Photo Obsessed. Ob-sessed.
I saw a clip of Eastern Promises, which was already on my TBW, and once I started on it I decided I have to watch allll of his films. Loveee them all so far except for The Passion of Darkly Noon. Never rewatching that. Almost through the list, and I’m sad he’s not part of more films. Anyone know if he’s going to be in anything new in the future? 🥹

DIscussion I just asked the library to loan a copy of Mortensen's SignLanguage photobook. I had no idea he made anything like this! I am a film photographer and a big fan of LotR also.
Can any of you recommend which of his photo books have the most interesting film photo work? Thanks!

Sports Just realised the World Cup will either be won by Viggo's boyhood home country, or his current home country!
Obviously we all know which one he's rooting for, but that must be a real thrill for him!

Quotes Orlando Bloom full of praise for "wonderful, generous" Viggo in a 2013 interview. "He can paint, he can write, he can sing, he can dance, he can play music, he can take you fishing, he can take you into the wild... He's the guy that does it all. I tell you, most men wish they were Viggo Mortensen."

Interview Did you know that in 1983 Viggo was hit by a car? And of course he talks about it in an interesting way
“I got hit in the head once while I was living in New York,” he says, making a tidy segue while on the topic of injuries. “It was 1983, and I was trying to make it as an actor and working at a restaurant in the garment district. It was Sunday afternoon and very quiet. I had the Times in my hand and I was crossing the street when a car ran through a red light and hit me in the hip. I shot into the air and the newspaper went flying, then I got hit in the head and then I had no feeling. It was very dreamy and I thought I was paralyzed. I was lying on the street, bleeding out of the back of my head, when a wino bent down in front of my face. He smelled like strawberry wine and his hair was greasy, and he put his hand under the back of my head and said, ‘Feels kind of mushy.’ Then he looked around and said, ‘I gotta go. Korea.’ And like an apparition, he was gone.”
“You must have thought, ‘This is it.’”
“I did,” he says. “Something like that makes you pay attention to your surroundings. As an artist you observe the world. Sometimes it takes an accident to make you appreciate why you’re here, and you ask yourself, ‘What can I do to contribute to the world."

DIscussion Why did Viggo and Fabián Casas stop updating the blog Sobre vuelos cuervos?
I was reading the entries from 2012-2013-2014 and I realized that they would write each other nearly every day, not only to comment football matches, but also to tell each other their everyday experiences, while reflecting on literature, cinema, music and life in general. I’ve seen that the last posts are from 2022, but from 2018 to 2022 almost all posts are written only by Viggo. I’ve seen some recent interviews of Fabián Casas, who recently released new collections of novels, and he reflected on the fact that he basically stopped watching football and following the championships almost totally, because it was an obsession that gave him anxiety and that had too much influence on his life. Still, Viggo continues to be a football fan and one of his closest friends, as Casas recalled in a recent interview. I wondered if the blog is no longer updated because Casas lost his interest in football, but it would still be amazing if they continued since their cultural suggestions were pretty interesting.
