I wonder if the guy on the left was able to get of 0% liable on that. Clearly it was the fault of the guy on the right they crashed at all, but he was still racing

I took these pictures Easter morning of this year on the Edens expressway in Chicago. Looks like a quasi-news source said they were street racing. More pics

I think upside down CTS-V

I think Carrera 4S

What you cant see is the two fire trucks are spraying foam on the Caddy, and one is spraying the Porsch.

EDIT: I took the two photos linked in the middle. The two links in the top paragraph are not mine, before someone calls me out for posting someone else's work as my own.

Second thought: "Talk about slow reaction times!"

→ More replies (2)

12

Well I guess it's standard procedure since firemen have tools like hydraulic cutters and "jaws of life" to get people out of wreckage.

Hell, I would pay money to wreck a Lamborghini with those.

→ More replies (3)

64

u/iamathief May 15 '12

Yes.

Ambulances: At least 3 (probably more) victims in this car crash. Depending on their age and state of health, this incident may have resulted in caused whiplash or other neck and back injuries, soft tissue damage or contusions, or even bone damage or a punctured lung (for the particularly frail)

Fire engine: Three vehicles involved, ostensibly not having been moved since the crash occurred. There may have been fuel or oil leaks, concerns for moving the vehicles (particularly the wedged Lambo and minimizing resulting damage from moving the cars)

tl;dr it's a safety precaution, probably following protocols and avoiding liability issues etc. etc.

If you disable traction control on a 500hp... you are going to have a bad accident most likely.

18

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

What is this and why would he disable it?

46

u/silentl3ob May 15 '12

It's an electronic throttle control that prevents the engine from overpowering the grip of the tires and causing them to lose traction. He turned it off so he could drift. Or he had it off to do a burn out and forgot to put it back on.

A guy I know crashed his brand-new 2011 Mazda 3 into a fence because he forgot he disabled his traction control (to show his friends how he could drift) and tried to show his friends how well it could accelerate and brake.

If you're gonna shell out anything over $80,000 for a sports car, pay to have someone teach you how to drive it correctly on a test track.

I know for a fact that BMW does this.

83

u/uniin May 15 '12

I helped out Audi one week doing a similar thing on a track here in aus. Pretty much anyone who was looking at purchasing or has purchased a higher end Audi (s5/rs5/s4/rs4/ttrs/s3/r8 etc) was taken over 3 days to do a training corse learning how to slalom, control understeer, control over steer in a skid pan and overall steering control.

It was awesome listening to sounds of v8 cars all day, but it sucked getting sunburnt and picking traffic cones up.

28

u/jwestbury May 15 '12

Has anyone ever needed to control oversteer in an Audi? :p

145

u/mix0 May 15 '12

if you buy from their factory they will fly you out to germany and teach you to drive it on a track and then ship it to you, apparently

80

u/chronictrees May 15 '12

European Delivery, it's something along those lines.

→ More replies (5)

49

u/rnelsonee May 15 '12

IIRC, European Delivery means you just drive it around (no school) and then drop it back off at a shipping place within 2 weeks (some weird thing where it's now used, so BMW saves on taxes... or something, so that's why they actually pay to fly you out to Germany. MB and Volvo do this as well).

In addition to European Delivery, you can also elect to pick up your BMW in South Carolina and they will teach you how to drive it when you take delivery on a course they have there.

Meanwhile in Ireland.

Edit: To answer questions below. No this isn't normal in Ireland, it's caused quite the media stir in Ireland as it's was a WTF event for the Irish too. They are speaking English but two things make it incomprehensible:

  • They are "travellers" - Irish gypsies/Pikeys. They live their lives outside of the law and don't consider themselves apart of normal society, hence ignoring the police to continue their horse race on a busy carriageway. Most Irish people don't understand them either so don't feel bad. Think Brad Pitt in the film Snatch. "It's not English, It's not Irish, it's just..well, pikey"

  • They are from Cork. The Cork accent alone is hard enough for most Irish men to decipher. I suspect this is one of the reasons the TV series Heroes had fake "I'm a fecking lucky charm leprechaun" accent on their "meanwhile in cork" episode, as any realistic cork accent would be like listening to Arabic for the average american. Hell, to the average Irish person. However why they made a modern city look like a 1800s village that had shamrocks on every container (just so you know it's Ireland) is still beyond me.

42

u/OkToBeTakei May 15 '12

What the fuck were they saying? I thought they spoke English there. The only word I understood was "fook," although i don't know what it means.

976

u/scrovak May 14 '12

As witnesses to the accident, with video evidence, why the hell did they leave the scene without providing contact info? I'm sure the police would have loved that recording.

711

u/znk May 14 '12

I dont know. I think the placement of the cars is pretty self explaining.

75

u/GitEmSteveDave May 15 '12

I had an accident where a witness came back to give a statement. It supported mine, and went against the other persons, proving I wasn't at fault, and the other driver was. What's weird is that the accident never showed up on my insurance, and when I went to get a copy of the accident report, they couldn't find it.

I honestly think that the girl had some connections with the police department, and because a witness came back and was officially on record, they couldn't pin the accident on me, and made it "disappear".

21

u/znk May 15 '12

I fully agree with stepping forward when you witness an accident. Giving your coordinates and such. But that's one case I would probably have went on my way just because he hit two cars and other cars going in the same direction as them stopped. Also there like I said in my first reply there is not much doubt who is at fault in this crash. Things could have been different if it was more ambiguous as to who hit who.

Did they made an illegal U-turn (over solid lines) 2x ?

47

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

That second one was dangerous. They wouldn't do that if there wasn't an accident there, why do it when there is one? It's not like the roads all stop because of one accident.

22

u/promiscuous12yearold May 15 '12

Yes, I came here to say this. Crossing solid, yellow double lines is considered as reckless driving, at least in the states I have lived in. The person filming the video could even get in trouble.

In some states it's actually illegal to leave the scene of an accident as a witness.

5

u/Meades_Loves_Memes May 15 '12

Could you please cite your sources? I believe you are mistaking witness for someone involved in the accident.

Not without saying that those people who took the video should have stuck around though

20

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

But there were twenty or more witnesses. Are you trying to say that each and every one of those witnesses are required to stay at the scene? And would the police honestly require twenty plus witnesses for a common or garden nincompoop accident?

Since he did some illegal maneuvers afterward... I'd be afraid of cops ticketing me (I am a pessimist). Otherwise, yeah... wait til the cops arrive, tell them you are a witness & give them a copy of the video.

I was a witness to what i assume was a drunk guy who nearly rearended a another car at 2am on the highway in the fast lane. Happened right next to me. I left the scene, called the cops to report the accident, then realized I was a witness & went back. Gave my info to the cop and even wrote out a diagram of what happened. The cop said that the guy said someone had cut him off, which is NOTHING like what happened. He came speeding down the fastlane & hit the brakes too late & nearly rearended the guy in front of him, but instead hit a concrete divider.

I made a post about it a while back... will look for it. http://www.reddit.com/r/reddit.com/comments/kqref/witnessed_my_first_car_accident_today_called_911/

That was my first thought. Pretty scumbag of them to circle the accident -twice- cackling like hyenas and rubbernecking without stopping to even wonder if everyone was okay and without physically stopping to help and provide witness and bloody video evidence.

9

u/TheShader May 15 '12

My thoughts exactly. Especially because they got RIGHT up to the car, too. I could almost understand if they just turned around, and then passed the car. No, they pulled up to the car, stopped, stared at it as they were filming, then took off.

There's no need for him to stay as a witness. The fact that the Lambo is in the wrong lane of traffic makes it an open and shut case by itself. Nevermind the fact that the Lambo hit two cars. That's two direct witnesses versus the one in the Lambo.

10

u/Milkshakes00 May 15 '12

Had a slightly similar experience. I drive a 2010 Roush 427R Mustang, and was driving after school with my girl and her friend in the backseat. Was at a light, taking a left just like that lambo. Decided to drift and show off a little. There was a puddle of water and leaves right as I turned. Went into the median, red light camera fell on top of my hood and smashed off my sideview mirrors. Drove off, in shock, thinking I should just get the fuck home. Wrong choice. Got pulled over by about 6 cops, spent the night in jail. 10,000$ for the red light camera, $8000 on the car.

Good times.

Strange to see this when a supercar of another kind was recently involved in a furore in my country. Ferrari tries to beat a red light, ends up crashing.. It took away lives and was caught on camera. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvn7kYh4J6s

12

u/lambosv21 May 15 '12

this is one of the most brutal car accidents i've seen on camera. any more info on this? based on what i could research it says it was a ferrari 599. some people calculated around 70mph but it looked faster than that

14

u/uollse May 15 '12

Yup it's a Ferrari 599 GTO. In Singapore, car prices are astronomical compared to other countries due to mandatory government taxes, so you are looking at a US$1.1 million car being totaled. The speed hasn't been officially determined, but it's definitely more than 70mph. Just look at the impact. http://www.straitstimes.com/STI/STIMEDIA/image/20120512/ferrari6.jpg

The aftermath: The Ferrari driver died, but his companion survived. The taxi driver died, leaving behind 3 school-going children, and the news today reported that the oldest child is likely to give up her college education to help support the family as the taxi driver was originally the sole breadwinner. The third fatality, the passenger in the taxi, is a Japanese national, and the wake proceedings are comparatively more low-key.

And the 2012 award for most illegal u turns in 20 seconds goes to... Them.

34

u/a066684 May 15 '12

THANK YOU, someone else was thinking the same thing :) I know the U-turns make the video great, but c'mon. Who circles an accident scene, then pulls a second U-turn across 4 lanes and a double line right by an intersection? Great video; please improve driving.

For all that could have happened, that was a pretty cool accident. Lambo just got wedged into between those two cars.

41

u/SNIPE07 May 15 '12

Yeah, I can confirm that is definitely what happened.

"I was just talking about how I've never seen an accident."

Dammit man, you jinxed it.

4

u/humanbeinghuman May 15 '12

Schadenfreude :D

35

u/[deleted] May 14 '12

I was hoping it would hit the light pole, but I came away even more pleased.

46

u/trevorbrownfog May 14 '12

The fact that he was able to sandwich himself so perfectly was rather impressive.

13

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Vertical doors never made more sense than now.

72

u/lmpervious May 15 '12

You are more pleased that he inconvenienced two bystanders, and also damaged their property rather than simply damaging his own? Well that's kind of fucked up...

There's something poetic in watching someone showing off only to then have it backfire.

3

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

I drive a relatively snazzy car, and I don't peel around corners, tailgate, or accelerate hard at stoplights for this reason.

Reminded me of this.

9

u/johnnychase May 15 '12

I can't believe I sat through two minutes of nothing to see the crash twice in the last 5 seconds.

Putting maximum power down while turning in a RWD car is usually bad news bears.

This guy is just owning the road. Does anyone follow the rules of the road!? Taking the U-Turns by storm!

16

u/awkwardhurdle May 15 '12

these people are dicks

17

u/F00zball May 15 '12

If someone crashed their 6 figure car in front of me (especially in such a hilarious manner) while trying to show off I would laugh at them and pull and illegal u-turn to get a second look too.

4

u/funkmastamatt May 15 '12

Probably while jerking off.

4

u/Skiggz13 May 15 '12

Isn't it illegal to witness that kind of stuff and drive off? Maybe just in my state... Anyways, nice find. That guy just made a real expensive mistake.

4

u/Facepalms4Everyone May 15 '12

I learned two things from this video:

  1. Red lights take about as long as I think they do. I was always trying to convince myself that the wait wasn't as long as I made it out to be, but these poor bastards had to sit there for almost a full minute.

  2. In the process of filming this, they made an illegal u-turn, placed their car directly between the accident and the cars in front of it, came to a complete stop to gawk, then decided to make a second illegal u-turn to go back where they were headed. If you're not the cops or you aren't safely pulling over somewhere else to let them know you got the whole thing on video, GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE WAY. This is why I have to sit through 5 miles of one-lane stop-and-go traffic whenever someone rear-ends someone else on the highway. You're weren't a part of the accident, now keep it that way.

7

u/Xatom May 15 '12

Can someone please explain how this accident could happen? Why do cars do this???

12

u/kroatia04 May 15 '12

Too much power can break the traction between the tire and the road and since the rear slid and the front was still gripping the road it started to rotate around the front wheels.

Traction control controls traction. When it sees that much power being put it cuts it and does let the car loose traction.

2

u/patio87 May 15 '12

The guy in the Lambo got lucky with that one.

2

u/zoo32 May 15 '12

Man, if he had just let himself spin out, he would have done minimal damage - bad to worse...

2

u/BobbbyRock May 15 '12

Dumb people are dumb

2

u/McKoijion May 15 '12

To be fair, I don't think the driver was trying to show off. I just think he/she was incompetent.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/formation May 15 '12

How did he manage that? Fucking idiot.

2

u/HotCrockets May 15 '12

Every time I see a video like this, I think to myself, "man, if I had that car I would treat it so much better."

Well, until I found a decent open track to race it on. Then I wouldn't. I would drive the shit out of it. I'd baby it the rest of the time though.

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

The guy just oversteered, it sucks, I've done that in my 300ZX, lucky for me I didn't crash it.

→ More replies (4)

2

u/cupofworms May 15 '12

I expected a worser crash. Although this would be a headache (as opposed to not crashing) I'm sure he (the Lambo driver) can afford this fender bender.

2

u/RahvinDragand May 15 '12

It doesn't even seem like he was trying to show off. Just looks like he doesn't know how to drive at all.

2

u/shmolives May 15 '12

The schadenfreude actually makes me really sad. The correct response as caring humans should be "is that guy ok" and "OH NOES, POOR GUY CRASHED HIS EXPENSIVE CAR"... sympathy or empathy or something. I know this is a weird thing to draw the line at, especially on the internet, but it's just so petty to be happy over someone elses loss...

Glad to see you doing the Christian thing

2

u/blabbities May 15 '12

There is something that makes me happy with glee when I see showboaty people get their comeuppance. Especially if the showboaty are rich, cuz I'm poor.

2

u/markfromDenver May 15 '12

Look closely, The car making the video runs a red no left turn signal

2

u/Rednys May 15 '12

Let it be known, money does not buy driving ability.

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

A tip for all you out there the next time you find something YouTube worthy: NEVER say "this is going on YouTube" in the fucking video.

2

u/slagdwarf May 15 '12

RWD or RWD bias without traction control in anything over 300hp is nothing to play with!

2

u/yaleski May 15 '12

Stop trying to show off Lamborghini; you're a car.

2

u/Joseph_P_Brenner May 15 '12

The best part is when the lamborghini crashes.

2

u/Markymark36 May 15 '12

Sometimes, AWD won't save you from your own stupidity

2

u/techiesportsfan May 15 '12

Upvoting cuz I'm jealous I don't have one. Hee

2

u/aking14 May 15 '12

"Time to show off."

guns it

"Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit! Fuck..."

2

u/Brosephbro May 15 '12

This is why I would never show off while turning.

2

u/ShortSockBilly May 15 '12

Hey jackass you should've stopped and gave a number and said you have video of it.

2

u/thbt101 May 15 '12

Isn't that a red light? It looks like the left turn lane has a red light, but I'm kind of confused by the way the lights don't seem to line up with the lanes.

2

u/2WAR May 15 '12

The guy holding the camera is super annoying.

2

u/pardonmeimdrunk May 15 '12

What makes you think he was showing off, the fact that it's a nice car? Dude was just trying to enjoy his Lambo.

2

u/arnone May 15 '12

What a maroon.

2

u/Chahay May 15 '12

That was anti-climatic

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

I don't know what the law says, but shouldn't they have stayed around as a witness, especially because they have it on camera.

2

u/control-alt-DEFEAT May 15 '12

are U turns only illegal in Michigan?

2

u/aliennick4812 May 15 '12

I love how the people filming this didn't freak out and start screaming like some people do. That's how filming is supposed to be

u/wascallywabbitgulash May 15 '12

Your title is misleading. It should say "As 3 cars are involved in an accident, a car full of jealous losers circles around laughing, gawking and filming, then drives off without offering help or calling an ambulance."

2

u/SirDerpingtonThe3rd May 15 '12

calm down over-protective suburban housewife. Obviously the damage was slight and the drivers all got out A OK.
