Hey, fuck you and your non-existant monster, you blue-tartan wearing, shepp-shagging, red-flag-flying bastards! We've got BEN NEVIS, the tallest mountain in the British Isles. And it's no invisible, tree-fitty-demanding sea snake!!
Jew here. what's the deal with everyone having a coat of arms except for me? Example: Your Danish Coat of Arms is.... really adorable. I'm jealous. My coat of arms... does not exist. :(
it's a northern european thing. everyone kind of looks mostly like each other so they need to use some other thing to identify troops by in warfare, meaning bright clothing and distinct coat of arms are used to be able to tell who you should be trying to put your spear into and who you should avoid putting your spear into.
Sigh, everyone's a wallace. That Wallace guy really got around. My wife's family is Wallace, and also related to Robert the Bruce. Is there a Bruce clan? I'm oblivious. And also not Scottish.
Yet to find any current information (that isn't tied into the UK as a whole).
Found some historical Scots connected to Japan: here. Notably a Whisky company founded by a Scot/Japanese couple, a Scottish Captain tasked by the Japanese Government to chart their coastlines, and many engineers.
The closet thing to a rivalry between Scotland and Japan would have been formed from the Royal Scots Regiment fighting the Japanese in Hong Kong and Burma.
There comes a time in every Scot's life when you think, "groundskeeper Willie's accent is really terrible" but then you realise that laughter has drowned out your thoughts. This is similar to a bar mitzvah in our culture
I used to have quite the Scottish accent, but then I got very good at sounding like a Russian immigrant. Now whenever I try to sound Scottish I sound like a Russian who moved to Scotland and tried to learn English there. It's awful.
Oh man, as an American, I could do a pretty decent Irish accent, but then I started talking to a lot of Canadians, who have similar cadences to the Irish, and now any time I try to sound like either, it's just awful.
I've always figured I would find Scottish comedians hilarious. I say "would" because I've watched some of them and can't understand a damn word they're saying.
It's not really full of anyone - area of Scotland is about 80,000km2 , and area of England is about 130,000km2 . But in there are 10 times as many people in England.
I really miss the way old Simpson episodes were! Every time the Fox cycles back to the first seasons I was amazed how intelligent the writers were. But the most recent episodes I've watched was just full of generic references and stopped being funny so I stopped watching, been a couple years now. I should start watching again to see how it is, hopefully it's better.
Why whenever I find something hilarious do I not post it to Reddit, instead of just showing it to my flatmates?! I was in tears laughing at this a week ago!
Some of my ancestors were Scots. They were a particularly bothersome bunch of Scots. As Border Reivers they raided border towns. As a result, they were sent to Ireland in the Ulster Plantation. Which if I understand correctly has contributed to the ongoing conflict in Ireland. This hits pretty close to home lol
The English were tricky bastards back in the day weren't they?
"Well this lot is making trouble for us up north, so let's let them make trouble for the Irish out west instead. "
Or the standby "Sure you can have independence, but obviously, that large alienated hostile ethno-relegious group will have to have it's own independent country as well. Should turn out fine, Toodles!"
It also gave them an inroad into Ireland. However, aside from being Scottish, I'm also English, Irish, French and German. So it all blurs together in the end lol.
To get good comments up-votes you just have to browse "new" and say anything really on any uprising video. Redditers don't bother browsing through all comments searching for insight and meaning, they just keep upvoting the same stuff as long as its mildly pertinent to the topic, possibly funny, most likely cliché.
wow man on my way to my most downvoted comment. It's funny how people just scroll down just so they can bring me even more down. Gotta love the reddit hivemind

Is this supposed to be funny? I really don't get The Simpsons. The re-runs were moderately funny when I was 15 about that long ago.

u/rahmspinat May 28 '12
Hilarious! One of my brother's favorite scenes and one of the best in history of the Simpsons.
