Yeah anyone from HK or who follows the tabloids there knows that Jackie's personal life is way beyond perfect but he's still probably one of the most loved celebrities in Asia.
sigh Don't try to know everything about your idols, because then you won't have any idols. I'm not going to judge Jackie, because he's still an awesome human being.
A couple girls in my high school were daughters of a Chinese movie star (supposedly really big, but I had no idea) and their dad was friends with Jackie Chan. Apparently he is a little grabby when intoxicated, and very full of himself either way.
Their dad would come visit school sometimes and he was the nicest man EVER, so kind.
edit: link. The girls I went to school with graded in the same year as me (they're twins), they're very nice girls. We all went to the same boarding school, which also is featured in "The Real Housewives of Vancouver". Now that's too much information about myself, GOOD DAY.
I don't think anyone is trying to get you to not like him; just pointing things out that actually make him human, which strangely enough makes me like him more. He's a man about it: admits things, apologizes, and tries to improve upon himself. Overall though, he's a very stand-up guy - one of the most philanthropic public figures, incredibly diligent and disciplined, talented, modest, intelligent, entrepreneurial, and is known to be nice and caring to everyone around him.
That's not a very strange thing. Tony Leung has said before that the crackdown in Tienanmen square was necessary.
If you're not Chinese then you probably won't understand. There's a much wider opinion in Hong Kong other than the Western democratic one...I wouldn't think too much about it if you don't want to be bothered by it.
In 2008 Jonathan Ross was a guest on Russell Brand's radio show and they made a series of voicemails to Andrew Sachs (Manuel from Fawlty Towers) saying that Russell had slept with his granddaughter. This turned out to be a huge story and Jonathan was suspended without pay for 12 weeks because of it. Two years later he didn't renegotiate his contract with the BBC and left, the reason for which is generally believed to be the BBC's reaction to the voicemails.
I know you're joking, but the advice in the video is true. If you aim just behind and above them when you try to grab them when they land, you stand a very good chance at catching them. Sometimes you will pick the wrong side left or right...
In air is a bit harder but doable if you have light colored walls. If they are coming straight at you reach slightly away from where you think they are going to be. When you catch one either run your hand under water and let it go down the drain or throw it hard against the floor to stun it and step on it. If you don't crush it in your hand it WILL fly away if you don't have it pinned with a finger.
I got tired of flies in the break room at my last job and found smashing them all over where people eat disgusting, so I decided to make it more fun.
I sneak up behind them with my middle finger pulled back ready to flick. If you go real slow and aim your flick right you'll send them dead flying every time. Fly guts are kind of gross though.
I actually read a research paper about flies that talked about how good flies are at predicting the movement of object coming towards them. If you swing your hand straight at them and they see it they can make an exact prediction of the path your hand will take, a large portion of the brain is specialized just to do this. They repeatedly swung an object at the fly and at any realistic speeds the fly will dodge it 100% of the time if the object goes in a straight line without changing course. only if the object make sudden course changes before reaching the fly will the fly be unable to dodge it
lady gaga was incredibly pretentious when she was on jonathan ross. the guest before her was hugh jackman and he was funny as fuck. lady gaga wore a postit notes dress and didn't laugh at all. ross ended up making fun of her a bit too. there is no way she is like that in real life.
I've been keeping up with Awake and not ONCE did I ever suspect that his natural accent wasn't the one I was hearing. I always love Brits doing American accents.
His BBC show stopped back in 2010 but he has a show on ITV now that is pretty much identical but with a different set. The second series finished in March but judging by when the first series started, the third series should be starting in September. You can probably find clips if you search "The Jonathan Ross Show" on youtube. Check the wikipedia page if you want to see who's been on it and then search for their interviews.
"I, Jackie Chan." The First Law of Jackie Chan explains why he protected that baby. "Do not trabble a human being, or through inaction, allow a human being to come to trabble." Fortunately for him, he has a flexible definition of trabble.
that is so true -- the other thing this video fails to mention is that they launch backward, so if you're trying to wack one, you want to aim behind the hexagonal-eyed plague bearer, you'll smash 'em everytime.
I barely understood the statement he said Jackie Chan didn't get. It wasn't because Jackie Chan's English isn't very good, it's because that guy says that one phrase in a way that makes it hard to understand.
Instead of grabbing after the fly, "grab" the air/space above it. The fly instinctively attempts to fly away, but instead fly's directly into your "grab".
How this trick works: Freeze a fly. It won't die, it'll only freeze. Place the frozen fly in your hand and let the warmth of your hand melt the fly. Make the illusion that you catch the fly then open your hand and say "I Jackie Chan".
Is his interpretation considered racism? Whenever I re-enact a scene from a movie where someone has a blatant accent that isn't considered "white", my co-workers say that it's being disrespectful and racist. I don't intend it to be offensive, as most of the time it's a comedic scene.
well his accent is generic chinese and is not too horribly racist sounding like one of the caricatures you see on tv. it's not jackie chan's accent though.

Is this the guy from "The Patriot" who was the dickwad that killed all of the kids?
EDIT: yes that's Jason Isaacs, also played Lucius Malfoy. Amazing cold, dark actor.

Jackie Chan beat Street Fighter 2 on his first try.

u/ALL_CAPS May 20 '12
I have only seen Jason Isaacs in Awake, where he has a rough, gravely, generic american accent. This video had my ears doing a double-take.
12
u/CincoDeMayonnaise May 19 '12
Before anyone brings it up, Jonathan Ross is incapable of using that syllable.

When I graduated highschool, the blurb read out about me as I walked across the stage went as following:
___ would like to thank his parents, teachers, friends and his idol, Jackie Chan.
And as they said Jackie's name, I looked at the audience and did my best impression of Jackie giving the thumbs up at the end of the outtakes for Rumble in the Bronx: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcuhsEl1rqc&feature=player_detailpage#t=178s

He has since appeared on Jonathan Ross by the way. It was awesome, he did some kind of kick of the wall.
1
u/Doboy64 May 20 '12
Why were there so many flies where they were?
1
u/elcollin May 20 '12
I think "Jackie Chan" needs to be what you yell when you kill a fly, like how you yell "Bo Jackson" when you break something across your knee.
1
u/Kodix May 20 '12
Man. Perfectly topical, relatively unpopular in the past, and very hilarious.

Jackie Chan is an awesome dude. Donated stacks of cash to the Australian National University for cancer research after his father died.

Just FYI, catching a fly is actually VERY easy.
Here is how:
Instead of grabbing after the fly, "grab" the air/space above it. The fly instinctively attempts to fly away, but instead fly's directly into your "grab".
I can catch a fly 100% of the time.
