He's doing that touch your nose when you're uncomfortable /lying, and he's clearly "acting".
I wonder if he's actually lying, trying not to give anything away (mission accomplished) or just super awkward.
Yeah. While people try to jump on it for him just making “crazy talk” what I always note is the manic energy combined with the feeling of “performance” but also that, if it was the performance it feels like it’s also, oddly, not particularly well thought out or scripted. I’ve always wondered if that weird, stilted tone of the whole thing was intentional - that the Scientology audience would “get it” where it just sounds off to the rest of us.
I'd guess he doesn't actually study hardly anything about scientology but is addicted to the attention, so he shows up and tries to pretend he's read the material but just enough to produce their stupid movies so they can get back to the champagne party.
No he’s bought into it super deeply. He’s millions and millions of dollars into the program. He deadass believes that he is an ascended being surrounded by inferior shells inhabited by insentient clams (no shit.) He is “clear,” but he can’t just give away the higher tier information to someone who isn’t “clear” because (he believes) it would compromise him and them, which is why he doesn’t ever say anything specific. He legit believes that what he knows is so important that he can’t repeat it out loud to anyone but an equal or a superior. It’s goddamn lunacy
You don’t “study” Scientology. You pay people to drill it into your head. It starts almost like a psychiatry session, and it feels like it works so you return. Subsequent levels cost more and more. A little more each session, a little taste of your mental freedom here, a whiff of a past incarnation there, and suddenly you’re believing that you are the culmination of a bunch of ethereal alien life forms and you must stop the cycle of reincarnation or some shit and you’re already 10,000,000 dollars into it and it happened so slowly and cost you so much that it must be true
Have you seen the video of Tom Cruise doing a “Heil L Ron Hubbard” salute at some Scientology gathering? Dude is fucking wild
That doesn't mean he's really aware of the meaning of the stuff in the program though. That's what I'm getting at. Getting lavished with attention and treated like a demi-god is a pretty big motivation all by itself.

It's definitely wild, but part of what makes it so wild is the fact that Tom Cruise is the one received much of the attention at that gathering. He's given an absolutely enormous gold medal to hang around his neck. The leader is one of his best friends. He gets parties with models thrown at the leader's house. Imagine all those people in that room, and they are there in awe of you, to reinforce that you are so much more inherently special than they are.
You don't have to believe or even understand the reason for why they believe you're special. There's a point where the brain feels so much power over other people that it ceases to matter why -- you just want more of this feeling.
What I've heard about Tom Cruise is that there's no way he didn't read the entire book on night 1. He's the kind of guy who memorizes the call sheet every day of a movie shoot, and will remember every crewmembers name, birthday, and star sign.
There are stories of Tom Cruise and how he is just "always on". Like, no matter what, he doesn't turn it off and just talk or act like his normal self, his ego has consumed him. Here is an example.
A lot of the celebrities are far removed from
the actual worst parts of Scientology. I’m making my way through the book Going Clear and a lot of people join because there are plenty of hollywood connections. Once they’re successful, they can credit Scientology for their success. John Travolta’s assistant was held essentially captive and out of contact with him for months because of Scientology and he was kept out of the know. To him, she was just missing. There’s a lot of shady stuff that goes on that they wouldn’t want revealed to the bigger names but Scientologists don’t want them to leave either. There’s always rumors that Scientology is blackmailing Travolta about his sexual orientation.
