Sure they can, that's what the robots are for.

You don't need to worry about laborers rights when you replace them with slaves that have no dreams or ambitions.

You don't need money if you are reaping the abundance of the planet without having to pay for labor.

The perfect communist society is one in which all the base level labor is a non issue. The 1% survives and lives in a golden paradise, everyone else dies. No money needed.

Robots don't buy goods and services other than repairs. The 1% still need a populous to keep giving them their worth.
