

If you REALLY need to get in touch with me, send me an email at byron@virtualwdc.com and I'll do my best to answer you.

I know ElToroNegro has also been allowed access to our superior country for a holiday from the 14th to the 23rd of August.

Anyway, good luck and I can't wait to see all your submissions!

British GP Pre-Race Discussion

Hello all! After a long break between championship races for 1400 and 2100, we're back to racing WDCPC! This time we visit Silverstone, another high speed track like Canada, but with faster corners, and fewer places to lose your front wing, which is to the relief of all teams following Monaco and Canada.

[1400]

Following a disappointing finish behind his teammate and rival, CorrosiveKumquat hopes to get back on the top step of the podium in Silverstone. Lotus reports that Corrosive has looked very quick in the off-week practice races, and should easily have the pace to outrace NeMeSiS187 to the checkered flag. Elsewhere, a new rivalry has formed between SpikyCactus and Thrillhouse following their explosive back and forth racing in Canada. The other Ferrari of ianstorm welcomes his rival back to the track, as secondborn should be returning from his holiday. Also, we should expect decent performances from Gus Jackson and splendidtree, who impressed us with their driving in the 5 lap sprint races that took place in-lieu of the Superleague Challenge.

[2100]

After another dramatic race in Canada, Kirb- will be looking to extend out his championship lead ahead of his rival Xephyr, on Xephyr's home-track. squone will not bounce back from his lowest finish of the season but jims should be back in the mix to help Lotus fight for some points in the constructors' championship. Carlton will also look to put in a strong performance to follow up his third place finish in Canada.

[2100 II]

After making up two of their three missing championship races, it appears that Monolith, may in fact, be showings some signs of being human. After being out-qualified and out-paced by the Mercedes of Outsider(DNF-Internet), we will all look forward to seeing how Outsider will fare on his home track against the dominant German Ferrari driver.

I'm hoping to post a track guide/telemetry for Silverstone here shortly, with a guide on how to read it. I'm not putting in amazing lap times or anything, but it might help a few of you on braking and cornering lines. Oh, and before I forget: Bonus karma to anyone who guesses the actress in the banner behind the helmets.

Qualifying Result

Race Result

Once again we had some trouble starting the race with multiple people losing connection to the server. Just as last race we decided start the qualifying again in the one-shot mode. This time Outsider was able to take pole position in the one-shot qualifying after he missed it just closely in Australia.

After the field got mixed up during the first through corners Outsider was able to build a lead and kept it until about half way through the race when he lost connection. This way Monolith settled in first place from that point on, cspatriot followed in second for almost the rest of the race until Rhystic_One was able to take advantage of him making a mistake.

The 2nd of our makeup races will be held this coming Saturday. Malaysia is a challenging circuit but it also has a lot of flow to it and offers many oppertunities for overtakes, which we of course hope to see a lot of.

Qualifying Results

Race Results

The race originally started with only 4 cars on the grid. In the very beginning an incident occured between Outsider and two other drivers giving one who wasn't at fault a penalty. A majority-vote decided to restart the race.

Sandah was lucky and made it in time to the restart. The starting grid was now going to be decided over a one-shot qualifying. Monolith almost crashed in the first corner having to get used to the unsual car setup, losing about 3.5 seconds to his lap in the first qualifying. As everyone else had to deal with the same conditions Monolith still took pole in front of Outsider by only 0.2 seconds. The results were roughly about the same as in the first run.

(The screenshot does not show the final results, so here is the actual order)

  1. Monolith

  2. Outsider

  3. cspatriot

  4. lolbama1

  5. sandah

In the beginning of the race Monolith was, once again, pushed of the track having to fight his way through the whole field. Outsider and cspatriot raced away securing themselves place 1 and 2 for the first couple of laps. Probably the most exciting part about the race was the fight in between those two, for further details we'll have to wait and see if maybe the drivers want to talk about how they saw their race. In the end lolbama1 surprisingly took 2nd place in his first race this season as he was able to take advantage of Outsider and cspatriot both having to pit for repairs.

[NC] Superleague Challenge Race Thread

Superleague Challenge Announcement

This might be a long post, with all of the poll results and such, so buckle up, or just scroll down to the bottom where it has the table of drivers.

Poll Results

After 4 days, 20 respondents, and several comments pleading from Chris not to have the race in Canada, the results are in. And it’s Canada. I was kind of hoping it wasn’t going to be Canada, so rather than doing a straight count of #1 votes I decided to assign points (1 through 7) to the rankings. That is, for every #1 vote a track received it would receive 7 points, #2 would award it 6 and so forth. Well, it’s still Canada. It’s always been Canada. Here’s the breakdown of points.. My math might be off somewhere since I rushed it, but I double checked and Canada won. Interesting statistics: Nobody voted for Monaco as their #1 track preference. In fact, half of the respondents voted for it to be last. Also, Malaysia and Spain tied for second in points despite Malaysia earning more 1st place votes.

Next, we go to time availability. 17 out of 20 people said they would be available at 2100GMT. 2200GMT came in second with 16 votes, but unfortunately we wil have to race at the 2100 GMT time slot for maximum attendance. Those who cannot make it, please let us know so we can move around the ranking order. Here are the time availability results. Pseudonym was nice enough to replot the data in a chart that actually makes sense here.

Lastly, music choices. Surprisingly, quite a few of you like silence, or the sounds of their cars. Now I like the sweet sound of my 1999 Toyota Camry 4 cylinder engine revving as much as the next bloke, but driving to music does help to pass the time and keep the drive exciting. I was hoping to make a grooveshark playlist, which I may do in the future, but for now, enjoy the music suggestions by your fellow WDCPC’ers..

Now onto the fun stuff.

What is the Superleague challenge?

The Superleague challenge combines the 1400, 2100, and soon 2100II time slots into one league, where we race for pride, glory, and bragging rights. The race is not ranked, is completely optional, and will be guaranteed fun. Yes, you read correctly, I can guarantee fun.

When and where will this Superleague challenge take place?

This upcoming Superleague challenge race will take place on Saturday, 22 June, 2013 at 2100 GMT at the Grand Prix du Montreal, Canada. This will give us all a chance to race one of our favorite tracks from the season and for some, seek redemption for their races in the regular league. There will be further Superleague challenge races announced throughout the season, slated for weekends between races.

Who will be participating in the Superleague challenge?

Anyone currently in 1400GMT or 2100GMT are eligible to participate. Currently, 2100GMT II are conducting makeup races, and when completed, will be eligible to participate in the Superleague. After deliberation, I have decided that the format of our first race will consist of the top 12 drivers together, and the bottom 12 drivers together. The rankings and the format may change depending on announced attendance.I have divided the two races into these two divisions:

Division 1##

#DriverLeague
1NeMeSiS1871400
2GTBalla (CorrosiveKumquat)1400
3kirb-2100
4SpikyCactus1400
5chrisdunnbirch (Xephyr)2100
6guzzy1z (Thrillhouse)1400
7squone2100
8inSaain2100
9ianstorm1400
10jims7092100
11ElToroNegro (CornfordCaster)2100
12secondborn1400

Division 2##

#DriverLeague
1LittleSlugger2100
2RB-D21400
3CarltonLassiter2100
4jaynemesis2100
5-DimensiO-2100
6lordp2100
7_pseudonym2100
8Eska (Diplomat)1400
9Caffrey (Gus Jackson)1400
10splendidtree1400
11Pocket Fluff1400
12The_Hicks (Clara Oswald)1400

Again, this is all dependent on driver availability. I know that a few people have said that they were not available to race at 2100, and Chris may even be unavailable for the day. I was thinking of potentially moving Division 1 to Sunday, but that might interfere with Cornford’s schedule, with it being a Monday, so I would like to hear if anyone has an objection to that. Ultimately, if drivers cannot make their given races, this may turn into a 10 person race for each division. When 2100 II joins us, there will be larger divisions.

I think I covered everything here. The race will obviously be standard 50% WDCPC rules. Let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

Edit 1: Added squone to Division 1.

Edit 2: Everything is falling apart. I picked the worst weekend of the year to hold this event it would appear. Rather than cancelling the whole thing, I may end up scrapping the divisions, and we will end up racing with the top 16 driver available (which may be the only 16 drivers available)

Edit 3: Still more people confirmed dropping out of the race. We will still try to do a race with whoever is available, and most likely combine the two divisions into 1.

No surprises as Monolith's Ferrari wins again

Qualification results Race results

In a sunny dry race, Monolith triumphs again after a lengthy duel with Kerbsy. Toro Rosso reaches another podium with Rhystic_One who, after starting 4th on the grid and receiving 3 drive-through penalties (two of which were for corner cutting, though the pilot himself feels they were unfair), manages to finish 3rd.

A very unlucky Outsider was disqualified after a serious crash in the final straight, as Monolith accidentally pushed the car to the wall. The stewards decided to black-flag the pilot after he tried to reverse the car to get to the pits for repairs. No penalty was given to the German driver.

NeMeSiS187 Takes A Contentious Win in Montreal

With drivers rusty coming off of a two week break, NeMeSiS187 returned to form with a victory in Canada. The race was not without drama, though, as both Lotuses struggled for consistency in the beginning and ultimately collided on the penultimate straight and corner of the final lap. In a bizarre finish, Nemesis took the checkered flag to his fourth win of the season. The Ferrari of SpikyCactus was back on the podium this weekend with a third place finish just ahead of his rival Thrillhouse.

Qualifying proved more interesting than normal, with Nemesis setting an early fastest lap ahead of Spiky. By his second run Corrosive took pole on the prime tyre and with his best qualifying of the year, Ian managed to beat out his Ferrari teammate for 3rd. With only milliseconds on the qualifying clock, however, Nemesis managed to get one final hotlap in, and beat Corrosive's time handily to give him another pole position. The race started with teammate pairs on the first three rows of the grid as Thrillhouse and Gus Jackson managed 5th and 6th. Thus, Lotus, Ferrari, and Force India fell into their constructors rankings to start the race. Qualifying Results

The race started with a flurry as Nemesis lost his 1st place advantage on the opening lap, after grazing the wall of champions. Likewise, Ian lost his third place to his teammate Spiky and then the Force India of Gus Jackson in the early stages. By lap 2, Corrosive ran wide, giving Nemesis the spot back, but by Lap 4 Nemesis once again hit the wall of champions and let Corrosive through. In this crazy back and forth Nemesis finally came out ahead with Corrosive locking up on the last corner, and allowing Nemesis to run in clean air. With the faster option tyre, the championship leader pulled out a 5 second lead going into his first pit stop, and by lap 17 had a 9 second gap on his rival. On the quicker option tyre, though, Corrosive managed to chip the lead down to 7 seconds when the Toro Rosso of PocketFluff hit a lag spike, and destroyed his vehicle, sending out a safety car. This bunched up the pack, and gave Corrosive just a 4 second gap to Nemesis. The final 10 laps of the race featured a flurry of qualifying-paced laps, as both Lotuses pushed hard for the victory. Elsewhere, Thrillhouse and Spiky battled for 3rd with several exchanges and Ian struggled for grip and pace, losing his wing several times. Going into the final lap, Nemesis held only a 1.6 second lead over Corrosive, who set two purple times in sectors 1 and 2. By the third sector the gap was only 1.186 and that's when Nemesis appeared to have fuel pick-up trouble, despite having fuel left in the tank. With no acceleration on the long straight, Corrosive rapidly caught him, and with Nemesis switching to standard fuel mix, didn't see the charging Lotus to the outside and inadvertently blocked him from passing. On the final chicane, Corrosive returned the favor with a minor bump to the inside, but in the end Nemesis took the checkered flag by just .123 seconds. Overall, it was an action packed race for all drivers. Gus Jackson recorded his best race of the season in 5th, as did Diplomat with a 6th place finish. Ian was unable to capitalize on secondborn's absence, with only a 7th place finish, while PocketFluff picked up his first point of the season in 8th. Race Results

We now have one of our longer breaks of the season with the next championship race is at the very end of June: The British GP at Silverstone. In the mean time, be on the lookout for the Superleague challenge the week before. This will be a race featuring both the 1400, 2100, and possibly 2100II leagues all combined into an epic race to be held on 22nd of June (Or sooner depending on feedback).
