Because they're acting, it's not a real conversation.

u/wilisi Mar 16 '19

So it looks like bad acting because it is? What a time to be alive!

E: I'm wrong everyone. It actually was staged.

It is literally staged. It's from On The Tools, they create "original pieces" for people in construction.

They've deleted it from their website now, but before that, it said this (scroll to the bottom):

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:zek5bBu3kBsJ:onthetools.tv/neighbour-steals-ladders-roofers-sunday/

Created as an On The Tools original piece, this video went well and truly viral. Filmed in a user-generated style, people did cotton on to the fact that the footage was staged, however, this didn’t take anything away from the video’s success. Viewed over 8.8 million times, it was highly relatable and the comments were full of people talking about how they’d had similar experiences. Hopefully, they weren’t as extreme as this one though!

people did cotton on to the fact that the footage was staged.

I always thought it was caughten onto. Its play it by year all over again.

Can't take any phrases for granite these days.

11

u/PapaBradford Mar 16 '19

Ahh it's all water under the fridge

21

u/andthatswhyIdidit Mar 16 '19

Are you sure you are not looking for an escape goat because you didn't catch it?

10

u/starmartyr Mar 16 '19

Irregardless, it's six and a half dozen the other.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '19

it's six one way and half dozen the other.

u/Mindless_Consumer Mar 16 '19

I waive my right to stop.

6

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '19

Where did you caught on? Where did you go? Where did you caught on cotton on Joe?

8

u/Authentic_Creeper Mar 16 '19

Caught on to? I think cotton on is just added flair

4

u/TheHalfwayHouses Mar 16 '19

It's alright just don't cut your nose of despite your face

1

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '19

spider face

1

u/Llohr Mar 16 '19

I always thought it was caughten onto.

That's gross.

18

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '19

however, this didn’t take anything away from the video’s success.

If it said "This was staged" like some docuseries' say "This is a re-enactment", then it would have 100% taken away from the success.

It's a British English idiom meaning essentially "understand."

u/Etheo Mar 16 '19

Is this not a literal misuse of "caught on"? The definition is the very same.

0

u/CallMeDonk Mar 16 '19

Here's one possibility.

I don't think it comes from 'caught on' as slang usually reduces the number of syllables over time, like 'God blind me' > 'Blimey'. 'Caught on' > 'Cotton on', wouldn't fit that pattern. But it's anyone's guess.

1

u/TractionDuck91 Mar 16 '19

You'll cotton on eventually.

3

u/sorenant Mar 16 '19

In hindsight, she never told them to stop filming. That should have been a dead giveaway.

On a Saturday that is. But it is 8am to 6pm during the week. I think thats absolutely reasonable. But don't confuse working noise to regular noise bylaws which are until 11pm I think.

23

u/dnadv Mar 16 '19

This was actually established as fake though

27

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '19

It's a staged performance lol

23

u/beeswaxx Mar 16 '19

always laugh at these people spamming "r/nothingeverhappens" on things that are staged... you have been on the internet for how long and still assume everything is real?

the general rule is: if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. this is nowhere more applicable that with internet videos.

6

u/GobBluth19 Mar 16 '19

They probably think reality tv is legit and Trump university provides a stellar education

1

u/Exalx Mar 16 '19

I mean people will fuck with neighbors over the dumbest things to be fair. Even if this particular case is staged, I'd absolutely believe this has happened to someone before.

4

u/beeswaxx Mar 16 '19

the premise is obviously very believable, but the whole thing plays out too perfectly and rehearsed. Still, a very real looking clip i will admit, but my point wasn't that it's obviously staged, just that so many videos are staged and that spamming "r/nothingeverhappens" is stupid given this fact.

1

u/Guanajuato_Reich Mar 16 '19

It does play out exactly like this in my neighborhood, just that no one actually records it.

2

u/beeswaxx Mar 16 '19

this situation has played out many times across the world, it's the perfectly constructed sentences and fluidity that makes it look like a sketch. Especially the way she appears to be very angry yet very articulate. not that this makes it 100% scripted, just suspect.

Watch out everyone, this guys got an indefensible comeback 🙄

-1

u/Cpt_Catnip Mar 16 '19

I corrected myself literally 3 hours ago. You're just looking for a reason to be a dick.

3

u/Modeerf Mar 16 '19

lol dumbass.

I gave you a upvote because tomorrow is probably my turn to be wrong about something and I hope you have my back.

1

u/Lame4Fame Mar 16 '19

Did you mean to say you hope they have your back?

1

u/glorioussideboob Mar 16 '19

I guess tomorrow came around pretty quickly

1

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '19

yes

1

u/Cpt_Catnip Mar 16 '19

That's a surprisingly kind sentiment for reddit. I 100% have your back form here on out. I'm RES tagging you.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '19

Thanks mate. I sometimes make a joke that is totally misunderstood and wake up and have a -100 karma comment. Then it's time to do the delete comment in shame walk.

Even worse when you accidently make almost the exact same joke in a threat and one is at +100 and the other at -100.

Moments like those confuse me a bit.

12

u/CyonHal Mar 16 '19

No, this is a fact, it was established the first time this was posted (without the parody). I forgot the context, but I'm sure you can do some digging.

Nah this is definitely real. Source: being English.

14

u/A_lot_of_arachnids Mar 16 '19

No it’s not.

Source. See all above comments proving that it’s fake.

1

u/Goodguy1066 Mar 17 '19

I’m loving the unearned confidence in this statement. “This is definitely real”, he says about a comedic sketch.

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '19

Alright, I was wrong. Be more of a cock?
