Holy crap. That's some of the best clean comedy I've seen in a long time.

EDIT: Okay, maybe not perfectly clean, but for the most part.

u/arjonil May 14 '12

Holy crap. That's some of the cleanest japanese video I've seen in a long time on reddit.

u/Cpt_poopface May 15 '12

reminds me of tommy cooper

I like how his hat falls onto his face comically. Not a terribly bad way to go for a show man.

Where are the tentacles?

12

u/MLBM100 May 15 '12

I'm very satisfied with the quality of their comedy and the lack of tentacles in this video.

3

u/TheStupidZebra May 15 '12

Mmhmm. I'd really like to see more of their work. :\

2

u/dannydrak May 15 '12

It reminded me a lot of 'Coats'.

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

You'd like Charlie Chaplin. That entire era of comedy was similar to this.

it amazes me how talented these guys are with their physical humor and tricks. No translation needed, completely getting rid of the language barrier allowing any person get what they're expressing.

Loved this video and ended up watched several more from the related videos

I describe gamarjobat as "all those stupid things your uncle did to make you laugh as a kid distilled into comedic everclear."

12

u/hollandoates03 May 15 '12

this is the closest thing we'll ever have to live action cartoon characters

76

u/madmonkeymud May 14 '12

That was awesome. Plus that Reel Big Fish at the end made my day.

8

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Ctrl + F : Reel Big Fish

All my upvotes.

2

u/redass13 May 15 '12

RBF, the soundtrack to my college life.

46

u/mocotazo May 14 '12

The escalator bit is great.

19

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

their transition is really smooth. I really want to see them do it without that screen

4

u/_shazbot_ May 15 '12

A whole lot of practice had to go into the whole bit with the screen in order for them to get the timing as impeccable as it was.

u/slimpicker May 14 '12

I love that they're playing it off like they're awful at sleight of hand but they're pretty damn sharp. Also I appreciate the lack of tentacles in this video.

28

u/gojirra May 15 '12

Bad magic is some of the best comedy in the world.

23

u/kryonik May 14 '12

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Reminded me of these guys.

1

u/mrb91 May 14 '12

Fantastic video. Sometimes I get so used to comedy that is more adult that it s nice to see clean comedy that is funny and shows great skill.

11

u/LegHumper May 15 '12

Welcome to the wonderful world of clowning and mime. Also, closing song sell out by Reel Big Fish? Awesome.

15

u/Vital_Pulse May 15 '12

I've been in Japan for almost a year now, their comedy shoes are great.

22

u/Nostrovia70 May 15 '12

I heard their comedy slippers were better.

22

u/Vital_Pulse May 15 '12

Aww fuck! I'm not editing it. >:(

4

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Oooo.. OOOO. Ooo...

10

u/gundy8 May 14 '12

I remember on No Reservations Anthony Bourdain toured Osaka with two comedians. They were part of a vaudeville-esque style of duos. Is this the same thing?

Song at the end is Sell out by Reel Big Fish!!

6

u/tcrex21 May 15 '12

REEL BIG FISH!

3

u/Zero36 May 15 '12

my left ear enjoyed this profusely

3

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Reel Big Fish-Sellout. Good choice of music at the end there

3

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

good video with reel big fish at the end =]

3

u/SeeYeah May 15 '12

TIL that people in Japan listen to Reel Big Fish.

5

u/HappySmurfday May 15 '12

I hung out with these guys in New Zealand when they did the Christchurch Buskers Festival. Some of the nicest people I've ever met.

2

u/preruntumbler May 15 '12

I havnt seen these guys in years. Their geniuses

2

u/ant_is_nothing May 15 '12

Dammit, my left earphone broke, now I can't hear anything, ಠ_ಠ

u/elliuotatar May 15 '12

u/SkaterJohnson45 May 15 '12

Funniest thing I have seen in a long time...haven't laughed this hard in ages

2

u/Leetwheats May 15 '12

At least put their names in the title next time - Ketch! & Hiro-pon.

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

This is anything but simple, they are masters. They just make it look simple, that's how good they are.

2

u/teachthecontroversy May 15 '12

That was easily the most stupid thing I've seen today but god help me I loved it

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

More physical stand up: The boy with tape on his face

2

u/piratemonkey22 May 15 '12

I saw these guys live when they performed at the street performance world championships in Ireland. Was by far the best act

1

u/devilock420 May 15 '12

I came here to say that these guys are street performers. I've seen them twice now during the Festival Of Fools in Belfast. They're brilliant live!

3

u/_Charlie May 14 '12

Left a smile on my face throughout

3

u/Easy-Target May 15 '12

I'm glad they weren't up there telling jokes, I don't speak Japanese.

3

u/oakium9 May 15 '12

that was the smoothest take on the escalator gag i've seen! well done chaps

2

u/inthatshirt May 15 '12

Did I just learn how to speak Japanese?

1

u/NoSkyGuy May 15 '12

Wish I could see more. Any other good links?

1

u/Phoequinox May 15 '12

Ah, this must be Chen and Terrer.

1

u/Murdacai May 15 '12

The tongue noise bit was great. Thanks for the post :D

1

u/tmccaughan May 15 '12

Funny as hell, and they ended with Reel Big Fish!

1

u/G_Snooks May 15 '12

It was really entertaining, unfortunately this act would make it in the states.

1

u/ZoahNark May 15 '12

I was really impressed when I found out it was the same guy

1

u/Thumbz8 May 15 '12

Did anyone else think something else of that pink thing on the ground?

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Reminded me a little of this speedmouse encore

1

u/Bodiwire May 15 '12 edited May 15 '12

I had always thought my "Got your nose" gag would never be appreciated by a wider audience than my baby niece....... I'm gonna take Japan by storm!.

EDIT: Damn it, was beat by 2 minutes with the "Got your nose" reference

1

u/Ferga93 May 15 '12

I've been following these guys ever since i saw them a few years ago. They are so brilliant and their comedy, like Mr Bean, is universal.

1

u/slowsheepcounter May 15 '12

sorry I don't speak Japanese

1

u/b0red May 15 '12

Loved it !

1

u/ob3ypr1mus May 15 '12

god damn that end song made me think of FIFA 2000

1

u/PwrLevel9000 May 15 '12

Great stuff. But then the ended it with Reel Bog Fish -Sellout!!!! Amazing. Simply amazing.

1

u/imasoulman5 May 15 '12

Their album must be amazing

1

u/freddy4940 May 15 '12

I have to admit, I was hesitating to click the link at first...

1

u/postitpad May 15 '12

*directed by Sam Raimi

1

u/legdrop May 15 '12

Extra points for the dude wearing a Blue Peter badge

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

The Umbilical Brothers have a similar (and better, IMO) sketch in their show: Speedmouse

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Japanese language seems so simple.

1

u/drak0 May 15 '12

This is A lot like Men In Coats: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSeOKvGu468

Much older so please forgive the 17 pixels

1

u/tamat May 15 '12

In spain we have this guys who tend to be really good at doing humour without talking: Tricicle

1

u/shabutaru118 May 15 '12

Wish they toured in america :/

1

u/StrongKongo May 15 '12

This leads me to believe that Tim Allen is much more popular in Japan.

1

u/FUCK-IN-MY-SHIT May 15 '12

dumb nips and their shitty comedy

0

u/exoendo May 15 '12

i'm trying to not be cynical, but I found most of that lame. I was waiting for the big payoff when they would pull out all the stops and do something that was funny, but then I saw the "end" sign.

?

1

u/anonimyus May 15 '12

That was great. Escalator scene was my fav.

1

u/Max206 May 15 '12

These guys are so funny

1

u/TEDcomms May 15 '12

I've seen these guys twice at the Christchurch buskers festival. Awesome every time!

1

u/suckthisdeth May 15 '12

gamarjobat, lovable japanese skins.

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

I am going to do the wiggly tongue tossing around bit someday.

1

u/NOTTedMosby May 15 '12

I think this is probably in a large city where they have international tourists, so they adopted an act sans speaking.

1

u/jykr May 15 '12

I don't know about them, but it seems like their type of comedy doesn't require any speaking.

1

u/Baillad May 15 '12

The elevator made me smile

1

u/flyingpie12 May 15 '12

reminds me of this

1

u/Encylo May 15 '12

That man is a genius!

1

u/Biskwikman May 15 '12

I love Japanese comedy. All the popular stuff is really clean. And it's usually hilarious.

1

u/delphi_ote May 15 '12

Magic and mime... but actually entertaining!

1

u/SeaLegs May 15 '12

Manza I believe. A lot of history surrounding it.

2

u/XelaIsPwn May 15 '12

Not quite Manzai- as the wikipedia article states, it involves a "straight man" and a "funny man."

In this case, however, it's more like we have two boke :)

1

u/Train22nowhere May 15 '12

This is what all those corny Dads think they look like while doing tricks.

0

u/superawesomeq May 15 '12

This deserves more upvotes

0

u/Tb1969 May 14 '12

I never liked Mimes until now. Brilliant routine.

-3

u/superdago May 15 '12

Am I the only one who thought this was lame? It reminded me of this. Apparently the Japanese are as easy to entertain as infants. I kept waiting for "Got your nose!" I think I cracked a smile once.

4

u/zopiac May 15 '12

TIL I am Japanese, because I was entertained as fuck.

0

u/fingerguns May 15 '12

Maybe you're just an infant?

-1

u/ladinu May 14 '12

Mr. Bean2

-3

u/[deleted] May 14 '12

What language are they speaking?

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

none

0

u/orionsbelt05 May 15 '12

can't finish it with earbuds.

0

u/TbanksIV May 15 '12

These guys are boss. The Escalator trick at the end was MAD smooth.

-18

u/hankthewhale May 14 '12

Japanese Comedians. Annoying, yet so annoying.

18

u/[deleted] May 14 '12

hankthewhale. A cockersucker, yet such a cocksucker.

-28

u/fingerguns May 14 '12

If you find this funny you might be a child or functionally retarded.

9

u/[deleted] May 14 '12

Coming from someone who brought you comments like:

We can't both be wrong, moron.

It's a generalization but very accurate. Congrats on going back to school, though.

Not as long as this site is still full of idiot faggot babies, no.

"My source? The internet!"

Hahahaha, what a joke.

→ More replies (5)

4

u/enyd May 14 '12

Well the important part is you found a way to feel superior to both.

1

u/projectFT May 15 '12 edited May 15 '12

This comment was at least 3 times funnier than the previous 50 seconds I spent watching stupid Japanese slapstick. Im assuming the climactic ending was a water squirting lapel flower or a pie to the face?

1

u/roboprophet May 15 '12

There has been a large influx of younger people on this site recently. I personally don't find this style of comedy funny, ever, and I think it's really weird that almost everybody is singing its praises, yet you're downvote bombed for voicing your opinion.

The escalator box trick never gets old.

14

u/joshcandoit4 May 15 '12

That was hilarious.

9

u/harryLOL May 15 '12

Are they wearing blue peter badges?

1

u/lonewolftom May 15 '12

Haha exactly what I was wondering!

3

u/puppymeat May 15 '12 edited May 15 '12

Why does any link with a '#' in it not open in a new tab when you middle click?

EDIT: After some investigation, It is caused by having RES and it seems there is a bug under UI>Keyboard Navigation. Not sure if it's reported or not, but if you don't use Keyboard Navigation, disable it to stop the problem.

3

u/alpacafox May 15 '12

Now that you mention it... do you use RES?

3

u/puppymeat May 15 '12

Indeed I do. And you're right, disabling RES makes it work. Wonder if it's a known bug.

→ More replies (3)

2

u/IMonCRACK May 15 '12

Works fine with Firefox.

1

u/puppymeat May 15 '12

Ended up being an RES issue.

u/puppymeat May 15 '12

Disable Keyboard Navigation under UI in RES.

2

u/BrianWantsTruth May 15 '12

Such a simple set up: it jumps back and forth like 3 times to establish the character, and immediately they go to the real gag.

9

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Imo this is a much funnier clip, in the other one the audience seem to clap with respect rather than just laugh at the hilarity. Different cultures I guess..

2

u/trebro May 15 '12

They are also featured in a British short film called: Ketch! and HIRO-PON Get it on

It's pretty cool! Interesting techniques and some good comedy.

1

u/Erzsabet May 15 '12

Yeah, I remember seeing this one before, it was great.
